Let me first say, that I travel quite often for business/pleasure and I have NEVER had an experience like I did at the Dover Marina. My family and I were going on a cruise that was disembarking through Dover, England. We checked reviews on the Dover Marina and it seemed as though it would be a decent choice. We booked 6 months prior to our stay and checked on our reservation at least 3 times up until the point. After a 10 hour flight and 2 hours in the tube/train, we arrive exhausted and ready for a nap at the Dover Marina. The manager then tells us that they had "Issues" with some of the rooms and we no longer have a room. Our entire family had already arrived and were given rooms. They also made sure to notify the lobby that we were coming in late. That didn't seem to matter. They said that they booked us at a "comparable" hotel "just up the road". It turned out to be about 10 miles away and was a room above a pub in the middle of nowhere. I truly doubt that costed the 200 pounds that we paid. We had to return to the Dover Marina after our cruise since our flight was so early. We checked with them numerous times to confirm that we had a room and had early check in. They said we did. Of course, upon arrival...no early check in and no promised upgrade for the hassle. Our room was on the 4th floor and was so slanted that I literally rolled off the bed. Not only that, but they failed to mention that there would a full choir practicing from 1pm to 9pm on the balcony of the hotel and music blasting out of the towers of speakers placed outside. The manager of the hotel at the time had absolutely no remorse for these mistakes and refused to deal with us. We thought that they overbooking was just a one time thing, but we saw this happen to other guests on our return visit. They were overbooked 15 minutes after check in time!! Ridiculous!! This was the worst hotel experience I have ever encountered and I would recommend you book elsewhere to ensure you actually have a room when you arrive! read more
