Downtown Comics right on the Circle in Indy's a great place to pick up the latest issues of your favorite comics. My experience with the staff is that they're knowledgable and enthusiastic. I do see other reviewers here saying that the staff have been rude, but I've never had that experience. The store is well laid out and the selection's always up to date and organized. The staff usually are willing to offer me recommendations. I'm a middle-aged guy and don't really keep up on comic book news. So I appreciate when I can just ask, "What's good right now?" and have them suggest some books for me. read more

On Back to the Future Day (10/21) they decided to sell single issue comics for the same price as they were sold when the film came out - $1.00. Yeah. You read that right. As long as it wasn't a comic that came out that day (meaning it included issues from last week!) it was $1.00. AMAZING! They have a great supply and nicely arranged in alphabetical order and by company (ie Marvel, DC, etc). They even offer all Boom Box comics; only three stores in IN do this. There's a great variant cover section, $1 comics of popular series that are about 1+ years old, books (like Hark! A Vagrant!), figures, magnets (I got lady Thor!!), and more. The location is great - right off of Monument Circle in downtown Indy. I recommend getting comics and then hopping next door-ish to Georgios for stuffed pizza and read your latest items. My heart will always be with Hero House but this $1 issue sale made me a HUGE fan. Thank you! read more

Stopped in Saturday after a visit to City Market. Not a bad shop, but also very different than the shops I'm used to in Ohio. This one definitely seems more DC/Marvel focused as far as nack issues go. The clerk was nice and chatty, but we left empty handed. Pros - short walk from City Market, staff is nice, prices seemed fair, good selection of trades/collected editions. Cons - back issues are somewhat lacking and focused on the big 2. read more

This was the first comic book store I took my youngest nephew to (4 years old) and he LOVED it. My older nephew loved it as well but seeing the younger ones eyes light up at all the comics and the selection of toys was awesome. The staff member when we went was amazing as well, she heard the boys talking about Sonic the Hedgehog and gave them each a book. Really made their day. read more

Down in Indy while my son is undergoing chemo therapy i go to the store to buy him some thing to brighten his mood when me and my boyfriend we are Hispanic get followed thru the store asking what we are doing there was more people around but he only targeted us the only Hispanic i don't appreciate being harnessed and constantly asked what I'm looking for or what I'm doing when you have many items to purchase and go threw so yes I'm taking my time especially when i stay all day I'm in a hospital room i felt like he was racist cause none of the white customers asked once what they were looking around while i got followed around like a thief or a criminal read more

Indianapolis Day Trip Part 8: Downtown Comics: Stopped in here on the way to dinner. Wish I had more time to explore, but it was right before closing time. But a great selection along with a lot of cool statues out of my price range at which to gawk. I got a Die-Cast figure of Jack Knight/Starman for $5! That's a pretty deep dive for a figurine. Oh yer, who's a geek? Me! Who has a stack of 50 or so comics to catch up on?? ME!! And who has WAAAAY too many vinyl toy figurines??? No, not me!! I need MORE! ^__^ I've been to a few comic book stores (a.k.a. a geek's heaven on earth) around Indy and Downtown Comics is definitely my favorite. I hate going to some of the other ones where there are boxes, upon boxes of unsorted merchandise, unorganized books, and all of the comics are displayed in a random order. Put the new ones up front and put them in alphabetical order damnit!! My A.D.D. brain is already on overload with all the pretty comic colors! I'm not a fan of this shop. I want to be, the location is sooooo convenient and they have a great and well-organized collection, but the staff seem to not get along well and are low-key a little judgmental about your comic choices. When I came in this week to pick up an order, the guy I requested help from was not at all interested in helping and also bad talked another employee to me and blamed them for a minor mix up with my order. I was so put off by his behavior I ended up leaving without buying anything and just ordering online. If you are an in and out shopper this is the place for you. But if you want recommendations or want to hang out and leaf through comics this is not at all the place I would recommend unfortunately! I will say that this shop was very clean and pretty well organized compared to a lot of other comic places in the area. Again- great if you know exactly what you want and you just want to pop in and out. read more

We love this location! My kids and I always find something wonderfully nerdy and perfect. It's well-organized and easy to explore, but staff is always willing to answer questions (which was nice for this comics-newbie!) I've been in this location and their North location dozens of times and every time I leave I ask myself, "Why do I keep coming back here?" Downtown Comics is a great example of many of the problems that are plaguing the comic book market/community. If you're purely looking for new comics, then the store is fine. The staff is generally friendly and the store is decently organized, but that can be said about pretty much every other comic shop in America. That's the easy part. What troubles me is their complete lack of care for their back issues and the crazy high prices they ask for their key or even non key books. The back issue bins are nothing short of a disaster. Books are packed in so tightly that you can barely get a finger between issues to sort through them. The bags and boards are old, mismatched, dusty, yellowing and many of them aren't even taped closed which makes flipping through them even harder. That's if they're even in bags to begin with! It's easy to see that whenever they get a new collection in, they slap a new price tag on it and shove them in with the others. It's really not that much of an investment to re-bag and board the books so that they at least have a fighting chance to retain their condition and value. I know this because I worked in a comic shop and one of my duties was to do exactly that. Dollar bins are the exception, but if you're putting a $30 price tag on a book, maybe a new $0.05 bag and board is a worthwhile investment. Heck, you can add $0.25 to the price tag and you've just upped your profit margin! If you don't care about your inventory, then why would a customer? Which leads me to their pricing. Unless you stumble upon a key issue in decent condition that's been long forgotten in the Sarlacc pit they call back issue bins, everything is priced as if it were NM and the trailer for the character just came out yesterday. I've seen books that would be lucky to get a 6.0 priced priced as if they were CGC 9.6s. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt in some cases. Maybe some of these books were NM when they were priced. But after getting crammed in to the back issue bins, they're quickly bent, creased, and devalued. It'd be like if you owned a car dealership, but you parked all your used cars in a dirt lot behind the building and threw bird seed on them every night. I expect this kind of lackadaisical presentation from Half Priced Books or at a flea market, but not from shops that have been around for decades. Over the last 40 years I've been collecting comics, I've seen hundreds of shops come and go and whenever they fail the finger is always pointed at the publishers or the customers or the industry as a whole. Never back at the owners who ran these places into the ground. With the recent boom in comics thanks to everyone going stir crazy from the pandemic, it's painfully obvious that dealers are terrified of "losing" money on key issues (despite the fact that they will always offer 50% or less for any books they buy). They're far more interested in screwing some unknowing collector out of $50 extra bucks than they are in retaining customers and keeping up with the market. read more

