Beautiful property with fruit trees and coffee trees galore. The property has a winding downhill route from the parking lot and is a picturesque stroll across the way. We arrived on an early weekday afternoon, an hour and a half before close. We spent a good half hour exploring along the route and taking pictures to and back. They offer a shuttle service as well, but they run at certain times. The shuttle times are posted on a sign at their gift shop, which is located at the end of the route. It is also recommended to pay $5 cash at the top but you can also pay the entrance fee at their gift shop. Last time allowed in is at 2 pm, an hour before close. If you make it in before that time, they will keep the gates open. If no one is in the property around this time, they will close the gates. read more

Wow this place is beautiful! We went when it wasn't crowded so we got to take a nice walk down and got to enjoy a lot of what the grounds offered. When got to the end, there was fresh coffee for tasting for blends they sell. English was limited with the owners but were so sweet and helpful still. They offer shuttle to go back up as its steep hills back. Great service by the staff as some of us went walking back and they offered umbrellas to use as it might rain. This place was such a hidden gem! One of my favorite highlights of my trip in Hawaii! This place is beautiful and the garden is very well maintained. There is a paved path to walk on. At the end of the trail you'll reach the infinity pool that has amazing views of the island. Donations of only $5 per person and they cut up fresh fruit for you as well as coffee samples! We were here in April and it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. It's a coffee farm, AND a fruit orchard, AND Japanese gardens. For a suggested donation (I think it was $5?), you can take a self-guided tour of the grounds. You start at the top of the hill and work your way down. Along the way, you're allowed to eat any ripe fruit that you find, which changes seasonally, and there is a table with a nutcracker for cracking fresh macadamia nuts. When you get to the end of the path, there's a large gazebo overlooking a beautiful infinity pool and the ocean. There are also coffee samples to try and multiple varieties avail for purchase. Staff was really sweet and gave us a ride back to the top of the hill, because it had started raining pretty hard (but I think they'll give you a ride back up no matter what, if you want one). The day we were there happened to be my birthday and it was our last full day in town, and I'm so glad this is how we spent it. I recently ordered more of their coffee to give as holiday gifts, and it arrived in Seattle very quickly. The peaberry is my fave - highly recommend! read more

Could this place be any more beautiful? They used the space incredibly well. Your encourage to roam around between all the fruit trees and pick at well. There's a beautiful infinity pool at the bottom of your walk and staff are there to wash and cut your fruit for you as well as serve you, fresh coffee. Amazing place! Very interactive and relaxing. The price is very affordable $5 per person. We went on Tuesday and it was pretty empty. You can pick fruit and take it down to the sitting area and the staff will cut and plate it for you. OH WHAT FOND MEMORIES we have of this place!!! *** DISCLAIMER - I visited Mauka Meadows Doutor Coffee Farm way back in 2007 (13 years ago). However, based on current reviews & pictures, it virtually looks the same! So I thought I'd add my review. 2006 marked the beginning of our wanderlust and by the following year we were starting to check off bucket list destinations. It was our first-time visiting Hawaii or ever taking a long flight, so EVERYTHING was exciting!!! At the time, I don't exactly remember this place having a name or being a business. I just remember driving along and seeing a sign in a tiny parking area at the top of the property inviting people to come look. The sign also said that we could park, walk downhill and someone would shuttle us back and although we thought that was strange, we figured "why not?" The path through the "farm" is basically a long asphalt driveway to the bottom through fruit tree fields, flowers, flowering shrubs and delightful landscaping. There may have also been a coffee bean vineyard, but I don't recall seeing one. What I remember most is passing a grove of small trees that we (for some reason) thought were rubber trees. This spawned a family debate over whether or not rubber tree branches bend or break. Me being the wise patriarch of the family insisted they would bend, so I grabbed a small branch tip to demonstrate. Well, I was wrong and literally for the past 13 years it has been repeatedly brought up in nearly ANY SITUATION when I'm claiming certainty of thought. "Sweetie, I'm certain the hotel is this way!" I might say. "As certain as you were that rubber tree branches don't break?" is likely the follow-up. It is the quintessential definition of not ever being able to live something down... thanks to our happenstance visit to this place! ~ FINAL THOUGHTS At the time it wasn't much to see other than great views of the Pacific as well as beautiful landscaping, which culminated at the infinity pool and cabana. However, they did give us a large sample cup of the coffee made in a small house right there on-site using an impressive roasting machine. While it was a lovely experience, truly the only thing I fully remember is that dang "rubber tree incident" LOL! We've had a good laugh about this place for 13 years now and although we visited a total of 4 islands during our week long visit and saw all kinds of wonders, my most vivid memory of Hawaii is here! Funny how some things get lodged in your head, eh? IF ever we were to return to Hawaii, coming back here would be a must simply because of the fun memories of just how much we laughed when that dang branch snapped! What a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the smells and views of the Big Island! Mauka Meadows was an awe inspired beautiful garden and coffee farm! The walk from the parking lot the the coffee shop and pool was a bit of a workout (pretty steep decline) but they gladly take you back to the top of the hill when you are done in a comfortable van! Once you put in your self paid $5 at the parking lot they invite you on a stroll down a winding paved driveway that surrounds you with wildlife and beautiful trees flowers and other beautiful plants! It was breathtaking seeing some of the beautiful things they had on the property! Once you are down by the infinity pool you can sample or buy coffee! We had to dip our feet in for an amazing picture to wrap up our first visit to the Big Island! We will definitely come back when we return to the Big Island! read more

