OUTSTANDING. Absolutely a great place. Fresh, made from scratch food exploding with flavor. This is a must place to stop. Full bar, a dozen beers on tap with great menu. This is not bar food. We had: Turkish Cigar Rolls, Peruvian Chicken Tacos, Buffalo Chicken Sliders. Fudged Brownie, with mint. Turkish Cigar Rolls.............nothing to do with Cigars. Light & crisp finely chopped mixed herbs surrounded in crunch. Peruvian Chicken Tacos.......taco like you've never had before. This was the flavor explosion. This is were the made-from-scratch kicks in. A must have. Buffalo Chicken Sliders...........nicely balance with homemade buffalo sauce, well placed pickel and a fresh bun. We were stuffed, but then we needed the Brownie. Wonderful. Then we added a bit with the mint leaf............say good night, the perfect night was over. Friendly, fun service in a great environment. Light background music so you can have a conversation. BUT............there is a DJ booth to fire it up for a great Friday / Saturday night. The Box is a NEW Upscale Sports Lounge that just opened in Downtown IC. We are fusing Iowa City Sports Viewing with Energetic Nightlife to keep the party going after the game. In addition Welcome Box Coffee Club a perfect place to study, work from home and Grab a Coffee and Light Bites!

History

Established in 2024.

Storm Hospitality, established in 2021, expanded from a COVID-19 meal delivery business Green Organic by two NYC hospitality professionals. They collaborated with an LA producer on a multivenue project, Depot House, in Fairfield, IA. In Feb 2024, The Group waved its magic wand over Mosley's in Iowa City and voilà! THE BOX was born - a Sports Lounge sprinkled with Nightlife magic. Picture a lively outdoor patio, a long intimate bar, VIP booth hotspots, fancy bar bites, themed cocktails & a bottle service experience. They also offer large scale catering, bottomless brunch, exclusive events, and even swanky private parties!

Meet the Business Owner: Whitney K.

Whitney Kemac is a dancer/choreographer born and raised in New York City, who fell in love with Culinary Arts, Food, Beverage and Hospitality. She has been working for NYC and LA’s top Restaurants, Hotels and Nightclubs for 17 years, with a focus on Nightlife and Farm-to-Table Cuisine. She moved to Iowa from New York with her family Just before Covid 19. Since then she has co-founded Aerial Fitness Underground - a fun fitness studio in Fairfield. She also founded Green Organic, a Vegetarian Meal Delivery Service and became a Partner at Depot House, Restaurant & Nightclub in Fairfield, Ia. She is honored to share her passion for food, beverage and hospitality as well as dance and fitness with the Iowa City Community- and hopes to ignite in others a fresh look at hospitality, Events and Nightlife.

Many restaurants apparently try to drive people out with hellish loud music and clangy acoustics, but it was really nice to eat here. The service was good too!

From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect--the atmosphere, the food, the service, and especially the personal touch from the owners. We hosted my daughter's 21st birthday celebration here, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Whitney and her husband (I think his name is Semir--sorry if I got it wrong!) were beyond accommodating. They met with us beforehand, were easy to work with, and made sure every detail was just right. The prices were fair, and the portions were so generous--it felt like we got way more food than we ordered. And let me tell you: the food was INCREDIBLE. Our guests couldn't stop raving about it! We were given full freedom to decorate the patio as we liked, even though there was already a beautiful flower wall and a neon "Happy Birthday" sign. My daughter wanted a balloon bouquet and banner, and they welcomed it with open arms and helped with materials we forgot to hang the sign. The bartenders were amazing--so friendly, helpful, and on point all night. We truly felt like royalty. I kept introducing Whitney and her husband to everyone--they're just that cool and genuine. The VIBE of The BOX is unmatched. I can't wait to come back for lunch or dinner. If you're thinking about going--GO. NOW. You won't regret it. read more

The Box is an exceptional establishment with food that belongs in a five-star restaurant. Highly recommend the Turkish pizza, whenever it's available--it's outstanding. The mixed drinks are on-point and prepared with care and precision, and the draft beer lines are as clean as can be. The service is top-notch, with Server and Whitney being exceptionally hospitable.
