Bad weather forced me to find a hotel in Abilene a few days ago the hotel, DoubleTree by Hilton, charged me about $400 a night, even though the hotel was without power. The room was like a sauna later I asked for if there was reduction for this lack of power. The answer was no. read more

My first time in Abilene and I couldn't wait to check out the newest and nicest hotel in town I had been hearing so much about. The staff is absolutely the best and everything is so clean and new. My room was a corner king suite. Enormous room. It's like I had my own little apartment. If you love the gym and pool this room is for you. Room 236 is directly across from the gym door. Gym is nicely equipped and they have plenty of water and fresh fruit. Also a few steps more and the pool is right there. My only complaint is I had to keep my shades closed 24/7. You can see directly out to the pool and others in turn can see you. So unless you want everyone to see your every move then close the blinds ha other than that I appreciated the senor lights into the restroom and the thermostat is a bit interesting. I heard it is motion sensored and goes based off your body heat. If you like it cold maybe drop it down a few degrees than you are usually used to. Lovely property and great bar/patio too! read more

Beautiful property. Such a fantastic addition to Abilene. Right across the street from the convention center, so the perfect place for conferences. The staff is friendly and efficient. Restaurant is good and cocktails are great. Housekeeping staff is the best. I always tip but my room attendant this time made it a blast! Valet attendants were above and beyond, one young lady walked me across the street with an umbrella on a rainy morning, so appreciated! I really wish they had a coffee shop on site but other than that, above average all the way around. read more

This is a fairly new hotel in downtown Abilene. Upon checking in, I was asked if I was sure I had a reservation there after showing the lady at the front desk my reservation. Parking is also not complimentary as the app states, it is $20/night. The worker at the front desk was nice enough to offer me free parking across the street from the hotel however, that is city parking and displays signs that it is not hotel parking and you'd be towed. So no, I didn't take advantage of the "free" parking that was offered to me. A city view room does not provide the best "city" view and the motion sensored air conditioner is different than any hotel I've been to. The rooms have a coffee maker and refrigerator but there isn't a microwave in the room. You're kind of forced to eat at the restaurant/bar in the hotel considering you won't be able to warm any leftover food you might have. The hotel does have a restaurant and bar inside which both were great. The bar menu is reasonably priced and the bartender makes amazing drinks. The first night I ordered a Turkey Avocado BLT Club and I never thought I'd complain about too much food. They put so much turkey on the sandwich that you can't actually enjoy the sandwich because everything is falling off. The seasoned fries that come with it were amazing though. The service in the restaurant is good as well. There's not a long wait and the waitress actually remembered my order. I had breakfast at the restaurant twice. The hotel itself is beautiful but there are some things that could be fixed. read more

We often stay in Abilene for a night during road trips across the great state of Texas to reminisce on the ACU days and grab a meal at Perini's! When I saw this nice new DoubleTree had been built, I had to check it out! It is by far the nicest hotel you can stay in in Abilene and will likely be our 'home' in Abilene next time we need a room for the night again. We absolutely loved our 1 night stays here on both the "to" and "from" legs of our trip! Big shout out to Layton at the front desk who was incredibly helpful. not only letting us check a tiny bit early, but finding the perfect room for my friend who was on crutches. He literally got the blueprints out to make sure she would get the room closest to the elevator and wouldn't have to walk down the long halls in her crutches. The room was very comfortable and had all the standard amenities one would expect from a Hilton brand, including an empty mini fridge. The comforter actually had a little bit of thickness and weight to it which was lovely, I usually find hotel comforters to be too thin and light. We enjoyed a few cocktails at the lobby bar downstairs which we found to be a pleasant environment. I even saw the bartenders going around to fluff the pillows on the couches after other guests left, which I thought was a nice attention to detail. There is a parking lot in front of the hotel where you can park for free. The valet takes up several lanes in this same parking lot. On both our stays the hotel staff made it sound like we would be screwed coming home after dinner if we tried to self-park in the empty lot, but we never had an issue finding a spot. I'm not a fan of valet (marketed as a convenience, but it is inconvenient) and will always self-park if its an option, even if I have to pay. The rooftop pool was small, but very nice for a hotel pool. Unfortunately, I was here in winter, so I didn't dive in, but the space was open. I regret not even dipping my hand in the water to see if it was heated at all or not. This is also a great place to catch an Abilene sunset, see my video! I saw many reviewers complain about noise, but you are literally sharing a building with many other guests. Yes I occasionally heard a door slam, or people walking down the hall, but it bothered me zero. I try to be conscious of not letting the door slam in hotels, but obviously many don't think about it. Finally, we loved the location and walking around downtown. The hotel is a stone's throw from the paramount theater and I walked to several coffee shops. The best part - no homeless people on the streets! read more

This hotel is in a very convenient spot of Abilene. I walked down to a coffee shop every morning. It's relatively new and very clean especially in the lobby. It's kid friendly with a decent pool, good for kids. There is only one set of elevators and they are very slow, and one of the elevators in the set was broken. I used the stairs to the 4th floor and that was much faster. The only other issues i had with our room were the weird, heavy, sliding door on the bathroom. I fumbled with that at 3am when i woke to use the bathroom. The other concern I had was a safety issue at the pool. There are very heavy lounger chairs in the pool that can float off the ledge and sink. There were several kids playing on these and minor injuries like pinched fingers occurred on the chairs. Kids were climbing all over them like surf boards. This is a very bad accident waiting to happen and those chairs should be secured to the ledge they sit on in my opinion. The valet parking was high at $25 per night. We had breakfast in this hotel and it was absolutely terrible. If i rated the restaurant inside, alone, i would give it one star. Maybe. Never received a refill on water or coffee at all. Food was cold by the time it came out. The food tasted horrible. The value for what it was, was not good. Very slow service. We almost walked out. I would not eat here. I would stay at the hotel, but not eat here. read more

