    Coffee with a View

We stopped by here while on a tour to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, and it was such a lovely, enjoyable stop to learn all about coffee! Our tour guide gave us his own tour, so we got learn all about the coffee process from growing to serving. Super cool! They also give you a tasting of their coffee - you can try both a medium and dark roast. We weren't too big of fans of the dark roast, but the medium roast was great. They also sell bags of their coffee as well as fresh banana bread. One of the best parts is the absolutely beautiful view you have of the farm grounds and the ocean while you're doing the coffee tasting. It is so peaceful to just sip your coffee and enjoy the magnificence of nature around you. You'll also get plenty of chances to see geckos running around the farm. They also have nice, clean bathrooms to use (which is always a wonderful gift when you're driving around). Overall, it is such a wonderful stop to enjoy while visiting the Big Island.

    Becoming cherries on coffee tree

We came here on a Wasabi Tour. Aaron was a fantastic guide, showing us and identifying plants. I did not know that coffee trees have "cherries" which are harvested for the coffee beans within. He also told us about the "canoe plants" - plants brought to Hawaii, not native to Hawaii but growing here. We saw guava, avocado, banana, hibiscus, white bird of paradise, pineapple and ti plants. We also saw Madagascar geckos which are bright green with red markings. Beautiful! Birds were also nearby, and the golden one escaped my camera's eye, but seeing it in flight was breatht At the gift shop we sampled the medium and dark coffee produced here. We liked both, but purchased Kona medium coffee, which they ground and resealed for us. We also purchased their home made banana bread, made from the bananas grown here. The gentleman serving coffee samples and the young lady who rang up our purchases were friendly and helpful. We also used the bathrooms. They were clean, with soap and water as well as toilet paper. Loved visiting this farm!

Wonderful small coffee farm with personal informative tours! Totally worth the stop, not to mention superior coffee.

    Gorgeous view of the bay.

A hidden gem amongst the many coffee roasters in the Captain Cook/Kona area. If you call and reserve your free tour in advance, you will skip the bus loads of tourists that are scheduled daily. Thanks to reserving in advance, we were given a private tour of the grounds. Evie, our tour guide, has lived on the island her entire life and she made the coffee harvesting, roasting and distributing process easy to understand! The beautiful view of the bay is unmatched. The coffee cherry (yes, a fruit) is actually very flavorful to eat by itself and the honey-like membrane on the seed (bean) is silky and delicious. This is a great coffee tour for an intro. to the coffee industry, and the single origin Kona Coffee is solid!

We were on our way to two step and realized we didn't drink any coffee that day. Quickly did a google search to find this place. We are glad we found this place! Last year we went to a big coffee farm that is more commercialized. This place had just the right amount of commercialization. We sampled their medium and dark roasts. Got two pounds of their medium roast. Got some random soaps & butter spreads as well. Better priced than the other farm that we went to last year.

Bay View is a very nice and small mill/roaster near the Painted Church. It offers a very nice view of the bay (duh), and some really tasty coffee. Because Bay View is smaller and off the beaten path, you don't feel like you're at a touristy or wal-mart-like place. You're free to roam around, and impromptu tours are offered, if you're interested.

Wonderful stop along our tour. The farm is beautiful, coffee delicious and such a friendly visit with the owner in the gift shop.

At a transitional point in my life after some major changes, I discovered their Forest Bathing (Shinrin-Yoku) experience. As a first-timer, I was blown away--it felt deeply spiritual and cleansing, with guided invitations to slow down, breathe in the cool forest air, listen to the birds and rustling leaves, and connect mindfully with the ancient trees and vibrant ecosystem. I highly recommend this for anyone seeking personal growth, healing, or simply a reset amid life's junctors. Our guide, Bri, was exceptional--knowledgeable, intuitive, and truly essential to unlocking the full magic of the experience. Request her if you can! For visitors to Hawai'i, don't miss this hidden gem on the uplands of the Big Island. It's a serene contrast to the beaches, showcasing the island's diverse, restorative natural side. As a lucky Holualoa resident, I'm excited to explore more offerings, especially the Sound Bath Meditation Journey, tree-planting volunteer opportunities, and Bri's new Exploring Within: A Music & Movement Journey in Nature. p.s. make sure you use their natural mosquito spray before heading out!

