Hello Dan, Dr Daniel A Pike DVM I'm contacting you because of the rude experience I had this morning with your receptionist around 8:55a. First words out of her mouth were, "WHAT are you here for?" You and I both know that a receptionists first phrase should have "hello" and "help you" in it. Not to mention the gentleman behind rolling his eyes with me at her. Then his eyes got as big as plates because of what she did. Your receptionist and another lady came to make excuses and blame comcast for them not answering calls while I was sitting in your parking lot. The two of them came back out again to tell me that Rick was not coming out. My reply was, "who is Rick, I didn't have a appointment with Rick, I have an appointment with the owner." Your receptionist replied," Ohh, dr Dan is not here today." Great, your receptionist who made the appointment(5/7/25@11:37a) with you is now telling me you are not here. My reply after all of that was, "well, you better find someone who is." I next watched your manager, front manager who came out to tell me that she can make an appointment with you and that she, "isn't a doctor." I said, "that's obvious, you're not wearing the right clothes." She then defended bad actions and doesn't want me harassing her receptionist. My reply, "You go ahead and make that appointment and I'll contact him(you) about this." The front manager then said she knows the truth about comcast and I'm the one lying. I laughed at her, "so you know that Daniel wanted a place to park in the shade so he bought the building next door." The building next door that comcast, back when comcast was a phone company that covered Dover, signed a deal with the ower of that building so comcast can't be kicked out of Dover. To all the doubters out there. I can say it because I was there. I watched Daniel park in the shade by the building and asked if he wasn't worried about getting towed. He replied, no, I'm not! For you to not be worried then you'd have to own it..... He got a smile from ear to ear. That is when their(Dover Area Animal Hospital) phone problems started, and have continued for over two decades! They knew it would be a problem and did it anyway. Their excuses are exactly that, excuses. I see you and only you, outside, because of those two and there constant problem causing. Maybe David, in a pinch. When I'm at Sunday's I hear good things about David and you. Your receptionists and their manager, people have a lot to say about them. I don't care if it's a woman or a man or something in between, as long as they do their job correctly. I miss your mother being there. This would never have happened. Our first experience with the company was in the early 80's, for our goats. David and you have a great reputation around here. We have been going to Dover Area Animal Hospital for over 25 years with our pets. I have always been happy. However, I noticed on my last bill that we are now being charge $5 waste disposal fee for syringe. We have 4 animals getting vaccinations so that is $20 added onto bill. I think this is ridiculous charge added onto bills I dont see this charge with our horse vet or at my own doctors office. read more

I have 3 pets who I took to DAH for almost 10 years. I've always paid my bill, never gave staff or Dr any issues to cause tension or problems. I took one of my pets for a sick visit recently and my appt was at 5pm (they close at 7pm). It was after 6 when i was checking out for the day. There was an issue with my fiancée's Care Credit card when they tried to run it to pay my balance of $230.00. After no luck, the girl trying went and asked another employee for help. They tried again to use the card with no luck. I said I didn't have money or a card on me to use. I said I had cash at home, it had been a long day, I had 1 sick pet to take home and 3 to feed etc. It was almost the end of their work day, I asked could I bring the money in the next morning, maybe giving my fiancee a chance to work out whatever issue there was so I could go back and use the card, if not I would just pay the bill. I was told no, they would really like the money today. I just looked at her. I had only been home all day to grab my pet and take him to the vet, I hadn't eaten, it was in the last hour of their working day and no guarantee i could do the round trip in the time that was left and make it back the the Vet before closing etc. I was EXTREMELY INSULTED AND FURIOUS at having stood at 1 of 2 checkouts with a sick cat for around 20-30 minutes, holding up other clients at checkout & while they sit there & stare angrily at me. Then being bluntly told that they would like payment today before closing. They can kiss my ***!!! All over a measly $230. Well, I RUSHED HOME, got money to pay my bill in full, RUSHED BACK BEFORE CLOSING.....and paid the balance due and arranged the transfer of my pets records to a facility that hopefully will not treat me that way after 10 YEARS OF TAKING MY BUSINESS THERE. My new Vet office is further from my house than DAH, but I happily make the drive to be treated decently. read more