Nice new hotel with modern accommodations. I loved the leather scent wafting throughout the lobby. That was a very nice touch. Imagine attending a convention here and walking into a leather scented lobby! Nice touch. I did not eat in the restaurant on the first floor but it looked nice. The location and parking were ideal. My wife and I stopped in on 10/31 to turn in our voting card for the Signature Cocktail Showdown. For these competitions I like to turn my card into the place I am voting for. We sat at the bar and were ignore by Rob for over 10 minutes while there was only one other patron. When he finally asked for our order, I told him I'd like the signature drink and to turn in my card. I tried to hand it to him, and he wouldn't take it. He said "can you turn that in here? No one else has." He walked over to where the liquor for the signature drink is and held it up to show me it was almost empty and said he couldn't make me one. At this point the female working (Caitlyn I think?) stepped in and said she could absolutely make it for me. I'm thankful for her and she gave us a pleasant experience but the next time we go if Rob is working we'll be walking right back out. He was horribly rude for absolutely no reason, and doesn't even know the rules for the competition that his place of employment is participating? read more

Layton and Brittany went above and beyond to help us out and to accommodate my cousin and I while looking for a particular room. We chose the king corner suite which was exceptional and the view ... exactly what we were searching for. Excellent hotel, will be returning regularly. Wish breakfast was served later than 10 pm on Sundays, has to go elsewhere. Also wish the maid didn't knock on my door every fifteen minutes way before checkout when I had the do not disturb sign on, hope this doesn't happen next time. Who designed the parking lot the furthest from any door? The first door you come to is a tiny revolving door that doesn't fit you and a suitcase. The bar and restaurant are extremely expensive. You are better off walking across the street to the Beehive. There is no cash on premises. If you need change for a tip they can't help you. I ended up stiffing a server because I only had a twenty. I don't understand why they couldn't break a twenty. I won't stay here again. Abilene has better, customer friendly, less expensive options. read more

DO NOT book this hotel if you are elderly or have mobility issues . This is the worst parking setup I have ever seen. This hotel is very appealing to the eyes and location is great. However the rooms need some things added to them, such as a microwave for the extended stay guest. Along with getting rid of the motion activated a/c which is my biggest complaint. All the stuff is extremely personable and friendly. The bar is a true cocktail bar with extremely talented bartenders. The kitchen was quick and very good. read more

Smokehouse restaurant best food in Abilene. The beef short rib is is excellent. Best grits I've ever had. The smoked chicken is delicious. The black eyed pea cassoulet very good. The flat iron steak cooked perfectly with chimichurri sauce. The hummingbird cake was enormous and had a caramel sauce and grilled pineapple. Love this place!!! read more

The toilet area was not clean and the toilet seat was left up with urine around the bowl and after putting the toilet seat down, it had urine on it. I originally asked for a double bed and asked why I did not get what I asked for, the fdc said I went through a third party company and they booked me for king. I told the fdc my booking shows double bed and not king and she then said, "Oh, we just don't have any at this time". Which she should have said in the beginning instead of lying. There are no microwaves in the rooms and one has to go to the first floor to microwave something. What an inconvenience. I ordered food from the Smokehouse and the salmon was extremely salty, the collard greens were seasoned with some kind of sausage and had more bits of sausage than collards in the one serving, I mean, to many bits. It should have been called sausage with a hit of collards. It was ridiculous. Who uses sausage to season collards except for an amateur? I ordered two deserts and they were both not good. I ordered the pumpkin chi cheese cake and carrot cake. Both had very little taste and they forgot to bring my drink to the room and wouldn't answer the phone so I could inform them. There was a house keeper that came and cleaned the toilet and surrounding area because I didn't want to move to another room. I was told that I would have to go back down to the fd and get another key to the new room and go switch rooms and bring back the original. I said, "Oh no, I have been to inconvenienced!" which is when they got housekeeping to clean the toilet. That was not a good stay and when I moved the curtains there were beer bottle tops and other trash behind them and the desk chair was not clean because it looked like dried semen in the seat. I have stayed at other doubletree hotels before and I thought this one would be better because it was newer but it's not. They said they couldn't give me a discount, only point towards my membership. read more

The room was really cramped. Didn't look like the picture at all for spaciousness. There was open space under the tv along the wall but nothing to set anything on. We had to ask for an extra luggage rack but it didn't work for my friend's suitcase so it had to stay on the floor. We ask for an extra blanket and I don't know what in the world was wrong with these blankets but it was if they had partially melted in the dryer and kept sticking to themselves. The one housekeeping brought us was just rolled into a big ball. You couldn't fold them and they were not pleasant to use at all. There was only one small desk type chair to sit in. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable so that was a plus. No microwave available in the room. The shower door made a very loud awful noise when sliding open and shut. The halls were not vacuumed and were obviously dirty. I know help is really hard to find right now but for these rates I would just expect a little better service. Ask for replenishing of clean towels, coffee, condiments, and toilet paper the second day. Got clean towels, that's all. Had to call housekeeping several times it seemed to get things. I wouldn't spend this much money per night again in Abilene. Plenty of other nice, more reasonable hotels available to choose from. read more
