Dr. Kevin is great and provides wonderful care to our cats. All of the staff are kind, caring, professional, and show great patience with our cats who are less than joyful about being at the vet. Patton Vet is about 30 minutes from our house so there are tons of closer vet offices, but we love Patton so much that we are more than happy to make the drive. Last June, we sadly had to put our 21 year old baby boy kitty to sleep because his body was worn out. Everyone at Patton was so kind and supportive of us during this difficult time. They gave us plenty of time to say goodbye and even followed up with us a few days later to see if we needed anything. read more

For 16 years I have taken my beloved dog to Patton. I always felt they were a little expensive, however, I wanted her to have the best care I could provide. Sadly on May 29th I had to take her in and she crossed the rainbow bridge. I will say that the vet who was assisting me was amazing and very kind. Here's why I'm upset. I wanted to bring her remains home as soon as they were available. I called two times after May 29th being told both times that the company who returns the remains does that on Tuesdays and Fridays. I thought it was really odd that it had been 5 weeks and still no word So I called them today only to find out that they have had her there since June 6th. Now, whether or not you think that's an important thing is up to you but I wanted to bring our girl home. I was devastated and I'm still mourning the loss of my soulmate. Shame on you Patton for telling me twice that she wasn't there when in fact she was. It's already been an emotional roller coaster and I think that this is cruel. If you are so busy that you have people who can't take a moment to assist from the day you bring your pet in until the day you no longer have them, then hire more people. For what these businesses charge, I would have expected better treatment. read more

Our 18 month old dog went into Patton Veterinary Hospital to be neutered and have entropion surgery. We dropped him off at 7:30am on 05/07/2024, and his surgery was in the morning. I received a phone call at 12:30pm that he was out of surgery and resting. The vet (Kevin Schmidt) said they had given him a sedative because he woke up irritable and dysphoric. I was told we could pick him up at 3:30pm. My husband picked him up and brought him home. When he got home, he was very lethargic and unsteady on his feet. It took us a few minutes to get him out of the car because he would not get up. He did go potty once out of the car. Once inside, he laid down and slept for an hour or so. We were able to get him up once or twice to go outside, although he did not want to try and go potty. We noticed a saucer sized spot of blood from his sac where he was laying. He drank some water and laid back down. The last time we checked on him before bed was around 9:30pm. He was laying down, but responded to my touch and voice. I checked on him at 1:00am, and he was gone. There was no physical indication of what could have happened. Patton was not open, so we called Pets Emergency in Lancaster, and told them we would be bringing him to be cremated. We asked Pets if they could do an autopsy, and they did not. They recommended either our vet completing one, and offered to give me a number to a practice in Philadelphia that completes them. Fast forward to the next day, my husband called Patton at 8:00am to let them know our dog had passed, and the receptionist told my husband they had received notice from Pets Emergency that our dog had passed, and said that the vet would be in contact. We did not expect to have to wait to hear from the vet- we expected a phone call first thing in the morning. No one called me until 3:00pm that afternoon, after I called and messaged in wondering why no one had called me. The practice manager called me and asked me what happened, had me walk her through the series of events. I wondered if he was given too much anesthesia, if he was sent home too early, etc. According to bloodwork that was done, he was a healthy dog, and cleared for surgery. The practice manager told me the vet would be calling me. The vet called me at 4:00pm that day. The vet was not remorseful, he did not explain would could have happened, he did not give options to complete a necropsy, he even said they would not do one. I had so many questions, and just wanted to know that Patton had done everything right and that maybe losing our dog was a freak thing, and a tragic thing that we would not get answers for. He did offer to refund the entire amount of the bill we had paid. During our call, the vet basically went over the same post surgery notes he had given me the previous day. I spoke to the practice manager again after speaking with the vet because I didn't feel that he had explained his side of the story well, he didn't make me feel that he cared at all. To him, it was just something that happens sometimes, and that there is a risk with anesthesia. The vet called me back a second time, and while he did approach the conversation a bit differently, I was still left with unanswered questions and feeling that he was not going to take responsibility for what had happened. A few days later, we found out from a neighbor that they had taken their Boxer into Patton 2 years ago for a routine procedure that required anesthesia. They experienced the same tragic loss- their dog came home from Patton, and died sometime overnight. Our neighbor stated that the vet treated the situation as if it was not uncommon- they experienced the same reaction and response as we did. We also found out through a woman that my husband works with that their Rottweiler went into Patton for a routine procedure that required anesthesia. When they picked up their dog, he was not acting normal and much like our dog when my husband picked him up. In both cases, Patton assured that the dogs were ready to be released. According to the woman my husband works with, they had to rush their Rottweiler to another vet later that night to be treated for anesthesia overdose. Luckily, they did not lose their dog. The last time I spoke with the practice manager was 05/15/2024. I called her because she had called me and left a message stating that our refund check was going to be mailed. Although I was thankful for that, I did tell her about the experience our neighbor had with Patton. I told her that there is something going on, and that this is not right, dogs are dying, and according to her, dogs passing away post anesthesia is very rare. read more