Dr Dave is wonderful. He cares about your fur baby and only performs necessary tests thus saving his patients from spending unnecessary money. The staff are always helpful and pleasant to interact with. I moved to the other side of town. While there are closer vets, I will drive the 30 min to continue care with Dr Dave. read more

Dr. Amy is slightly condescending and after my dog had surgery she didn't even bother to check his incisions to ensure they were healing. She then went to remove fluid from his one incision and her and her staff left him leaking fluid and blood and didn't even bandage it up; and offered us gauze for our ride home. Dr. Amy also laughed at the fact that she "put 4 holes in him" about the removal of fluid. I personally do not find my dog being ill to be funny at all. I would not recommend Dr. Amy or Dover Animal to anyone. Very unprofessional. Not to mention waiting over 15 minutes in the waiting area and another 25 mins in the room before we were even seen. read more

We been going to this place for along time as well as my parents and grandparents. We had a very sick dog. Called them on a Saturday for a sedative to get my dog to a vet. Never return the phone call and called back before they closed with nothing. Then on Monday we called them again when they open no call back. Plus another 4 calls up to 1:30 to get a vet to give us something. Finally after calling and not being nice we got something. But we had to call them 6 times to get a vet to get us something to get my dog to them. My dog passed away on his way there. As there staff tried to get him out of the car they almost dropped him. Dover Area Pet Hospital provides good care. They have multiple vets working and a large building with many exam rooms. Their prices are reasonable for cat care. I compared their prices to other vet offices in the area and they seem the most reasonable for cats. Also since there are multiple vets on staff, you can usually get an appointment within 48 hours of calling and they keep a few emergency slots open each day for the unexpected. Minus a star because the last time I was there' there was a significant time delay between getting my cat back from minor emergency surgery and being able to pay the bill. Considering I had to wait 30 min for my cat's anesthesia to wear off, I should not be waiting more to be able to pay the bill. read more

Very very disappointed in this clinic. When the vet entered the room without introducing himself - strike one; When handed the records from the ER Vet and he comments that he "likes to see what they charge!" - strike two; When he says that he glanced at the records and didn't look at the x-rays because he is not a "computer techie". - strike three!!! This was our second request for an emergency visit of which they don't have contrary to their website. While our two year old pup would not have had a different outcome because of her ultimate diagnosis of aggressive cancer, the experience with this vet was less than professional! My mom was a doctor at this hospital for years, and left to open her own practice. She does not see large animals and I raised a calf this summer, Dr. Dan who does not do much large animal work anymore, was super kind in responding to my phone call and even was willing to go out of his way to see "Ivy". We stopped using Dover Area Animal Hospital for veterinary services years ago after receiving a second opinion from another local vet hospital for a condition one of our dogs at the time had. DAAH said there was nothing that could be done for it. The other vet hospital recommended a solution which worked and cured the issue. Still used them for boarding needs when the time arose but that won't happen again either after our last visit. Extremely slow check-in and check-out processes and very poor communication between the staff and customer. They did not have updated vaccine information for our dog and never asked for it or told us that at check-in. We didn't find out until check-out when the bill was $70 more than we planned and we asked why. They were more than happy to tell us then that his vaccine records were not updated in their system so they charged us the hospital stay rate and kept him isolated during the entire 7-night stay. When asked why they didn't tell us this at any point leading up to and including check-in, the reply was "Well, we assumed you wouldn't have had any other boarding option so...." We had all the paperwork to show he's up-to-date on his vaccines but didn' realize they still require a K-9 influenza vaccine. According to our current vet that is no longer a required vaccine. We would not recommend DAAH for any services at all as it appears they are only interested in one thing. Our opinion, check out their other reviews on Yelp and steer clear of this business. read more

We took our 11 month old dog their 6 weeks ago ahe was in heat we told them that she was possibly pregnant and we wanted to get her spayed due her young age and that the male was her brother from the same litter. They vet told us they could but we had to wait 6 weeks because she was still bleed from the heat. They said they would abort the pregnancy if she was pregnant but he didn't think she was. that was $70 for that visit and they scheduled the surgery for 6 weeks out. we bring her in and after her being there for 3 hours I get a call from the same vet telling us he would not perform the surgery because she was pregnant. Then he said he would have never had us wait. straight up lied about what he said in the last appointment. read more

