I sought out wanting piano lessons for my son and I just assumed all schools would be the same. I was directed to Forte because of reviews of my friends'. Upon entering the school, I was impressed, I must admit. But honestly, it's not like I had other music schools to compare it to. The first instructor we had was young, a little wet behind the ears, but a knowledgeable instructor. After the first year, we switched to a more seasoned teacher, much like any student would in regular school. My thought was to have as rounded an education for my son as possible. But this is where it gets real. Our new teacher, Sy Winnie, was from another planet. He didn't just instruct well because he is the greatest piano player I've ever personally witnessed, but he related to my son on a personal level. My son wanted to talk about his piano teacher WELL after the lesson was over and I knew something magical was happening. After the second year, I noticed my son's skills becoming remarkably noticeable and random strangers would comment. He began playing public pianos in different cities we would vacation in, and people even began to tip him! As the years went on, my son has developed such a strong skill in music that it extended not only to him joining the band in middle school and high school, but it actually bettered his academics as well! Music education develops pathways in the brain that normal students never develop which enhance the learning curve on any subject. My son is now in high school, has a 4.0 school average and his musicianship has never been better. His youtube videos of his piano playing has even been watched by thousands. When the quarantine hit, I thought this would slow his music education or even ruin it. But, the owner of the school called me directly to tell me he didn't want to lose him as a student. They set up lessons via tablet-technology and continued regardless of distance. This school doesn't just teach. It cares. I honestly think it changed not only my son's life, but indirectly, mine too.

Which is great to go watch a basketball game, or a wrestling match where they are able to get three full mats on the floor, plus have space to move around. It's well lit for photography too. The facility is top notch. My only complaint is that because of the large space, sounds echo a lot, so when the band decides to strike up a tune, Watch out!! The noise gets a little out of hand, but I'm sure that's great for the home court advantage. Moving outside to the stadium ... It's one of the best facilities in the state for football, soccer, baseball, softball you name it. There are two beautiful fields for baseball and softball that are both well maintained and a pleasure to watch a game at. The real gem is the "football" stadium where football and soccer are played. The field is astroturf, but well kept up. The stadium itself is gorgeous, with a fantastic sounds system, lots of space in the bleachers and a roomy press box. You can't ask for a better set of athletic facilities at a public school.

The facility, though this is shared with a church, is very clean and secure. A proxy card is provided to get you and your kids inside the building. There are four rooms that vary by age and quite a few workers to make sure there is a good ratio. The teachers sweat, cry, and bleed for these kids. As far as I can tell, they care as much for the kids they watch over as much as we do as parents - and THAT is a big deal. These people are incredible teachers, mentors, and friends to our kids. At 2 years old, my kids know the alphabet, their colors, and how to count to 20-ish (they mumble and skip sometimes, but the knowledge is in there!) and I believe they will be supremely prepared for school (whether it's public, private, or home): and it's the teachers' doing. I love these ladies and we feel so blessed to have them in or lives - I can't say enough good things about them. So: clean, safe, and a wonderfully loving and educational environment - what's the catch? Communication issues aren't constant, but every organization has them, and some of the times we are the culprit, but it's obviously not a dealbreaker. I would highly recommend this place for any kids. I can't wait to see what their education will look like because of Montessori's head start.

