I went in to have two wisdom teeth removed because they were hurting a lot. I was really scared, even though it's a common procedure, but I have never received such excellent care from the doctors and staff; they put me at ease, and I literally felt no pain at all. My recovery has been so smooth that I sometimes even forget I had two teeth pulled. I am so grateful for the service and care that I want to recommend them to everyone. I had an appointment scheduled, but after I made it I had a personal scheduling conflict. So I called to reschedule for a latter time on the same day and was told there was NO WAY. The staff are unprofessional, cold, uncaring, disorganized and RUDE!!! Many years ago when in Clinton, NJ, a contractor told me he went to a dentist near my office in Newark. He asked if I knew Doug Gultz, the dentist. I didn't but needed one. He told me he drove everyone in his family from Pennsylvania to have him take care of them. That seemed pretty outstanding, so next time I needed a cleaning, Gultz was the place for me. His offices are very nice, taking up an entire Ironbound row house with a small parking lot (weather permitting, I ride my bike and there is a fence to lock your bike to). The atmosphere is pleasant with friendly receptionists. Not only do they help with scheduling visits, they call to remind me the day before. On top of that, you can count on them to recommend Portuguese restaurants in the area. On top of all this - DOUG GULTZ IS A FANTASTIC DENTIST!!! This was my dentist for a while but I can't bring myself to go anymore. Why? They have *Fox News* on in the waiting room. And they frequently run late, meaning having to listen to not only Fox News, but also Dr. Gultz commenting on Fox News for an hour. So once I got past the waiting room, I was actually *less* anxious because even extensive dental work was preferable to waiting any longer in that space. Now that Trump is president I can't bring myself to go to the dentist because of his waiting room. This is a large practice and as a result, I've seen a different dentist every time I've gone. Gultz is always there, but the actual dentist doing the work has been different. So if seeing the same doctor every time is important to you, this is not a good fit. The care I've received in general has been good, although there was the time they gave me multiple shots of novocaine because they didn't believe me when I said it just takes longer to work on me than other people. It's clean and well-kept and the staff is always friendly and considerate. They'll keep calling you to make an appointment if it's been a while. read more

My family and I were patients of Dr. Gultz D.M.D for about three years, until our last visit on 10/13/2020. He was extremely rude, loud, disrespectful and condescending. Not only he gave us an appointment and told us that we could not be examined while we were there, he also opened our charts and started reading it in front of his patients and his staff. At first I was given very good service at this office, until I needed an extraction one late evening. The Dr. Who I was schedules to see apparently had no idea he had this extraction scheduled and was quite upset, he rushed through the procedure and ran out. The next day i was wxtra swollen and uncomfortable. My mouth was one big open sore and it felt as if a piece of tooth was still left in my gum. I went back the next morning and told Dr. Gultz how I felt and about the possible tooth piece still being there and he just looked at me and asked "what do you want me to do about it, give you more drugs?" I stormed out of there irrate, and wetlnt to my primary Dr. He confirmed my mouth was full of sores and I had an infection. He then precribed me dwntal paste for my sores and antibiotics, all which Dr. Gultz failed to do. Horrible horrible experience read more

