I recently visited Dover Hall for the first time for a company party and I was blown away both by the opulence of the interior and the professionalism of the staff. For a 32,000+ square foot mansion (that was originally built as a single family private home) the space is immaculately and meticulously clean and maintained to the highest standard. I did not see a single speck of dust, no cobwebs on the soaring ceilings, or stain on any upholstery. The mansion also did not feel austere or cavernous despite its size; on the contrary, it is absolutely bursting with some of the most beautiful, unique, and at times strange but wonderful decor. For example, the game room has both billiards as well as an extensive and exotic big game taxidermy collection, whereas the adjacent two-story library boasts a hand carved fireplace and a spiral wrought iron staircase. I spent most of my evening exploring every room and trying to take in as much as possible. The multitude of staff who serviced our event were both warm in their interactions as well as discreet when necessary. The in-house catering was also very good. We had a tortellini station, a raw bar, breads and spreads, as well as passed hors d'oeuvres and a dessert station, and I enjoyed everything I tried. My only regret is that Dover Hall doesn't seem to do open house hours or guided tours, because I would love to be able to return and see more of this remarkable building. read more

My son had his wedding here. The premises were breath taking, especially when you turn into the driveway and make your way into the property. It was magical. The food was great. All the guests came up to me and raved about the food. I have 2 items that disappointed me... The staff started clearing our tables of our water glasses and cocktails 1 hour before the end of the evening! Each time I got up to dance I came back to no more water or my drink. Then at the end of the evening I had to retrieve my car from the dark parking lot. There was no lighting along the walkway to the lot nor in the parking lot. A safety concern that I hope the venue addresses in the near future. read more

I attended a private party at this amazing venue. The hosts had set up different experiences in many of the beautiful rooms. I'm sure much of the success was due to the hosts' outstanding event planning, but the location added an unforgettable wow factor. A wedding and reception here would be absolutely breathtaking! I dropped a star because the dinner wasn't very flavorful at all (fish, chicken, Mac-and-cheese). The appetizers (cheeses, crackers, chicken biscuit), on the other hand, were delicious. And the lemon drop martini was so refreshing! Also, one of the guys who appeared to be security was creeping me out a bit, but no problems occurred so no complaints. read more

This place deserves way beyond 5 stars. The drive to get here is great. Short quick drive from Mechanicsville. The looks of this mansion when you first pull up can not be stated with words b/c its so magnificient looking. So sweet!! We took our little one there for her 5th birthday. That day at Dover Hall they were having a princess party. We got there and I took a ton of pics. They had plastic tea sets set out for each girl at the different tables. So cool. We met Cinderella, Aeriel and Elena of Avalor. All dressed so beautifully. They stood in a group and let us get pics of our kids with them. We had a delicious lunch. Think they served the kids mac and cheese, nuggets and fries. They served the adults a fancy salad, had a carving beef station, stuffed mushrooms, mini crabcakes, string beans, rolls etc.. They even had desserts. Pies, mousse, tarts. Incredible. All the food was fantastic. They had wine for the adults but you paid extra for it but it was too pricey for my taste. They got individual pics with Elena in a room upstairs if you so desired. That was cool. The girls got princess lessons so they did twirls and ballet moves. Too cute. Then they got all the girls on the stairs and when we went there were about 50 young girls. The princesses and all the little girls sat on the stairs, princesses were scattered throughout and they sang Disney princess songs. My daughter was star stuck. At the end of the day she was pooped but said she had a great time and wanted to go back. She also said, "I met real princesses." LOL. I LOVE IT. I'D DEF GO BACK EVEN IF IT IS $45/PERSON. Dover Hall is an absolutely stunning setting. My daughter had a wedding event last week and one of the owners, Jeff, and events manager, Eileen, could not have been kinder or more helpful- truly taking care of RVA bridal parties. The grand hall, the staircases, and the bride's dressing room were all fantastic. The bride's dressing room was large and airy with large windows, mirrors and chandelier - definitely a setting to excite a bride and set a princess mood. One of the bedrooms has a window seat with white and golden pillows that is beautiful for pictures. The pastoral landscape is inspiring and beautiful. I do not mean to go on too long, but I have also been a corporate officer and could picture a productive and fun retreat in this setting so close to Richmond yet removed from day to day. A cozy bar area, breakout rooms (I would want the windowed 'conservatory' for my team...) and the wide outdoors for games would be terrific. Just cannot say enough thanks to the management staff for the great event they gave us. read more