Both Dr. Dan & Dr. Dave literally saved the life of our 2 year old Doberman Pincher. The dog still has a rough couple days ahead of him. But if they didn't act as quickly as they did we definitely would of lost our dog. Very caring and compassionate veterinarian hospital. I have visited Dover Animal Hospital with my dog Brandy since she was a puppy (now 12), and I bring her along with my husbands dog to visit yearly for their vaccinations. In recent years I have been less happy with the care and service here, but I chose to give them another try as they were over due for shots and Covid is making it difficult to schedule appointments with many offices. While the appointment we had on Tuesday the 21st was quick and easy (they came to the car for the dogs and the vet called over the phone to discuss the appointment), the staff at reception were unfriendly, and I was charged twice for the actual appointment. I called later in the week to address the double charge and was told that because my dogs account is under different name than my husbands dogs account I would be charged for two separate appointments, which has never happened in past visits, and I was not informed of when making the appointment. The dogs attended the same appointment at the same time, in the same room for their shots. There is absolutely no reason I should have been charged twice for the appointment which was states on the invoice 48$ for 1 to 2 dogs, but they refuse to remove the extra charge. I started going to DAAH approximately 18 years ago when it was just a small vet office run by Dr's. Dave and Dan, and when they were the most reasonably priced vet I could find Sadly. things have changed and it appears they just got really greedy. They have expanded that small vet office into a huge vet office and expanded their prices as well to pay off that huge building and for profit I'm sure. I have been taking my dog there for grooming for about 7 months. He initially needed bloodwork done because he has anxiety and requires sedation for grooming. That was fine, but at our last grooming I was informed he would need bloodwork done every 6 months to continue getting groomed there. Say what??!!! To the tune of over $300 a pop and his groomings cost $250 a pop!! Highway robbery!! Sadly, we will be taking our pup elsewhere. And will most likely never own another animal because vet care and grooming have become totally unaffordable! One last note...the groomer has zero personality and leaves much to be desired! read more

About two to three months ago our dog got sick. Dr. Dave did tests and diagnosed him with a benign tumor on one of his parathyroid glands. He assured us that after an operation he would be good as new. The surgery was scheduled for about ten days later with an ultrasound the friday before. We go for the ultrasound and there machine was broken. So we got the soonest appointment we could at another facility for his ultrasound. Because of this his surgery got pushed out two more weeks. It was two weeks of hell for our dog. He was at emergency clincs a couple times. Stayed overnight once or twice in lancaster ER. They found that a combination of zofran and 60 mg of cerenia kept him stable enough to eat and drink. we struggled to get the right meds from Dr. dave. After i think three phone calls he reluctantly gave us the meds that were working. He said he "didn't want to over prescribe". I know this isn't at all my area of expertise. But, I can read. A quick search netted me a doseage chart for cerenia. For the life of me I can't understand why he was so insistent on putting our 70 pound dog on the dose for a 10 pound animal. This entire time we had been doing everything we could to keep him eating and drinking. We tried canned dog food, all sorts of meat, baby food and various combinations of these. We happily hand fed him for weeks thinking once his surgery was done he would bounce back to normal. We had found a hospital in Malvern that said they could do his surge read more