I take all my animals here and all the vets and staff are amazing... we have cats, a dog, Guinea pigs and rats and the veterinarians are excellent with them all! My eldest and favored rat, Betty, has literally been operated on by Dr. Spencer 4 times, with a 5th scheduled, and I wouldn't trust anyone else with this previous girl. Highly recommend. read more

They have hired new people and it is like I don't exist. Snotty attitudes, no care for you or your pet, and literally dismissed everything I said. Personally I found Patton Veterinary Hospital to be a well run establishment. I brought my cat in for her first annual checkup where she also received two shots. My phone call to check in when I arrived was answered promptly and I was escorted to a room with my pet. A technician came in to ask preliminary questions and told me the vet would be in momentarily. Dr. Kevin came in and examined my cat and asked questions. He also was patient in answering my questions. He handled my cat with delicacy and the technician was right there to help hold my cat while Dr. Kevin gave her two shots. All went well and my cat will be going back next year for her next annual visit. Everyone at the hospital was professional and courteous. read more

If you're a new pet-parent - go here! I recently brought home a puppy and this is my first one. I took him in yesterday for a check up just to make sure everything is fine. Obviously, I couldn't go in with COVID-19, but they still provided exceptional service!! I called when I got there to let them know we had arrived and they sent someone out to get his paperwork. Then they sent someone else out to get my little guy. Once inside, Dr. Kevin called me to tell me everything he was seeing in the exam. He also knew I was a new puppy mom so he gave me plenty of tips and tricks!! I also sent in a long list of questions and he took the time to answer all of them and reassure me in what's best with a little puppy! I am a new resident of PA and needed to find a vet asap for my sick kitten ( Cat-Dog). Patton had a coupon in the paper so I gave them a try. All I can say is WOW, what an amazing caring team! Everyone from the front desk to the veterinarian were amazing! You can tell that they genuinely care for their animals and it's not all about making money. The place was clean, homey and they had a separate entrance for the animals. Very organized, they even had a little schedule out front letting you know which veterinarians on duty and time status. We didn't have to wait long at all and I think the services were reasonably priced. Unfortunately, my Cat-Dog passed within the week ( there was nothing more that could've been done for him). :( I called Patton and they cremated him for me. They even went as far as making a clay paw print for me, a lock of his fur with a little poem. I have had pets ( rats to rabbits) all my life and have never seen such compassion from any of my past veterinarian care givers. Someone called me to personally offer their condolences, offered a support group, an online memorial and the veterinarian even sent me a hand written card ( with an orange tabby cat just like my Cat-Dog) offering her condolences. :) I will definitely be taking my other cats to them too. Decent health care for my cat, Tilly...although quite pricey. However, I began to receive text messages, phone calls and postcards concerning my stepdaughters cat whom I never owned, nor had it lived in my house for the past 4 years. After MULTIPLE harassing communications, my husband called the office and explained the situation. 25 minutes on the phone, providing them with my stepdaughters phone number and contact information. 2 days later I received ANOTHER PHONE CALL. Again, I explain that my husband had called and supposedly straightened this out. I was very rudely and bluntly told that I could not be taken off of the account. The receptionist said she had no knowledge that my husband had called and continue to ARGUE with me about MY responsibility for the cat. She tried to over talk me until voices were raised. I explained AGAIN to her that i have ONE CAT named Tilly, not 2 cats! There was no money owed and yet this office STALKED my phone to ask me questions about this cat, along with sharing needless information about the ongoing healthcare that was required. Again, 2 days afterward, I received ANOTHER TEXT MESSAGE concerning the cat. Veterinary services should be provided when I CALL THE OFFICE, since we pay the bill. A few gentle reminders are fine, but this was rude and harassing, at best. If you get your pet started with this office, be prepared to be harassed every few months, via mail, phone and text. (I'm glad I didnt provide an email address) Also, my husband made the decision to de-claw our cat. The vet agreed. Needless to say, the vet faired better than our cat. ($$) I would rather prefer a vet who is more interested in the overall health and well being of the pet instead of trying to set up the next money making appointment. The de-claw should be a no- no... and you should be keenly aware of the after effects to your cat. Wish I would have known. read more

We have used Patton Vet since we moved here in 1998. Our most recent rescue must have had a particularly hard life on the streets before we got him,as he bites when he is startled or feels threatened. We have boarded him twice with Patton Vet, since we got him. They were great! They listened to our concerns, and made sure Paddington was safe and happy the whole time. Of course he was crazy happy to see us when we picked him up, but you could also tell he was at ease there. Boarding prices are reasonable, and peace of mind is worth its weight in gold! read more

My husband and I were using an in home vet for our dog since we had had him. We live on a farm so that was just the most convenient thing for us at the time. Our dog had an emergency last summer where I frantically drove him to the closest vet to our home. Luckily it was Patton. They preformed an emergency stomach surgery on him. They were working on him until 11 pm. They saved his life without ever seeing him before. They are now our full time vet and we love them. The Vet that examined Maverick and Goose a few weeks ago was very kind to answer any questions we had and we felt very welcome and comfortable with our dogs being cared for by her. Today, the tech that administered our dog's booster vaccines was very accommodating and had offered to administer the shots in our car, because one of our dogs being a little grumpy in social settings. This place is great. They are extremely friendly, fair prices, and seem to really have your pets best interest at heart. They followed up after the appointment to check on my girl and provide a nice web-based dashboard for keeping all the necessary info in one place. I seriously would have given them 5 stars but I can't get an appointment when I need one. They have accepted way too many patients so if you need an appointment for something you will likely have to go somewhere else or allow your pet to suffer while you wait weeks to get in. I cannot say enough about the treatment we received from the doctors and the entire staff. We brought our sick Boxer in and they gave her absolutely the best care I could imagine. Unfortunately, they had to deliver bad news. However, it was done with such kindness and compassion that it eased the blow while giving us all the information we needed. The doctors treat their patients and owners well. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. They also understood our situation and handled us with care. They had our girl for a week and everyone knew who she was. That gave me the confidence to know that they all care about their jobs and their patients. I have an approx 13 yr old PomChi. I went to Patton for a second opinion for a mass on her paw and they will forever be the only opinion I seek from now on. From the handkerchief they presented Coco in the waiting room (with a calming pheromone spray as they saw her nervous shaking and it calmed her within 5 minutes) to Dr Kevin providing options, monetary options and the projected outcomes so I was able to make an educated decision, I am now a loyal Patton-ite! We have taken our furry babies there since 1995. I cannot say enough good about them. The doctors, the nurses and the staff are all caring individuals. The best thing about them is that they are all knowledgeable and they put their patients first. They are honest with you and that means a lot when you have a sick baby. You know they are on your side, but am very happy that they put the furbabies first. We recently had to put our 17 year old kitty to sleep and Dr. Kevin was absolutely the best. This place came highly recommended to us and for good reason. Our dog has met with each of the vets there and all are top notch! The owner saw our pup for his first vet visit. Rather than scare him by putting him up on the table and jumping right in, he got down on the floor with our pup and played with him to build his trust. He then did the exam from the floor until it was absolutely necessary to introduce him to the table. All of the staff are so caring and really love animals. Another bonus is that when just getting booster shots, a full vet visit is not required. It's a nurse's visit and costs about half the price. They do also take pet insurance. Finally, they will call to check up on the patient after a day or so. I highly recommend! read more

The time, care, and compassion they have for your fur babies as well as you is heartwarming. And the fact that they have 2 separate sides for dogs and cats is wonderful. I have been using Patton Vet for nearly 10 years. I have owed pets for 30 years and have used a number of vets in the York area. This group is by far the very best example of what a vet office should be. They are knowledgeable, compassionate and always there for your pet. The staff is well informed and very helpful. In response to the other customer who felt they had to wait to long. There have been the rare occasions where they have run late. They have called and let me know when possible. I have also been one of those customers who had a pet emergency and they fit me in, forcing other appts to run late, I am sorry. But thankful they were there for us. I do not find there prices any higher than other vets in the area. But like everything else you get what you pay for. They are the best at what they do. read more

Without fail, every time I have an appointment the doctor is running behind schedule and last night was no exception. Thirty minutes behind schedule. After sitting there for 20 minutes, I was asked if I would like to reschedule my appointment! Why? So I could come back the next day and wait even longer? My dog eventually saw the doctor, for a total of 7 minutes and $169. After putting up with this poor service and extremely high prices, I will now take my dog somewhere else where my time and business is valued. read more