The signs are a little confusing but follow them! - the first portion of the trail is a steep downward hill. Pretty and relaxing spot that's a little off the beaten path. $5/pp can be paid at the entrance or when you get to the open air coffee stand. The garden is really lovely, and we appreciated that so many of the plants were labeled. It's free to pick fruit from the garden to enjoy during your visit, so I'd love to visit when more things are ripe. The company that owns Mauka Meadows is a well-known coffee company in Japan & this garden seems to largely cater to Japanese tourists. Best to visit Mauka Meadows on a clear day, so that you can enjoy the gardens and beautiful views. We'll definitely keep this in our back pocket to recommend to friends. read more

Beautiful Japanese Gardens and a coffee plantation. What a combination. When you first enter you would never know it is anything but a Botanical Garden. You follow a path that winds through tropical flowers, trees and bushes which seems like forever. You eventually come out at a wonderful gazebo that has an infinity pool in front and a gorgeous view of the Pacific. You sit down, and a staff member brings you a delicious cup of their home grown Kona coffee. Even on a hot day there is a wonderful cool breeze blowing. If you forget for a moment that this is supposed to be a coffee plantation, you will see why I have rated this 4 stars. The grounds are really well kept and there are many interesting fruit plants along the way. If the fruits are in season, you are welcomed to pick and try. Today we were able to pick some Mac nuts and star fruit. It's really interesting to see how these fruit grow. The coffee side of things is where this place falls short. You walk up to an infinity pool at the bottom of the gardens and you are greeted by a staff member with a small sample of their private reserve. It's ok, nothing amazing. There is no education on how they grow or make their coffee, or any other talk. It's unfortunate. So if you go in expecting a nice garden and a sample of coffee at the end, you will enjoy this a lot more. If you go in expecting a coffee plantation experience, try one of the other ones in the area. read more

I was staying in a B&B in Holualoa and def wanted to do a coffee farm tour while on Kona. I googled coffee farms and to my great surprise this was just down the road. As the other reviews note, the grounds are impeccable with even an infinity fountain and gazebo on the tour. Wow. But more importantly, I brought their coffee home and it is silken smooth and tasty that is characteristic of Kona coffee (and no strong odor)! The guide indicated they don't distribute their coffee to any retail stores and can only be purchased from the farm or online (or something like that). So it's extra special :) And Holualoa is an absolutely charming quaint breezy enclave on a hill from Kona town and should be visited. read more
