After your river adventure this bus will pick you up

What a perfect way to cool off from the heat of summer. This place is just about an hour from DC. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. There is a well stocked gift shop with essentials and merch and they will even hold your keys for you. You can canoe, kayak or do lazy River tubing. My friends and I did a tubing trip this past Saturday. The river was low, so it took almost 4 hours however to float down the ricer on our tubes. Despite the hours, it was an enjoyable adventure. We rented a cooler for our drinks, brought a portable speaker and had a fun times! Don't forget your sunscreen, water shoes and waterproof bags!

Downriver Canoe Company was AWESOME! It was so fun to experience the river thru this family-run business. From start to finish you could feel the love. The staff were fun, friendly and accommodating. Facilities were well managed and clean. We had the best vacation on the river with our family. The driver was excellent , safe and told us exactly where we needed to put in our canoes & where to take them out. Felt very safe, with all my kids...even my 9 year old. Highly recommend Downriver Canoe Company!

We had a great time with Downriver Canoe Co. We got a 4 person raft and hit the river for a relaxing no wait stressful paddle down the river. The water level was a little low on the river. We could have used maybe 6 more inches of water. Only wish the river was a little more marked so we knew how far we had to go. Will definitely be back for another go at the river

    Beautiful rafting downstream Shenandoah River.

After we got all that we needed and a quick rundown of the safety guidelines it was a short walk to the river.

We looked online for a good safe place in Northern Virginia to rent ATV's and found Appalachian Adventures. Doing it last minute we thought it would impossible but we called and got the wonderful co-owner of the business, Patricia. Patricia and Tom own AA and Patricia is not anything if not completely customer focused and extremely helpful. She explained how it all worked and we we surprised to learn just how many activities they actually offer! Canoeing, shooting, horseback riding, ATV and cabins to name a few. They are a family owned business and a class act. You can immediately tell how closely involved the owners are because everything is spic and span. Very clean operation. The ATVs were new, well maintained and safety was paramount from the first call to the signing in to the tour guide. The signing in process was east and directions to the site well documented. The guide himself - Brandon - was extremely attentive, keeping a close eye on us so we felt safe and comfortable. The trail was great fun with a lot of variety and although several members of our family were unfamiliar with ATVs, we all caught on and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We were impressed by the family friendly approach to the business and the thoughtfulness of all the services. kudos to the entire AA team!!

    # The ATV ride…read moreitself was great. The customer service before it was not. I want to start by recognizing **Gabriella**. We spoke several times before our trip, and she was informative, patient, honest, and accommodating every step of the way. She also ended up being our guide, and she was outstanding throughout the ride. Unfortunately, our experience with **Patricia** almost caused us to leave before we ever got on an ATV. My group of four arrived about **50 minutes before** our scheduled ride, with our fourth rider expected to arrive about 30 minutes before departure. Before introducing herself or welcoming us, Patricia immediately greeted me with, *"I've been calling and texting you!"* followed by, *"You're late! Where is your group?!"* Before I could even respond, more questions and comments followed. There is nothing wrong with verifying that customers have arrived or explaining why arriving early is important. There **is** a professional way to do it. As paying customers who had already spent hundreds of dollars and driven hours to support the business, we expected to be welcomed--not immediately made to feel like we'd done something wrong. A few things future customers should know: * Plan to arrive **one hour early**. * Deposits are **non-refundable**. * Riders are responsible for **any damage up to the full replacement cost** of the ATV. * **No phones or GoPros** are allowed on the trails, even when mounted hands-free. * A **mandatory 15-20% gratuity** is collected **before** the ride begins. In my opinion, if it's mandatory and collected before any service is provided, it's a service charge--not a gratuity--and it should be presented that way. Once we got on the trails, the experience completely turned around. Gabriella was fantastic, the ATVs were well maintained, and the trails were scenic, technical, and a lot of fun. Could we have gone a little faster? Sure. But after riding the terrain, I completely understood why we didn't. Safety came first without taking away from the experience. Appalachian Adventures has an excellent product that's being overshadowed by a poor front-office experience. The biggest issue isn't the rules--it's **how they're communicated**. **Patricia, if you read this, please understand that this review isn't about enforcing policies. Every business has rules, and I respect that. It's about how those rules are communicated. Customers deserve to be greeted with professionalism and respect. There is a significant difference between being firm and being confrontational.** The two stars are for Gabriella, the trails, and the quality of the equipment. Without her, this would have been a one-star review. **Customers should leave talking about the trails--not about how they were spoken to before they ever put on a helmet.**

Tubing Review: We had an amazing time. Was is exhausting,…read moreyes. Worth it, yes! Owen was great. He was a great driving the stick shift bus back to the outfitters. It was nice being dropped off and picked up. We did have issues with our card online, but when I called in to book, Nancy was helpful. She got us all situated and sent an email to confirm. We filled out waivers online which was a breeze. We watched a quick safety video, picked up our lifevest and were on our way. The water was the perfect temp, and it was clear. Tips: bring snacks and water. You are out there 4-5 or longer hours. Especially if the water is low, which ours was. We used a waterproof bag and had no issues. We used a tube with a cup holder which was nice. I wore my life vest out of precaution even though I can swim, plus it made it comfortable for my to use it as a neck rest. I've noticed people mention in previous reviews that the bus was dirty ect. Um, you're in the woods. If you get picked up after many other groups the bus will be dirty as everyone is wet coming out of the water no matter what activity you choose. I would not own a brand spanking new vehicle for this type of environment and job. Used is best and saves money I'm sure. Wear a hat and sunglasses, put in that sunscreen. Bring a waterproof phone case/bag. You will have no service out there so put it on airplane mode and use it as a camera.
