So cool every year walking with my coffee mug, and not having to bear the nutsoness of driving my way out of that mayhem. The region of Alameda between the main isle and Harbor Bay/Bay Farm island is a wonderland of nature and beauty, views and water, sea breeze and outdoor happiness. This little Towata park is found just before the bridge crossing over into Bay Farm, just off Otis Dr. Turn right into a space that allows for about 10 parked cars, and from there, enjoy the underpass to the blue pedestrian bridge which parallels the auto one, and enjoy the water from both sides!!! It's really very special, this ability to walk out toward the estuary side and see rabbits and chipmunks, and lizards too. Facing McAfee and the Oakland hills, I came to circle the golden round of Shoreline Park that juts into the water, taking a peek at the Aegean marina folk and the activity on their boats today. On the other side, after making the mile+ circle, one can opt to turn onto the wooden-planked bridge to cross over to the shores of Bay Farm Island.... with gorgeous views of the Bay... Lovely piece of Alameda enchantment. And awesome weather to boot.

The day that I visited, several fishermen were using the casting ponds to improve their angler skills. The casting ponds have circular objects--I guess that's what you aim for. The whole thing reminds me of golfing, except instead of hitting a little ball you swing hooks at the water. The beauty of this method is that you have fishing line connected to the hook, so it's easy to get the hook back. Just think if they did that for golf how much easier it would be. Next time I'm bringing a fishing line to give it a try. They have signs reminding you to not jump in and swim around. Good idea. Of course the ponds are about 2 feet deep, so it wouldn't be much of a swim, even if there weren't fishing hooks flying overhead. I suppose if they wanted to, they could have designated swimming areas, where the fishermen don't aim the hooks at you. I'm pretty sure that would work okay. The park is reasonably well maintained, but the facility is obviously old. I saw a sign that proudly proclaimed, "Trout Fishing." Even though I'm sort of a chump, I didn't fall for that. Another visitor confirmed there really aren't any trout here. But there is a cute family of ducks and ducklings, and nearby a bunch of turtles. Maybe the sign maker confused ducks with trout. Easy to see how that could happen. Beside the casting ponds, the other ponds are pretty, and young children will certainly find the ducks a good attraction. One visitor pointed out a family of turtles close by. The turtles didn't seem to be doing too much today--just sort of floating in the water. They have several decent picnic tables as well. This would be a pleasant place to bring your family for a picnic. I did not see any restrooms or drinking faucets, but they might be hidden somewhere. So overall, a good place to visit with your young children. I can't imagine staying here more than an hour or so but it's a decent place for a quick visit. Plus, it's 100% free, with close parking as well. Just don't expect to bring home any trout for dinner.

This park has been here for ages, and back in the day, the city and the Oakland PAL use to stock the deep pools with trout for inner city youth to fish during the summer. No allocation of funds for that nowadays. Boo. If you hike to the back of the park, a path will take you to the freeway overpass leading to a really nice (and long) hike through Leona Lodge ending up at Merritt College. Nice way to spend a warm afternoon. But still, it's a great place to relax, get back to nature, then make your fast getaway on the freeway.

The chicken coup is towards the back where people are allowed to go in, view the chickens' home, and feed them. Someone mentioned that there are rabbits as well but we did not see them today. On to the childrens' play area. It's a little small but meets the needs of the park. There are two swings, a rock climbing wall that leads to the slide, monkey bars, a see-saw, and some other stuff that I don't know the name of. There is even a cute little house and a shaded bench area where parents can chill and watch the kids. Of course, there are gardens everywhere. The plots belong to various families, it sounds like many of them live in the area. I believe there is a public garden as well. I checked the website before coming and could not find any sort of events schedule, but the farm does have an Instagram page so hopefully I can find some helpful info there. The park is located in an industrial area. In fact they are building some condos(?) right next to the park which looks a bit odd. Still, I look forward to returning to this park for a quick escape.

It's the only business I've ever called outside of business hours that does not have an answering machine to allow you to leave them messages. 3. There are many many times when both restrooms are locked even during business hours and there is no one inside either restroom so you'd better be able to 'hold it'. I suspect they keep the restrooms locked to prevent homeless people from using them but they may not be aware that even people who are not homeless need to use restrooms. 4. Feel sorry for anyone who lives within earshot because when children use the swings it produces a loud squeaking sound. 5. There is very little parking available on Buena Vista so many people park in the bus stop and block it, especially on weekday mornings when people drop off their kids here. You should see the look on peoples' faces when they return to their cars and the bus has then blocked THEM in. The APD really needs to ticket the illegally parked cars. Because of such issues I just walk or ride through this park instead of stopping in it for fresh air or to take a break.

This park is what you wish you had for a backyard, and probably do if you live outside the bay area. It's plenty of land to run, run, run, with some rolling landscape to make it a bit more interesting. You can see from one end to the other, but it's waaaaaaay over there. I love that they carved out this strip of land right next to the freeway...the soft lull/roar of the freeway can be heard, but it's not distracting or too loud at all. There isn't separation between small and large dogs...it's up to owners to figure out whether it's a good fit. My 67- and 53-lb dogs had some fun with a little dog today that looked to be about 15 lbs. In fact, the bigger one needs to shed a little pandemic weight (like her mom) and I think running around with those hecka fast little ones is just the ticket. I'll possibly give it 5 stars if I return a couple of times and all is still well. And yes...gopher holes are there. That just gave them something else to do...sticking their snuffles into the holes to sniff around. The gophers are too smart for them, though.

The park is alway pretty empty which is good, because my dogs tend to be a little timid and antisocial. It's so peaceful and relaxing when it's just us. The park provides poopy bags. I think most people just bring their own though and leave them, I do sometimes for whoever may have forgotten their own. Whatever the case we practice on keeping it very clean by picking up our pets waste. As for parking it's usually some street parking always near....one more thing on the side gate of the park there is a fence with lots of cactus and sweet fruits I like to enjoys every so often also.

The cool part is there are several hills that goes up and down. Great workout both for the dogs and humans. It's not huge, but if you go around twice you can get a good cardio workout and you'll start sweating. I know I did. Be aware though that there are quite a few poop off the side of the trails so just be mindful. Try to look where you're stepping into. Bring your dog poop bags as there are non available. There is one trash can that's towards Sunkist Dr/McCormick entrance. There are no official parking, but plenty of neighborhood street parking in the area about half or a block away. I met a few neighbors while I was up there and they shared there were two other spots of entry. I am not sure exactly as I am still fairly new to the area, but I'd give it a try for your dogs if you live nearby. Cheers!
