I have been to Bayview Farms in the past and loved the beauty of the landscape and friendly, knowledgeable staff. When on the Big Island and you're a coffee drinker, you must have some 100% Kona Coffee. I had chosen the bold roast in the past and the flavor is delicious. We stopped by here while on a tour to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, and it was such a lovely, enjoyable stop to learn all about coffee! Our tour guide gave us his own tour, so we got learn all about the coffee process from growing to serving. Super cool! They also give you a tasting of their coffee - you can try both a medium and dark roast. We weren't too big of fans of the dark roast, but the medium roast was great. They also sell bags of their coffee as well as fresh banana bread. One of the best parts is the absolutely beautiful view you have of the farm grounds and the ocean while you're doing the coffee tasting. It is so peaceful to just sip your coffee and enjoy the magnificence of nature around you. You'll also get plenty of chances to see geckos running around the farm. They also have nice, clean bathrooms to use (which is always a wonderful gift when you're driving around). Overall, it is such a wonderful stop to enjoy while visiting the Big Island. read more

Ordered some coffee earlier this month. They finally claimed it's shipped but post office tracking says it's waiting for parcel. So don't expect it to show up fast. Used to get their coffee all the time back when it was under $40 a pound. Will update if I ever get it. I think for charging almost $20 to ship a pound they could be faster. A small flat rate USPS box ships for $9.45, guess the rest is "handling" lol. Update: Coffee finally arrived. It was kind of meh compared to the old days. Maybe climate change or the beetles? We came here on a Wasabi Tour. Aaron was a fantastic guide, showing us and identifying plants. I did not know that coffee trees have "cherries" which are harvested for the coffee beans within. He also told us about the "canoe plants" - plants brought to Hawaii, not native to Hawaii but growing here. We saw guava, avocado, banana, hibiscus, white bird of paradise, pineapple and ti plants. We also saw Madagascar geckos which are bright green with red markings. Beautiful! Birds were also nearby, and the golden one escaped my camera's eye, but seeing it in flight was breatht At the gift shop we sampled the medium and dark coffee produced here. We liked both, but purchased Kona medium coffee, which they ground and resealed for us. We also purchased their home made banana bread, made from the bananas grown here. The gentleman serving coffee samples and the young lady who rang up our purchases were friendly and helpful. We also used the bathrooms. They were clean, with soap and water as well as toilet paper. This place is a MUST! You will be blown away with their process, property, and overall high quality of 100% Kona coffee. The staff (Jackie and Eva with special guest pup, Honey) is truly a hoot with their knowledge of the land, how coffee grows, and their love for the company. I loved talking with these ladies and their service was top notch. This visit was the best experience on my Kona trip and hope it will be yours too! I am not a coffee connoisseur but I can spot a good to great cup when I come across it. There are free samples and the coffee wasn't too acidic. I preferred the dark roast to the medium (more fruity, bright, and acidic). The dark roast coffee on the palate was slightly fruity but packed more with the caramel and earthy flavors. The property is stunning and overlooks the ocean one way and the mountain the other way. The free tour was about 20-30 mins and very insightful! The shop houses many local goods and their coffee. They ship but if you visit, definitely take a bag (or more) home with you. Overall, the coffee and views were perfect and when I think of the quality of Kona, I will always think of this place. 10/10 recommend this for your trip read more

A hidden gem amongst the many coffee roasters in the Captain Cook/Kona area. If you call and reserve your free tour in advance, you will skip the bus loads of tourists that are scheduled daily. Thanks to reserving in advance, we were given a private tour of the grounds. Evie, our tour guide, has lived on the island her entire life and she made the coffee harvesting, roasting and distributing process easy to understand! The beautiful view of the bay is unmatched. The coffee cherry (yes, a fruit) is actually very flavorful to eat by itself and the honey-like membrane on the seed (bean) is silky and delicious. This is a great coffee tour for an intro. to the coffee industry, and the single origin Kona Coffee is solid! read more

Bay View is a very nice and small mill/roaster near the Painted Church. It offers a very nice view of the bay (duh), and some really tasty coffee. Because Bay View is smaller and off the beaten path, you don't feel like you're at a touristy or wal-mart-like place. Found this place by chance while on our way down to Pu'uhonua O Honaunau Park. We decided to stop by their shop and take a tour of the farm. The lady walked us through the property. You don't actually see coffee tree orchards, but instead get to see where they mill and pack their coffee. I was pretty clueless to how coffee was made prior to the tour, so it was interesting to see all the equipment and lean about the process. The property is nice to stroll through. There's some pretty cool trees and nice views to see. I can't say this was the most thrilling part of my visit to the Big Island, but it was an enjoyable and educational experience nonetheless. It's also a good place to pick up some Kona coffee and try free samples. read more