Our 3 year daughter was enrolled at this Montessori school for a total of 35 minutes (yes, 35…read moreminutes), as we received a phone call on her 1st day to pick her up within 25 minutes of her arriving because she was throwing blocks. When my husband quickly arrived 10 minutes later (at that time our daughter was sitting in the circle next to the teacher), the assistant director handed her belongings to my husband and said she could not come back. We tried SEVERAL times throughout the day to contact the school to speak to Marie, the owner, to simply have a conversation, with NO response. Later in the day, our neighbor came to our front door with a letter in their mailbox stating it had our name on it. The owner dropped off a letter, including our daughter's medical records they had collected (ummm HIPPA?), and our returned deposit/tuition......TO THE WRONG ADDRESS. Marie was unable to have a simple and professional conversation, return our phone calls and decided on her own it was acceptable to just leave a letter/medical records/check in the WRONG mailbox with no phone call. This is completely unprofessional and un-excusable. My brother and I both went to a Montessori school growing up and had an amazing experience, which is even more reason to be thrilled to have one close by after our 4th child was born. This has COMPLETELY destroyed my (and my entire family's) taste of Montessori and everything they stand for. If they can give a 3 year old 25 minutes of their time to tell the parents their child can't come back, just think of the lack of patience, disrespect and judgement they will give your own child. And then to not return phone calls from a concerned parent? This is NOT acceptable behavior from an establishment that is to care for YOUR CHILD. My husband and I were both raised Downriver, we currently have 4 children (our 3 year old being our youngest), and know many generations of families here, particularly families with children. We will be giving our honest opinion to every single friend or acquaintance who asks us about our experience, because every parent and EVERY CHILD DESERVES BETTER. To every other parent reading this, please use our mistake to choose better for your child.....do your research and read these reviews. We need to be advocates for our children, and establishments like this NEED to be held accountable for their complete lack of care, communication, patience and compassion. A warning to all parents!!! Friends and Family Daycare only cares about the money and not your…read morechild! Tracy, the owner of Friends and Family made it very apparent that we were replaceable as she has a waitlist a year long! Backstory: My fiancé Olga and I had our first child at the end of May. We were fortunate enough to be in a position that Olga could work from home and then work part time at her office after our daughter was born. Our lease was up in September and so we were looking to move to the Clinton, Tecumseh, Adrian area. Friends and Family came highly recommended by one of our close friends who currently have their son enrolled there. They did not have an opening in the infant room until the start of the year but that was fine as our schedules allowed Olga to continue to work part time in the office while continuing to care for our child. At the start of daycare our daughter 7 months old and her and Olga formed a close bond so we knew that starting daycare was going to be a big change for our daughter. Olga expressed our concerns to Tracy but was assured that everything would be okay. On Monday, 1/2/2023 our daughter started day care and as suspected after a few hours was extremely fussy and we offered to come pick her up. Again this happened on Tuesday, and again we offered to pick her up early. On Wednesday our daughter immediately freaked out once she realized where she was but we left her hoping that she would be consoled and calm down after we were gone. Unfortunately this did not happen and again we picked her up. We tried discussing ways to help with the transition and how to make this easier for everyone and it was decided that I drop her off on Thursday. Thursday morning came and I dropped our daughter off and again immediately she began crying and we received message that she was inconsolable and that they have never had a baby be this fussy after 3-4 days in daycare. Again we picked up our daughter and Olga had a conversation with Tracy which left her very upset. Please note at no point did anyone from Friends and Family suggest to just leave her for the full day and let her cry it out or figure out that being fussy is not going to get us to come pick her up. In fact, it was quite the opposite and we were told essentially that Val's crying was being very disruptive to the other babies in the room and Tracy was concerned staff would quit over having to handle a fussy baby... After talking it over with friends who infants in day care, I reached out to Tracy in an effort to discuss the situation and how we can make this transition easy for everyone. During the conversation, Tracy' did make a few suggestions that could be helpful and we will be trying them, the overall impression I gained from the conversation was that my child is replaceable and if she does not become a model baby and not fussy within the next week we will be asked to leave. To quote Tracy during this conversation, "I have a wait list a year out and I can find another infant." Following our conversation I sent Tracy an email expressing our concerns and that it was apparent that our daughter is expected to fall in line or we would be asked to leave and that Friends and Family would not be providing any extra help during the transition process and that ultimately we have decided to terminate the relationship. Within 11 minutes of that email Tracy simply provided the most apathetic response of "Sorry that we couldn't work on this but with state guidelines we have to follow it was hard to do what Olga wanted us to do." We simply needed some guidance and asked for some extra help provided to our 7 month old daughter while she goes through this transition. We were not expecting such help to be provided indefinitely and if after a few weeks it was still a problem then we will look at other options. To further solidify my opinion that Tracy only cares about the money and all our children are easily replaceable. Not only did they not offer a refund of our deposit but about an our after terminating our relationship with Friends and Family Daycare I received an invoice for the four, half-days that our daughter spent there. See the attached email. Do yourself a favor and find another day care facility who actually cares about you and your family especially if you think your child transitioning to day care will be difficult or you might end up writing a similar email.
