The most functional parts are the sports fields, picnic area, and playground. Playground looks very new as of Aug 2021. Rubber chips all over for safety, all playstructures are clean, functional, and updated. It had a lot of cool stuff my toddler loved! A kid drum circle!!! Can you imagine if enough kids were there to play all the drums? So fun! There was no one else there at the time of my visit in a weekday afternoon. Had it all to myself. This park has a dog bag and waste disposal station just off the parking lot, so unlike other CMC parks, it appears dogs are permitted at this one.

It was named after Lower Township Police Officer David C. Douglass, Sr. who was killed in the line of duty and the spot serves as a memorial to his legacy. Dogs are fully allowed on the beach from the day after Labor Day through the day before Memorial Day. They can also go on the beach in-season from 4pm-11am (overnight). It is unclear if dogs have to be leashed, so use caution. Watch the ferry and find some relaxation here.

A small beach within a short distance from the parking lot, calm water, a jetty for my husband to fish off of, and lots of shells and treasure to be found. There were 2 port-a-potties at the time of our visit and a few picnic tables by the parking lot but no frills beyond that. No lifeguards on duty. We enjoyed watching many boats go by during our peaceful, private visit. Happy to have found our new 'secret spot'

This is not your typical beach with restaurants, boardwalks, and amenities. It's a peaceful, natural shoreline where you can enjoy wildlife, shells, beautiful views, and a quieter atmosphere. After spending time at the busier beaches, Higbee was the perfect place to slow down, walk around, and appreciate the beauty of nature. If you're looking for a more relaxed and less crowded Cape May experience, I definitely recommend adding Higbee Beach to your itinerary. Would I come back? Absolutely. Side note: HIGBEE BEACH is Hidden behind wooded dunes and far from the crowds, Higbee Beach is a wild, untouched stretch along the Delaware Bay. No lifeguards, no boardwalk, no badge required-just nature, birdwatching, and calm waters perfect for quiet mornings. Pro tip: bring water shoes.

During the late summer horseshoe crabs beach themselves here a lot too. It is very peaceful here and we did walk it in the evening which is great. One of the best sites for sunsets in New Jersey. I love National Parks…read more Not just because I'm patriotic with an environmentalist sensibility -- but because they are time warps of sorts -- a glimpse back at the way things once were and (hopefully) will be for our descendants -- long downstream. The Cape May National Wildlife Refuge is a pleasant respite from the commercialism of Jersey Shore holidays -- its' boardwalk attractions, fast food and fast living. It is well marked and you can bring your binocs along to spot wildlife and unique plants and flora found nowhere else. Better still -- bike in and hop scotch around between dunes and other natural formations -- but avoid crossing into the restricted areas that are clearly marked by Area 51 type warning signs -- lest you want automatic weapon toting humans rousting you. We walked the trails in sand, alongside more poison ivy in one 2 square mile stretch than I have probably seen in my entire life. Bring bug spray, a fishing pole to cast off the jetty -- and maybe even long pants and an epipen if you are especially sensitive to insect stings and poisonous plants. Free bird watching walks are regularly available and -- thankfully -- it is a relatively unpopulated attraction so it is soulful in its solitude.

Access from the beach is closed off by ropes and volunteers monitor those trying to walk the refuge from April thru September 31st. Protected area for migrating and nesting birds. There is a great trails to see the wildlife refuge. It runs parallel to the beach. Guided tours are available. We saw some great birds this summer landing on the beach! My first spotting of an American Oyster Cracker. I only wish I was able to get a picture, happened so fast. Don't forget your binoculars! The butterfly migration in October is really something to see, nature at its best. We have spotted white skunks, and have seen one coyote.

This park was recently redone and boy has it been a beautiful renovation. Many people just sit and stare out over beautiful sunset lake on the 40 or more benches from one end of the park to the other. Kids frolic. Seniors meet w friends. Surrounding and adorning the park are many memorials that you should take the time to view. Monuments to veterans and in a little tiny Grassy area on New Jersey Ave. you'll see a tiny memorial to a local resident who was lost on the 9/11 tragedy at WTC. Over the years this has become a photo op for people who are leaving Wildwood crest after their summer vacations. Memories are made here

That is the one draw for nice sunny days. That said, this place is freshly redone, looks beautiful, and has made excellent use of its acreage, to get a variety of recreational options into every corner of the space! Port-a-potty restrooms off the parking lot. Playground has a SUPER HIGH slide that is pretty friggin exciting. Plenty of play structures, swings (one all-abilities swing), and rubber turf. Pavilion has a number of picnic tables and trash cans. Adjacent green lawn space can be used for picnicking or chilling. Not enough room to fly a kite, but the beaches are so close, they're much better for that anyway. Sport courts (tennis, basketball, pickle ball) are gorgeously surfaced, and well-netted/-fenced. Dog park is all fenced, bag station, benches, and rules clearly posted. Great find in Cape May County!!!

Tiny but Beautiful Bayfront park with photographic opportunities of Sunset Lake…read more There is really no parking as it is on a narrow section of NJ Avenue but there is on side streets. The sidewalks are laid out in curves which adds to the already awesome visual beauty. Take a seat on one of the benches and watch the activities on the bay.
