We spoke often those first few weeks after my daughter's birth and she was so supportive and reassured me that I was doing a great job. Since my daughters birth 5 years ago, Paige and I have remained close and she is my go to person when I need support naturally balancing my hormones and nutrition, when I have questions about infant behaviors and sleep, and when I just need to speak to someone who is positive, and kind, and always supportive. Although my issues are pretty common with other women, it's been so painful and annoying to the point where I would cry. I would go to my internal medicine doctor and gyno at least once a month and each time I was treated without empathy and prescribed the same medication with absolutely no actual solution to the root of my problem. No matter what doctor I saw or how much money I spent on medication the problem would come back after a few days. I started losing hope in getting any better since even these "medical professionals" couldn't help me. I came across Paige's Instagram one day randomly and saw that she posted a lot about her experiences and education with women's health. I wanted to take a more holistic approach on my health and even got off birth control after 7 years to give my body a break and feel as natural as possible. I reached out to Paige through social media and I am so happy I did! I scheduled a one-on-one FaceTime constellation with her and wow she went above and beyond than anyone else has. Talking to her was like talking to a best friend - it was comfortable and natural only with a lot more educational and legit information! Paige took her time and evaluated my daily lifestyle (from what I eat, sleep patterns, stress, etc) after that she gave me a wide variety of recommendations on how to heal my gut internally and externally as well as how to ease the process of getting off birth control. She had so much valuable information and offered affordable and realistic approaches on how to heal myself. There is no overnight remedy for anything and although she didn't prescribe me a one and done cure, she suggested many lifestyle changes that would help me in the long run and my overall health - not just for my gut issues. I've been applying a lot of her recommendations, such as dietary changes and adding probiotics and supplements to my daily routine. Wow wow I have already seen more of a change in a little over a month than I have seen in over a year of visiting doctors monthly. I am so grateful I met Paige! She made me feel like I wasn't alone and that things would be better! She was so empathetic and patient with me! I would definitely recommend her to anyone having health problems - especially women! Not only is she so wise and sweet but also provides affordable services! She has even followed up with more than once after our consultation! She is calming and kind, helpful and responsive, while also being effective as a guide when difficult decisions arise. After working with her during the birth of our daughter, I cannot imagine it being any different At first, I was a little wary of having a third person in the room during the birth, because I wanted to be the main source of support for my wife. But, at our first meeting, Afshan put those concerns to rest and continued to do so by truly serving as support for me and for my wife. She did what we needed to make sure the process was as smooth as possible, while making us both feel honored and vital. It was really great to have that kind of support so that if I needed a rest, I could do that and then come back as a better partner. In addition, having Afshan there with us was really helpful because of her excellent relationships with the staff at the hospital. The fact that she had worked with the nurses and doctors there was very helpful in relaying information, getting what we needed, and in working together as a team when it was time to push. When I gave birth to my daughter in December 2013, I was having a lot of difficulty breastfeeding and wanted to give up. However, Loretta spent many many hours with me teaching me different techniques and positions until I found one that was comfortable and worked. I was also dealing with a pretty bad bout of postpartum anxiety (similar to postpartum depression), which made every obstacle seem even worse to me. Loretta was always patient and loving. I honestly do not think she realizes the overwhelming love and gratitude I have for her for being by my side during a time I really needed it. Super clinical and zero emotions or warmth. After 5 minutes she just said I can't help you; zero milk. I felt bad for about 2 days then did formula and gave up on breastfeeding. This is an exaggeration on Simone's part. 2.) my husband never referred her to anyone else. I wonder if Simone is confusing us without another family. 3.) I cannot speak on the extent of the support Simone provided, as I was in labor. She may be accurate in the fact that she engaged my husband in a phone call and some text messages. I do remember speaking to her briefly after giving birth when asking her for a refund, which she is correct in stating that she provided. 4.) if it was impractical for Simone to provide back up support given my location, she should have been upfront about this, which she wasn't when I initially informed her or the move. This would have allowed me to make an informed decision in hiring her. 5.) all of our classes with the exception of 1 were conducted virtually. She is not accurate in stating that they were all in person support. I'd like to make clear that I understand Simone had another commitment and she was unable to be in two places at once. However, I want to emphasize that it was her responsibility as a doula to ensure a contingency plan. It is not my intent to go back and forth with Simone but to provide accurate feedback on my experience in the hope that she does better in the future to improve her service. We'd already taken a bunch of classes, however we wanted someone with experience to be in the room for delivery to advocate for our birth plan wishes and guide us. We met Simone through Zoom for her to learn about not only our pregnancy journey, but us as a family and first-time parents. She helped with stretches, food/drink suggestions to encourage labor to start, natural pain remedies, breathing techniques and a realistic expectation of what delivery would be like for a high-risk "mature" mom at Weill-Cornell. I was in labor for several days and Simone helped us through all of it. It meant a lot that when we didn't understand medical terminology she would explain it to us, remind us of our wishes, and helped keep us calm throughout the entire process. I also love that she took candid pictures (at our request) of the birthing experience.  Simone is incredibly professional, polite to hospital staff, but firm when she needed to be if someone wasn't listening or honoring our wishes. Having an advocate in the delivery room helped bring me peace. When it came time to push, she held my hand, looked me in the eye and encouraged me to listen to my body. She helped guide me to welcome our daughter into the world and that's priceless. Simone also did a home visit after to check on breastfeeding and help with all of our follow-up questions. I've texted her several times after as well for advice from everything to nursing to sleeping. Your money will be well spent with Simone. Its an investment where she is fully present and helpful beyond belief! I feel like I have a family friend for life and am honored she helped ease the transition from a couple to a family of three!