This place is definitely up in the clouds and gets really cold. There are a variety of tours that are offered and I ended up taking a hike and a sound bath. The hike was about a mile long and it looped around the cloud forest, so there's no way you can get lost. They are still actively working to plant trees and they have volunteer opportunities on the weekends for locals which I think it's a great option. This is such a peaceful and amazing way to learn about the history of the island along with ways to protect the trees and other plants that are being planted there. In addition to the hiking, there is also birdwatching and there's also a sound bath that is offered. I ended up doing the sound bath and it was just absolutely amazing, and it was really amazing right after the hike. I highly recommend both of these activities and to try to do them back to back. Both are such a relax and experience and it's also helping to reclaim the natural Kona world from deforestation.

The color of Mauna Kea with the moon shining on it was so magical all around us. There were some clouds that cleared pretty well by the end of our star gazing. We were the last ones up there so it got dark enough to see more than you'd expect with the moon. Jeff, our awesome tour guide, used a laser pointer to help us see the constellations we usually can't back at home. The images on the digital telescope like nebulas, the moon & star clusters were an amazing addition to have as keepsakes. My husband and I felt he made the tour a great balance of learning and fun. He had the group feeling like family before we even left from the pickup lot. Things to consider: I do recommend following the moons cycles booking this tour/your trip if this is especially important for you to see as many stars as possible. The sunset and views of the observatory's make it awesome anyways :) I struggled with altitude sickness around 12,000 ft. Jeff had made sure to let us know beforehand if we experienced any issues to speak up. I was hesitant as I know it would mean turning the whole tour around, but some tingling turned to dizziness and then a brief fainting. He immediately stopped the bus and helped ground me and make sure I was completely okay & coherent before letting me know our options for the tour. We made it up to the top with 2 more (included in tour) stops and I felt better with each one having more time to acclimate :) Thank you Jeff!! You handled this so professionally and I appreciate your check-ins for the rest of the trip. It's cold even with parka and gloves. It's so worth packing warm shoes and layers. The bus had ac and heat so that was great! Do it if you can! Awe-inspiring! Such an unreal environment that makes you wonder about so many things. Just take the precautions seriously, move slow and breathe deep.

Una gave us a ton of cool information about the farm, the types of plants, history of the island, native plant qualities, and so on. The whole tour and tasting took ~2 hours, but I could see it going longer or shorter depending on the number of people visiting and the number of questions about the farm. Normal tours are usually 14-16 people total. Our kids (ages 10 and 11) loved the tour. There were two other 9 year olds and a couple other older kids on the tour, and they all had a good time. I could definitely see some kids being a bit bored by the end, but I think the history they learn here will stick with them, so maybe some boredom isn't too bad :) We ended by sitting on the lanai and having a tasting of chocolates, some fruit, and coffee-- all of which were amazing. You have the chance to purchase these before leaving, and be sure to do that because you can't buy any of these anywhere else, even online. By the end of the tour, we felt like Una and Leon were part of our family. I highly recommend this tour, if only because it's local and not tied to any larger farms or corporations. You can ask as many questions as you like, and maybe by the end you'll feel like family too :) Pro tips: - The mosquitoes are no joke, at least near the parking lot (they seemed fine everywhere else). Be sure to wear long pants (it's cooler up that side of the mountain) and apply the mosquito spray that Leon provides when you arrive! - Give yourself an extra 15 minutes to find the farm. Google Maps will send you to the wrong place, but Apple Maps seemed to do well. Either way, follow the directions sent by Leon and Una and you'll be fine. - The road up to the farm is janky, but totally doable with 2-wheel drive. Just take your time.