Let me say that this review pertains to one of the rabbit doctors only. The others we have worked with and the staff have always been lovely, but we won't darken the door after our experience with this doctor. We have raised bunnies for 7 years and my daughter is heavily into 4H. Their care has always been a priority to us so what happened was new and terrifying and an AWFUL learning experience. A couple of weeks ago my daughter went out to take care of her beloved Flemish Giant, Fudge. Fudge was 7, which was old for such a big bunny. When my daughter picked her up, maggots and blood fell off Fudge's bottom and my daughter understandably became hysterical. We were off to the clinic within minutes. We got there and the nurses and desk ladies were, as always, sweet and kind. When the doc examined Fudge he quickly diagnosed her with flystrike. I had NEVER heard of this! What I quickly learned while sitting there (thanks google) is that big, old bunnies like ours (especially with dewlaps) are prone to it because they are lazy at cleaning the tops of their tails where urine can gather, and their scent glands underneath. So basically, a fly had laid eggs on our bun and they HATCHED and it was horrible. My daughter felt like an utter failure and questioned how on earth she could have missed this. She wipes fuzzy bunny butts on a routine basis, and her hutches are admirably clean...but somehow we MISSED this? We felt (and I still do) like an utter failure of a fur mama. What I have learned, however, is that fly strike can hit and hit hard, and hit even those of use who think we are doing enough, as it hides unseen in the thick fur of bunnies until it's too late (also, as prey animals, buns seldom show symptoms of injury or illness). As my daughter was in tears over her guilt, the Dr. laughed. LAUGHED. LAUGHED at this child who was now standing in front of her first and most beloved bun watching it being eaten by maggots and trying to figure out how she didn't see it or prevent it. The Dr. called later that day and stated our bun had a large wound on her belly that would need to be stitched up, but that he thought she would be fine. He couldn't tell what caused it. We have since searched her hutch and found nothing. But prior to the surgery the staff reported she was eating, drinking, and chilling in her cage...just like always. When I was called to come get her, Fudge was brought to the room wrapped in a towel and barely conscious. It went quickly downhill from there. 1. As he was holding Fudge limply in the air she began POURING out heavily bloodied urine. My daughter gasped and cried out and AGAIN THE DOCTOR LAUGHED. I asked if that was even remotely normal. His answer was something to the affect of "Yeah, well she had a lot done down there." 2. Next as he laid her on her side there was a maggot. Now, I have since learned that maggots have a hatching cycle over a few days. However, I was not comfortable bringing her home if she was still fighting this cycle and I said so to the Dr. His response was something to the effect of, "Well, you don't know how many we have gotten off her already." Ok. So this is my point exactly. YOU are the professionals at this. I told him AGAIN I didn't think she was ready to come home. He said she was fine to go home and we were moving in the right direction and he would see us in a week to start laser treatment for the wound. He did say that he couldn't promise anything, which we totally understood. 3. I repeatedly expressed concern that she was so sleepy, but he insisted it was fine. 4. She never fully regained consciousness and died in her sleep next to my daughter. All to the tune of $770. He should have euthanized her on the first day and educated us on flystrike. Instead, he mocked my daughter's grief, took nearly $1000 to perpetuate an animal's suffering, and sent it out the door to die during the night, right next to my little girl. This is the same man who said to me in front of my kids that he hoped he died by 65, as life after that age was no longer worth living. read more

We have gone to Dover for over 20 years for two of our dogs. When we first started going here with our first dog; it was great! They grew and got bigger and things changed. Service was not nearly as good and during an appointment one time; the vet bragged about how much money they were making on a particular medication they gave our dog (shot for allergies). We had a terrible experience recently with our second dog, mis-diagnosis more than once, mis-communication from them in regards to a scheduled surgery and a procedure that they did that should never have been done. We recently had to put our dog down and we feel that this happened sooner than it should have because of decisions they made. We would never go back. read more

But guess what? They still took her in right away and did whatever they could to make sure our cat was well taken care of. I've always had a good experience here until recently. Without notifying any of their clients ahead of time, a policy was arbitrarily changed which requires a yearly heart worm blood test in order to continue a monthly pill. With vaccines being required in the state of PA, it's nice to only have to put my dog through the anxiety of a vet visit once per year. Now, in order to continue a monthly heart worm prevention pill, I need to take her back a second time within a year. When making policy changes such as this, it would be nice if they implemented them at the next visit and not immediately with no warning. read more

I was recommended to come to this vet. Which I was told Dr. Dave was awesome. However, I got Dr. Laura, and she was a decent vet, she was very knowledgeable. However, the reason for the 2 star review is because this place is all about the money. I have cats and they were ill and didn't get better from the medicine they were prescribed called and went to get additional medicine and I was charged $90 dollars. After already paying $500 for services and medication that didn't work. Thinking its a follow up and the before method didn't work you would give a returning customer a discount (or at least I know my actual vet would have but their office didn't have anything available) would not recommend this vet unless your willing to pay an arm and a leg for their services. read more

I take my dogs here for everything they need. I always check around for pricing when they need shots or medication and Dover Animal Hospital is always the best value around. I usually wait about 10 minutes before being called back and I've always had a great experience. I don't have a loyalty to one doctor over another because every one that I've seen has been great.
