While I didn't find many of the famous Cape May diamonds, I still loved walking the shoreline and taking in the view. The atmosphere during sunset was wonderful, with people gathering to watch the sun go down together. There's also a visible sunken ship. Was mostly chill until sunset of course, people gathered to watch the sunset. Restaurant right on the beach, 2 gift shops, a mini cold course, the WWIl lookout tower as well. Plenty of parking. It's definitely worth adding to your Cape May itinerary.

Fire Control Tower No. 23 is one of a series of towers with observation decks that was used to triangulate the position of enemy ships and direct the artillery fire from nearby coastal batteries. This tower is all that remains in NJ and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Leashed dogs are allowed to explore the property and you can learn about the history through signage dotted along the path. There is also a Veterans Memorial eternal flame sculpture. Dogs are not allowed inside the building, but it is still an impressive stop on your visit.

This was the first opportunity to learn about them, and I of course took it! These were built during WW II as part of the Fort Myers Delaware Bay defense system. They were observation posts used to report enemy ship activity, directing nearby artillery. They were not in service for long as advances in technology made them obsolete. This is one of two that have been restored & are open to the public- the other is at Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware. I had an interesting chat with a volunteer, who told me that people often think these were used for spotting fires, which was never their purpose. He told me you can go inside and climb stairs to the 6th level & look out the slotted view. I elected not to as I've recently fractured my ankle & I didn't think my physical therapist would be happy with me climbing all those stairs just yet. I'm looking forward to a return visit once my rehab is complete. Note: They have reduced hours in the off season (October to April).

Capt TJ worked hard to land our limit of fish but more importantly, he really helped my nephews get hooked on fishing at such a young age. I knew it was going to a bit hit or miss experience since it was the first time on the boat for both of them and he knocked it out of the park. They had such a great time and I was so happy to see the joy in their faces every time they had a fish on. It was also awesome to witness the passion Capt TJ has for the sport of fishing and his genuine desire to keep future generations inspired to be out on the water. Thanks for the awesome experience Capt and we look forward to coming back to Cape May and being on your boat.

Dogs are permitted here November through (I believe) May. This is a wonderful park/walk. The salt marsh is prominently focused, which is a great perspective! The trail is well maintained. Can't wait to see it in the spring!

The Garrett Family Preserve is a hidden gem, tucked away off the "main drag" heading towards…read moredowntown Cape May & the beaches. This preserve, one of several maintained by The Nature Conservancy, offers a variety of well maintained, level walking trails winding through marshes & meadows. This land is home to a variety of resident & migratory birds, butterflies, small mammals and insects. Trail markings are minimal, however it's really impossible to get lost. There is even a braille signed trail with sensory elements for those with visual impairments. The parking lot is mostly gravel, with concrete pads for handicapped spaces. There is a handicapped-accessible porta potty and some benches along paths to rest and enjoy the preserve. I highly recommend bug repellent and a good hat. Birders should bring binoculars as there is quite a bit to see, especially since this preserve is relatively undisturbed. It's one of my new favorite places for peaceful, low stress walking at the shore.