This is THE dental clinic I will highly recommend people around me to visit. Dr. Gultz and his team are outstanding both professionally and morally. I started to visit Dr. Gultz in January this year, and I hope I visited here two years ago. The whole team is very friendly and good at what they are doing. They explain, they suggest for patients' benefit, and when they sense patients have questions, they care. Everyone here, dentists, dental assistants and administrative staff are ready to help. You can feel the pleasant culture at the moment you walk into it. This clinic has specialists to visit periodically. For complicated dental situation, Dr Gultz will provide preliminary advice, and then schedule an appointment with a specialist for the patient. The receptionists are very friendly and helpful. They prepare cards for you marking the date of the next appointment and will call to remind you one day ahead of the scheduled date. If you have any questions about the charges, they will show you the paperwork and explain patiently. One more important thing I want to mention is that Dr. Gultz is a very respectful person. He cares the results his clinic brings to the patients more than anything else. My teeth were not taken good care of before. The cost of the initial work hit my insurance annual maximum in the middle of a treatment. He didn't hesitate to let his team finish the whole work without confirming whether I am able to pay for it. In the end he said "You don't have to pay. I just can't let you walk out of here with your tooth open like that!" In another day, when I was waiting in the reception area, I saw he said similar thing to another patient. I've been a patient of Dr. Gultz's for five years. My jaws needed a major overhaul and in his the practice, I was thoroughly diagnosed and a treatment plan was subsequently set that has been scrupulously followed for my utmost benefit. Dr. Gultz himself is a great doctor. He's a no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point professional who runs a tight ship of excellent dentists (I'll spare you the specialties but they are all represented). The presence of a dental lab on site is also a great plus. The support staff are also a team of dedicated professionals who combine skills and warmth, the latter means a lot at a dentist's office :-). The overall ambience is very family-like, where depending on the time you're there, you may get treated to doughnuts or pizza!!! The hours the practice keep are extremely convenient. I got 7:30 pm appointments thus getting treatment at the end of my workday. The practice is also open on Saturdays! How cool is that? Everyone here is an absolute pleasure to interact with. My family has been going to his office for 20+ years and we have nothing but high praise for his team. I moved out to California in 2010, but conveniently find myself back in New Jersey every 6 months for college reunions and holidays with the family. They have treated my family not just in a professional health care way.... but treats you like family not just a number like most Medical Offices. I no longer am a regular patient here, but this office continues to amaze me. I recently had a semi-emergency on a Friday night with my almost-2 year old who had fallen and hit his two front teeth on pavement who was clearly in pain for most of that evening. This being our first child and never having experienced something like this, I called some local dentists with hopes of connecting with someone who can help me. All of our the local dentist offices didn't have clear voicemail instructions on how to reach someone off-hours so I decided to give Dr. Gultz a try, knowing he and his team have always been so great and make themselves available to their patients when they can. I left a voicemail and got a direct call back from Dr. Gultz within an hour. While they don't see infants, he was really great about offering some general advice over the phone and even offered to take a quick look the next morning to give us his opinion on next steps to take, if needed. I drove over to Newark the following morning and as expected, he and his staff were really great with my cranky and sore-gummed boy. (He turned out to be okay after some soft foods and Tylenol.) These guys really care about what they do, take their patients (even former ones!) very seriously and really treat everyone with great care and respect. I wish I lived closer so I could send my boys there when they get older. This really is a fantastic office, one that I highly recommend. read more

There are too many things wrong with this office for me to go into detail about the magnitude of how bad it is. My only advice to you is do NOT go here if you need to get any major work done. The doctor is completely inappropriate and rude in regards to bedside manner. Unprofessional is an understatement. While the woman at the front desk are nice, they aren't the ones working on your mouth so it really doesn't even matter. They make huge mistakes and get irritated when you ask them to fix them. First of all I went there for an emergency and they didn't have a surgeon at their place, but took my emergency anyways, the problem wasn't that but I noticed they started taking lots of x-rays around my mouth, and I was there only for an emergency in ONE teeth. I also realized that they clearly take advantage of people who do not speak English (they don't offer translated forms for example). The "dentist" that took care of my emergency was very rude and didn't talk to me too much about my case and didn't mention prices or how should I proceed for not having the same problem again. In resume this place is VERY commercial, I would recommend people to go to a small dentist office with good reviews, one where the owner talks to you and explains your problem at least with education. read more

If I could give this dentist zero stars I would. I had my one and only experience with Dr Gultz on 10/2/18. My appointment was scheduled for 230 PM. After filling out my paperwork I was taken back to get an X-ray. Went back to the waiting room and sat until 335. The woman behind the desk seemed puzzled that I had not been taken back for my exam. A minute later Dr Gultz came out and asked me what time I needed to be out of there. I told him my appointment was at 230 and I had been waiting for 1 hour and 10 minutes at that point. He said well we have emergencies and if an appointment was so important to me I should have made mine the first appointment of the day...I responded by saying when I called they should have told me they were running at least an hour. Shins schedule and he said well if they had then by the time you got here it may have been longer. I have never waited anywhere that long for an appointment. At that point the hygienist came to get me. We get to the room and he comes in to tell her he needs her to do something for another emergency patient. I got up and told him that I was leaving because at this point it was ridiculous for the amount of time (90 minutes) I have waited again with a scheduled appointment. He said "Don't you care about people" well last time I checked I was a person to and I deserved to be treated as such. I'm not one to review often but this man does not deserve to be in practice because quite clearly he doesn't care enough about the people that make appointments. I would highly recommend that you find another dentist!!! read more