If you're heading to Pu`uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park and are a coffee fanatic, then you should stop by Bay View farm. I didn't take the tour (I'd already had one at another farm and didn't need another). The woman running the shop/tasting room was friendly and helpful. They only had two varieties of coffee to taste and I'm not sure they were prepared well--my recollection is that they tasted lukewarm and a little weak. I'm afraid their coffee just didn't stand out to me above all the rest. I did buy half a pound to take home and discovered I liked it better the second time around. It's a nice coffee farm and worth a visit if you're in the area. I just wouldn't go out of one's way. read more

She made us feel special and her tour was super interesting, informative and entertaining!! Whatever they are paying her isn't enough. I had a pretty disappointing experience here. I called ahead to make sure they were offering tours, and the woman said "Yes, all day until 4pm except for lunch from 12-1pm." Excellent, we should arrive by 3pm. We get there and see another group mingling around in the gift shop. We ask the woman at the register if we could get a tour, and she responds "Sorry, the girl left for the day. No tours." Slightly stunned, we said okay and started sampling the coffee. Then another party arrives, which means 3 parties total are in the gift shop, wanting a tour. I guess the woman's hands were tied because she turned us all down. We walked around the grounds a bit but it didn't satisfy my urge to learn about coffee farms. Next time, I guess. I gave 3 stars because I hope this isn't representative of a normal day at Bay View. As far as the coffee goes, extra fancy and french roast were very tasty. The rest were nothing the rave about. read more

On our trip to the big island we tried a lot of coffee and a lot of chocolate covered coffee beans. This was our last coffee stop of this trip and it didn't disappoint! The chocolate peaberries here were the best we tried. We liked them so much we came back to buy more to take back for friends and family. Other coffee farms left us with some grittiness, but these didn't! They must do something differently here. But the coffee and chocolate from this farm was superb and we definitely will check in here next time we are on the island. read more

On the way to the Painted Church and Pu'uhonua O Honaunau. If enough people stop by, they'll close up shop temporarily and show you around the place, for an up-close look at how Kona coffee is milled and made. There isn't an actual coffee orchard on the premises, actually; local farmers bring their crops in, and Bay View takes care of processing. But a few coffee trees dot the property, along with plumeria and other trees. Stand on the back veranda of the shop for the lovely namesake view--it's refreshing when the afternoon rainstorms are sweeping in over the hills, and the breeze is heady and warm. (I'd love to hang a hammock out there and just hang out while it storms.) Samples are offered: the medium roast coffee is delicious black, as is the peaberry; try the chocolate-covered peaberries as well. They do online orders for when you've run out of the supply you bought on-site. read more

Our family stopped at the Bay View Farm by accident, just hopping for a cup of coffee. But we found so much more! The ladies that worked at the farm were so wonderful! They offered us amazing coffee samples, chocolate covered offee beans and honey samples. All which tasted fantastic! (The peaberry coffee was our favorite). They also were so kind to give us hand picked mangos from their mango tree. The hospitality was truly special and we will be back to visit every time we return to the island. Great news Kona coffee lovers, Bayview Farm is back in business! The new owners have spiffed up the tasting room, added a deck and hired wonderful staff. More importantly for those of us who really love Kona coffee they are rebuilding facilities for processing from cherry to bean. Hopefully that means there will soon, once again, be an ample supply of extra fancy 100% Kona MEDIUM roast whole beans. Coffee from other regions benefits from a more robust roast, but for rich, smooth Kona beans medium is the way to go. $40 gets you a full pound of whole beans and for an extra $4 you can get a small sleeve of Bayview's wonderful Macadamia nut butter cookies to go with it. The tasting room is open week-days from 9 to 4 now, with plans to switch to a 7 day week soon. They will also be adding tours and to go cups in the near future. If you only have time to visit 1 coffee producer on the Big Island make it this one so you can try optimally roasted 100% Kona coffee. If you can't make it in person they will ship to you. My husband and I visited Bay View Farm for the second time recently on our trip to the Big Island in March. We stopped in with our two boys this time and enjoyed the sample coffee's in their shop and a nice personal tour of their farm. The property is nice to walk through, not to mention that the view is beautiful! Our kid's enjoyed it also, they are 11 & 14. Just ask for a tour when you arrive, they are nice about showing you around and explaining in detail about how their coffee is made.