i wish for every parent the empowering, transformative birth I had with this practice--an…read moreexperience that should be a universal right but that is unfortunately a rarified privilege. i have early life medical trauma, as i imagine is common for many women and people of color. before my experience with Village Obstetrics, which took me as a late transfer at 36 weeks, i ranked childbirth as among my biggest fears. now it is among my most liberating and empowering experiences, all thanks to Dr. Worth, Dr. Mussalli, Lourdes, and Leanne. i have a genetic predisposition to hypertension and knew that preeclampsia and early induction were likely for my first birth. but i was committed to as natural a birth as possible, and, for brain and organ development purposes, to keep my baby gestating for as long as it was safe to do so. when i voiced these values to my previous doctor - a highly regarded OB in NYC - she stood over me and shouted in my face, while my bump was out and exposed, that I didn't have that option because I was a "geriatric." (I'm 36 years old.) I contacted Village Obstetrics the next day and, despite that it was a Saturday during her long-planned vacation, Dr. Worth called me the same day and spent two hours on the phone with me, and then texting and emailing over the weekend to follow up. every in-office experience was similar--Drs. Worth and Mussalli spent as much time as I needed during each appointment, and that indeed included some two hour visits. thanks not just to the doctors but also Lourdes and Leanne, the office feels nothing like a clinic (important for those with trauma) but more like a home, where one is cared for and valued as a human being. I never once felt like I had to be my own advocate, never once doubted whether the doctors were on my side--a too-rare experience in obstetrics (I've had prior pregnancy losses and have tried out my share of doctors). my baby was born on her due date at 40 weeks; her birth was safe and smooth, and we were both healthy and discharged 24 hours after birth. any other practice would have forced me into induction at 37 weeks, but Drs. Worth and Mussalli worked with me to balance the risks against the benefits for *my particular pregnancy*-- a refreshingly humane approach in an inhumane world far too concerned with reading statistics and warding off liability. it's worth noting that Dr. Mussalli--who more than overcame my distrust of male doctors-- is one of the only high-risk doctors who still handles deliveries himself, and I was lucky to have him at mine. after my baby was born, we encountered a not-uncommon complication because my placenta was not detaching on its own. i've had friends who experienced this and had to be separated from their babies and taken to the OR and undergo full anesthesia. but Dr. Mussalli, pro that he is, manually handled it with zero side effects in the delivery room, without disrupting our precious golden hour-- a gift for which I will forever be grateful. i trust no one else to bring my children into the world. i understand the finances here may be prohibitive. but if you have the means--as someone who (literally) grew up hungry and counting pennies--i can assure you that Village Obstetrics is more than worth it.

As a first time mom, I found myself frustrated with trying to breastfeed my daughter. When you're…read morein the hospital, it feels like the lactation consultant comes by once to show you the ropes, then they check-in once or twice, and the nurse might help, but you're really alone on your journey. People will tell you to work thru a painful latch when you know it doesn't have to be that way. You may also feel intimidated to ask for more help because staff are either tired or have short patience. So when I was discharged, I decided I needed to find a lactation consultant in my community. I went thru the La Leche league and that was a waste of time. Then I came upon Ora Feeding, which turned out to be a helpful resource. Firstly, the process to get service is lengthy but it's worth it. There is an intake assessment that asks a lot of questions but please understand, they are trying to get as much information as possible to help you, so prepare yourself. I liked that they have numerous locations and virtual help to support you. I communicated with Nina via text and was able to get an appointment within about 2-3 weeks of inquiring. Due to the snow storm and blizzard at the time, I anticipate things were slower and limited than usual. My appointment was set with Guramrit who was amazing! Guramrit took the time to learn about me and the concerns I had then she assessed my latch and positioning. It turns out that I had a fast letdown and my baby was not able to keep up, so she was clamping down really hard to compensate. Guramrit showed me ways to position my baby for comfort and optimal feeding. We also went over some oral exercises that would strengthen her reflexes and we discussed my current feeding equipment including bottles. I truly felt understood, safe, and at ease for once. I was a bit nervous leaving because I wasn't sure I'd remember everything but luckily, they have a patient portal. Within a few days Guramrit sent a care plan that included her recommendations and other resources. It was easy to access and I was able to message her with additional questions and concerns. About 2-3 weeks later I had a follow up appointment that was just as great with consistent care. Now, although I had a great experience, I wish they offered more follow up. After my first appointment, I asked for a follow up. After the second appointment, I never heard from anyone again. Perhaps they felt that I was good on my own at that point, but I think at minimum, a check-in was warranted. I still had minor challenges after the second appointment but I decided to use a virtual service offered by my insurance instead. Since a plan of care was created, I naturally thought they would reach out to see my progress but I'm guessing they leave it to the patient. Nonetheless, I appreciate the care I received. My daughter is now 8 months and thriving. Moreover, I'm proudly and comfortably still breastfeeding! Thank you to the Ora Feeding time. I would return for service again and I highly recommend them to others.