They have both an exceptionally talented and professional crew, as well as extremely affordable pricing. All I can say is UNPROFESSIONAL and DISRESPECTFUL!! This dentist (Dr. Gultz) basically was very rude and disrespectful to me because of miscommunication on the behalf of his staff. I drove all the way from NC to come get some cavities filled and tooth extracted. I explained this over the phone to his staff and they didn't say this couldn't be done. They agreed to schedule. When I got there at least 5 people asked me what was I getting done today. That's when I knew there was an issue. The dentist had just got done screaming at another customer because he put the wrong crown in the patients motuh. The patient never went to the back for service but Dr. Gultz told his staff to charge her anyways!! Unbelievable! He comes to me with the same attitude and ask why did I think I was getting all that work done in one day? I thought that because of his staff! They never told me over the phone I couldn't do that. Why would I come all the way from NC for a consultation? He basically called me a liar and said he knew his staff for 20 years and they would never say anything like that because they would be fired. The staff was very intimated by this man (Dr. Gultz) He had just called them "nobodies" in front of other patients. I was appalled. Me and the dentist argued for a good ten minutes. I got up and left. I wasted my time and my money coming a doctor that calls himself the "best" and "highly recommended." He was far from that. If his approach was different and if he would have took the time to explain why I couldn't do everything in one day I would have been receptive. He flat out said he couldn't do it! I moved into the Ironbound and had the pleasure of meeting Dr Gultz. I had heard of his professionalism and his commitment to patient care from my neighbors and friends in the local area. He asked me to come in for an Oral exam and I did. Needless to say I did not do well since I have not been to a dentist in a while. I was very pleased with his staff, who, have excellent bedside manner and they took great care to explain what I needed. Not sure about the name of the doctor but it was not Dr Douglas, seems someone new joined to the clinic. He did the worst job, i had little pain around my already root canal tooth, he did some cleaning and filling, during the process he hurted corner of my lips. The pain after the treatment stayed for a month. For some reason more pain developed next to the treatment tooth, not sure about the reason but visiting other dentist to get it fixed. I will not recommend this clinic to anyone. read more

All my life, I've been to dentist practices where it feels like the doctors don't care. Too often the citizens of Newark are told that they do not deserve the best medical care: they are made to wait too long for services that are rushed. I am happy to say that this is NOT the case with Doug Gultz and his long standing practice. Dr. Gultz's team is very thorough with teeth cleanings. The staff is very friendly and professional. In addition to the pride the dentists and specialists have when performing their work, Dr. Gultz really takes time to talk to his patients like friends. While the dentistry is about restoring health and preventing long-term issues, Dr. Gultz really understands that this is a services business, and his customer service skills are exemplary. The only advice I would have to anyone coming here is to inquire about the least busy times to schedule an appointment. Because his practice is so good, there can be times where there is a wait. Dr. Gultz is amazing! I was new in town and chipped a tooth, they took me the same day, and I have been coming back ever since for a series of extensive dental work. The office staffmembers are friendly and accomodating. They are always on time with their appointments and very thorough. I especially appreciate that during every appointment, they take the time to review your latest treatment and discuss the next steps. Plus, they always have some sort of restaurant-style food readily available for patients, and its always delicious. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Gultz and his team from the receptionists to all of the other dentists/surgeons/staff I saw. They truly went above and beyond in caring for me. Even before I got to the office for my surgery, they provided good information and answered all of my questions ( and I had a lot of questions!). The technology with the X-rays was fascinating, everything was shown and explained to me. They made sure I understood everything that would happen.