One word: Magical! If you want an experience like no other go check out Dover Hall. I attended recent wine dinner OMG amazing food, ambiance and service. How often do you get personal attention from the owners. Both Jeff and Chad genuinely care. They overheard me speaking about my bad knee, so when it can down to selecting me a room for the 2 nights I stayed. They secured one for me on 2nd floor close to all the action and activities. Guys step up and bring your lady friends here. It won't disappoint. We will be back for another wine dinner for sure!!!! read more

Driving through the property and up to Dover Hall was a beautiful sight. And the interior was no less - absolutely stunning. Very clean, beautifully appointed - certainly a special place to have an event. I attended a wine dinner of which the table was elegantly set with burning, tapered candles and fine china. A very romantic room! The food was delicious and very well paired to compliment the wines. The service was attentive without being overwhelming. Looking forward to a future visit. I attended a friend's wedding in August. It was a beautiful venue. There is no doubt about it but the food sucks big time. During cocktail hours we have to chase the wait staff around to get some snack. Then dinner time comes, It was barely a two course meal. They served a very small portion of watermelon salad. Then the second course was salmon or beef. I got the salmon one and it was so tiny and didn't taste that great. I came home hungry after 5 long hours of dancing around and being starved. read more

I don't know where to begin with this amazing weekend. My family and I went to Dover Hall for a family get away and it was one of the best vacations we have ever had! We have a large family with grandparents, 9 cousins (all ages 10 years to 10 months), my 2 siblings with their spouses, and I with my husband and 3 kids, all stayed for 3 relaxing and amazing nights at Dover Hall. We had the place to ourselves and we enjoyed every bit of it! We swam in the pool during the days, where we lunched poolside, and then would take the kids for nature walks around the property to find "treasures" before we went up to freshen up before dinner. The Virginia countryside is picturesque this time of year. I was able to go for (hilly) runs every morning where I passed horse farms and brooks. The fresh air was therapeutic. The rooms we stayed in were over-the-top gorgeous and each one was unique. It felt like we were in a castle in Europe with all the opulence and grandeur. Chad and Jeff gave us a tour and told us the history of the house with all the art and furnishings inside and it made us feel at home. We enjoyed 5 course meals for dinner with a menu specifically chosen by Chad for our tastes, wants and ages (the adults had seafood or chicken while the kids had spaghetti or chicken nuggets with veggies and fries). The staff were super friendly and there when we needed them but they also let us have our own space to spend time together as a family. The last night was especially nice because we used the fire pit on the back patio where we roasted marshmallows for s'mores. They put out hula hoops and cornhole for us to play with too! I wish we didn't have to leave but every vacation has to come to an end. I highly recommend Dover Hall to everyone I know for weddings or vacations with the family or anything, really. A one-of-a-kind venue, with world class customer service. As a wedding vendor based in the area, I have worked at many "luxury" venues that are nice in appearance but totally lack in the experience department. Dover Hall, however, is the real deal. From our first contact with them, and then every step along the journey to our wedding day, The Dover Hall team absolutely blew us away with their dedication to excellence. The entire staff is nothing short of amazing. The owners of the venue, Chad, and Jeff personally ensured the quality of every aspect of our wedding and treated my wife and I both like family and made us feel so relaxed on the actual day. Miranda and Jamie were both super knowledgable about the rich history of the venue and were incredibly accommodating to any and all needs we had for the wedding. As if the customer service wasn't enough, the property itself is truly one of a kind with priceless paintings and lavish furniture you simply do not find unless you are in the presence of royalty. The entire venue was rented to us for the whole weekend which meant there wasn't a bunch of random people we didn't know walking around that aren't attending the