Only comic shop I've ever been to that I absolutely refuse to return to. I had never been here before and decided to check it out. Everything was pretty good at first. Had a decent selection of books. I start picking up books that I was interested in buying. Occasionally stopping and leafing through a book that seemed interesting to determine if I want to add it to my stack or not. Every once in a while I would notice that clerk would be staring at me. Not just looking around the store and glancing at me, but looking right at me. I make it the end of the shelves on their back wall and am flipping through a book that had caught my attention and the clerk approached me. She begins telling me that I'm not allowed to just "read all the comics and put them back". Apparently ignoring the significant stack that I had been carrying through the store with me, and was currently sitting on the shelf right next to me. I don't appreciate being treated as a thief. Had I ACTUALLY been just picking up books, reading them page for page, then setting them back down, that would one thing. Her actions would have been understandable and justified. But not only was I clearly NOT doing that, I had in my hands a stack of at least 10 books that I had planned on buying. I just put everything back on the shelf and left. I went and bought everything that I had intended to buy from them, from Comic Book University. They're my normal store anyway, I just like comic books and comic book stores. I had never been to this one and wanted to check it out. But after that experience, it's unlikely I'll be back and dont recommend it to anyone else. The nicest people selling comics in Indy. They stock a big selection of new comics, collections, and gifts and, if they don't have it, they'll get it for you. The downtown shop is my main store but the Castleton (north side) and west side shops are just as nice. read more

Welcoming to our group in business suits and with two women. We were welcomed by the owner and talked women in comics for some time with him, in a way that was respectful and showed that he was not caught up in the ideology that women don't read/create/promote comics (because hello we're 52% of the buying public). Lots of figurines. Not a huge vinyl pop selection. Great place to stop in and within walking distance of the Convention Center. read more

great shop! the people behind the counter kniw comics and the industry very well. usually one if the owners is working behind the counter and they are always quick to share a story or debate the important stuff like which captain was better picard or kirk. nice selection of new and used comics along with related items. they grade well and always find something i cant live without when im in there. read more

It is not my favorite Comic book store. That title goes to Comic book University near Greenwood. But being a Comic Book Store (literally) in the center of Indiana it wins the convenience prize. Good selection, friendly people work there, and it is a great place to stop by after the stores in ,let's say, Gen Con or Indy Comic Con close and you want continue your nerd shopping. All in all nice place and VERY convenient location. read more

I've been here several times before and its always been just kind of okay. Nothing spectacular. Their selection is usually not as good as others in the city. But if I'm nearby I'll stop in. But just the other day I was walking around and found a couple issues that I didn't know what they were. But looked interesting. So I was flipping through them, not like reading them page to page, just to get a general idea of what they were about to know if I wanted to buy them or not. Then the clerk comes up to me and said, "Sir, you can't just stand around reading the comics". I said "oh, okay". Put back all the books I was going to buy and instead went to Comic Book University in Greenwood and bought it all. That's never happened to me before. Not just in comic book stores, but in actual BOOK stores. Most even provide chairs for you sit and read the books there. Even when buying comics ONLINE, the websites will still provide previews of the first several pages. So, with all that said I would highly recommend going somewhere else for you comic book needs. read more

So I stopped by here this past Wednesday(New comic book day) to pic up some comics while I was showing my roommates mom and brother around and was excited to give this place a try! As far as selection goes it's awesome, I found some comics here I couldn't find at Comic Carnival which is awesome!(I still love you Comic Carnival) the huuuuuuuuuuuuge difference here is the service. Now I'm hoping this was an off day but the guy at the register was a complete jerk for what ever reason I don't know... everything seemed fine at first he helped me find a comic I was looking for and then right out of left field he gets extremely awkward with me. I assumed maybe because there was something I missed with gentlemen in front of me in line but then my roommates mom asked to see some dice because she wanted to buy some 12 sided dice for him and the guy was a complete smart ass to her. I get it he's a nerd and nerds aren't the best when dealing with people out of their realm but I mean come on. Even after all this we thanked him and said bye and the jerk just turned the other cheek... This made me appreciate the service I get from Comic Carnival. Unfortunately since they have a tad better selection when it comes to Variant covers I'll probably come here again... hopefully I am right to assume it was a bad day because the truth is this place has a great selection... read more