wedding (I see this at a lot of Virginia venues). The memories we made with family and friends being able to sleep in this one-of-a-kind house are priceless and honestly one of the biggest selling points of this venue. Last but not least, the head chef Lee created the absolute best food I have ever tasted. The food and catering is truly exceptional and it had all of our guest raving for days. I could write a whole novel about how amazing our experience was, but I will sum it up by saying if you're looking for a venue in Virginia and want an unparalleled experience from the top to bottom, stop your search now and book Dover. Best venue in Richmond. Beautiful, great food, 11 bedrooms for close people to stay, many intricate spaces for different events throughout the weekend. You can't find a space this beautiful and unique, and yet it's right here in Richmond. I loved Miranda (wedding coordinator), she was relatable and professional. While we had our kinks, it's a wedding, they dealt with them well and were kind. Highly suggest checking this place out, they're incredible. The food is also SPECTACULAR! With full disclosure, there were some bumps in the road with planning and miscommunication, but we were able to work together, and they professionally solved and addressed any issues. The owners are truly fantastic and everyone at Dover Hall is caring. On our wedding day we felt their kindness and care for us. Chef Lee is a genius!! He is the man that you want to create a beautiful menu. From the canapes to the main course, Chef Lee delivered and then some. He was able to take my West-Indian and South Indian background and fuse some elements into our wedding day food and it made my family so happy to see that. The grounds of Dover Hall are beautifully manicured and the perfect place to have your wedding ceremony and reception. The bridal suite is the most beautiful and largest one I have ever been in and provides more than enough room for the bridal party plus mothers and sisters. Whenever I think of our wedding day it fills me with joy. Dover Hall is a fantastic wedding venue, with an interesting history, and you want to chose it for your wedding venue. Our friends and family came from all over the USA, England, and Canada and everyone was impressed by Dover Hall. My family and I attended the Mother's Day brunch and I will admit that we had a rocky start where I had expressed some concerns about the venue. Almost right away the manager (Jamie) contacted us to see what could be done to rectify the matter. He seemed to really understand our concerns and has gone out of his way to provide us with a better experience. To us the manner in which Jamie has addressed this matter and their obvious concern for customer satisfaction has been just awesome. We look forward to attending other events at the venue. read more

Dover Hall looks very beautiful from the pictures, but unfortunately I reached out 4 times (twice by phone with voicemails and twice by their forms on their website) and no one bothered getting back to me. I guess they don't need the business! Either way, a return phone call would have been nice. I would never give money to a business that doesn't bother returning inquiries. Plain and simple, that's bad business. Maybe others have had more luck. What a shame, appears to be a gorgeous venue. read more

Dover Hall Estate Venues is under new ownership and management now. I have attended three events there in the last six months and recommend this venue highly for weddings or any event. The home is grand, service is superb, food has been delicious and you just can't help but feel special the moment you step through that Grand Front Door. A special shout out to the Santa Brunch event put on by Dover Hall. There are many Christmas celebrations going on around Richmond for the holidays, but nothing like what they did here. read more

Stayed at Dover Hall and attended a wine tasting dinner from a top winery. Everything was First Class. The property in itself is really unique and absolutely amazing from an architecture, decoration, and amenity point. Reminded me of a modern day Castle. Really Cool experience. The Meal prepared by the Chef was First Class and really exceptional how it was paired with the wine tasting. Service by the staff was very attentive and they made great recommendations for other wineries in the Region to visit. Would highly recommend, and will definitely return. Would also make a great Corporate Retreat Location and considering that for my Company as well at a future date. read more
