In Greenville for a meeting and we had reservations for Downtown Grille for 6:30 on a Friday night. There were ten of us and we beat the crowd. I was kind of worried since it's a nice looking place surrounded by businesses that appear to be permanently closed. However, a crowd picked up closer to 8, so I can tell it's a local favorite. Our server was amazing! Didn't have to ask for refills, condiments or anything. She handled us really well and answered any questions we had. I ordered one of the daily specials, blackened redfish. Menu said it came on orzo, which I don't like so I subbed for the long grain rice. I added a side of broccolini. Food came out hot and in a reasonable amount of time. My fish, with that Cajun cream sauce, melted in my mouth! I didn't like the rice, as it was gummy but the broccolini was cooked as if a gold medal was the prize at the end of the night! Nice place to have a dinner in the Delta. We were celebrating an 80th birthday and chose Downtown Grille. I made reservations online but ended up having to call. I would suggest calling for reservations. I told them we were celebrating an 80th birthday but there was no recognition. We ordered appetizers: Fried Green Tomatoes: these came with a crawfish sauce which was excellent! Savory and creamy, a perfect compliment to the tanginess on the tomatoes. Duck Wraps: such a great combination of the duck, creamy cheese, spicy jalapeños and salty bacon. Boudin Egg Rolls: these were spicy. Not my jam at all. They were cooked well with a crispy crust and moist spicy inside stuffing. For Dinners: The ribeye: we're used to a $55 steak being a very high quality and well cooked. I just don't think the price equaled the steak. The bone in pork chop was very well seasoned and was perfectly cooked. There was a lot of fat on the chop both throughout and on the edges. The sides were very good! The zucchini and summer squash was the star of the plate. Well seasoned and cooked in a way that they had a slight crispiness. Simple yet wonderful. The baked sweet potato was wonderful, creamy and buttery. The Tuscan Chicken: this is as served on a bed of rice. The chicken was cooked well, juicy and tender. The sauce was creamy with sun dried tomatoes and spinach. The sauce needed salt. The Redfish: perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The rice was also well seasoned. Very good dish The fried catfish was well seasoned and cooked well. The tartar sauce was made in house and very good. The blackened catfish was very good. Well seasoned. 6 entrees, 5 appetizer orders and 3 coffees with the 20% tip that was automatically added to our ticket due to having 6 people in our party was $358. I felt it was a fair price for what we received. Service was good. read more

Welp, I said I wouldn't be returning here. But my brother wanted to go and offered to pay, so I was in lol! I was hoping for a better food experience, but I have to leave my rating at 3 stars. Let me start by saying that the service was great! We made reservations and our table was ready (with water on it) when we arrived. Our waitress was excellent. She was knowledgeable about the menu and very personable. The booth that we sat in was a bit tight and cramped. There were only 3 of us, so I can't imagine how 4 people would make it work. Now on to the food. They gave us complimentary rolls. At initial sight, I thought they were burnt...but in actuality, they were perfect with a hint of sweetness. The accompanying garlic butter sauce made them even better. We ended up getting more rolls when the food came and they were not as brown as the first ones and not as good either. We started with the Fried Oysters Melanieand Shrimp & Jalapeno Poppersas appetizers. They were both decent and the shrimp in the poppers were really fresh. For my entrée, I had the Shrimp and Grits. The grits had great flavor and texture, the andouille sausage was tasty, but the shrimp was a letdown. The whole dish sat in a pool of grease. By this point we were full, so we ordered the White Chocolate Bread Pudding to go. The bread pudding was bland and the white chocolate sauce was really watery and lacking flavor. To sum things up, the food is average at best. That's not a bad thing, but for the price, it's not worth it. If this place were to move their price point down some, I would probably visit regularly. read more

Downtown Greenville used to be lined with stores, restaurants,offices and businesses. It is nice to see people are taking advantage of some of the vintage buildings and bringing them back to life. I absolutely love the exposed brick in this restaurant. It has a loft-like downtown feel to it. Very clean and everyone that we interacted with was fantastic. My mom had the stuffed catfish and enjoyed it. She said the side of onions and mushrooms were a little greasy. But what food in the south isn't? They offer a kids' menu that was presented to us verbally. The kid with us had the grilled cheese and loved it and the fries. I ordered the shrimp and grits. I didn't like it all. This place is outstanding. Big group loved the stuffed mushrooms to start. My Caesar salad had amazing greens and filet was perfection. It is tough to make it in the Delta but if you are within striking distance, you must make it a regular. I hope to get there at least once on each trip to Greenville. Ate there after the marathon (although I only ran the 5K race) but it was all spot-on. Enjoyed talking to the proprietor and really wish you guys the very best. You never know when you might find a jewel when you are traveling the back roads, especially in Mississippi, but this is truly one. A bit off the beaten track away from the commercial strip, it is located on the former main drag across from an old abandoned Buick Dealership building and where a tornado destroyed a building several years ago. The building across the street is a beautiful scene in the evening sunset too. The inside has been tastefully redone, but we sat outside in mid April. Our waitstaff was young and tentative at first, but brightened delightfully with a bit of conversation. The management came around frequently to check and was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We also struck up a conversation with a fellow visitor who visits Greenville frequently that was fun and informative. So the atmosphere was great. But the food was unexpectedly good. We shared the shrimp and grits and a Caesar salad which was more than enough for the two of us. The homemade Caesar dressing was as good as any I have tasted. The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly --as were the grits. But the star was the dark brown roux surrounding the presentation with just the right amount of spicey pepperiness that complemented and did not overwhelm the shrimp/grits. We have eaten a lot of shrimp and grits in our lifetimes and this was one of the most memorable! If we pass this way again will definitely stop by! Highly recommended!! read more

My wife and i visited this restaurant tonight. I wanted their finest steak with baked potato and my wife wanted grilled shrimp. We ordered appetizers the fried green tomatoes and crawfish Beignets. The fried green tomatoes were fantastic and the beignets were very good. Turns out that it was a good thing there were 2 crawfish in the beignets because when she ordered the waitress told her that they were out of shrimp! No food for her!!! When I ordered, I was told that they were out of baked potatoes!!! Like potatoes are so hard to get!!! So I couldn't eat an entree in front of my wife as she had worked all day and I'm retired. SO... if you want NO DINNER... go to this restaurant GO to this establishment!!! I wanted to ask the owner what he does for his real job!!! What a joke if a restaurant!!! I have eaten here several times on trips to Greenville. The most recent visit was this past Friday, April 19th for dinner. The food is very good. I've eaten the catfish, fried green tomatoes and the best are the shrimp & grits. I like the ambiance overall also. For some reason on this trip, we were told we could not have a booth because they were all reserved. The odd part was we watched most of the booths remain empty throughout our meal. Found this place because I wanted to go to Mighty Miss Brewery. Brewery does not serve food but allowed to bring food in. So glad we came in, the place is very nice and the ambience is wonderful. Live music was nicely done, sat two chairs from them and the volume was not overwhelming. staff is friendly and attentive. The Bar is one of the most well stocked and organized bar I've been to, I mean all the way to the drink garnishes and accompaniments. It's a very beautiful bar. The bartenders (Don & Theresa) are wonderful. Don is an amazing mixologist and loves his craft, was cool to watch his process. If you like bourbon cocktails, ask for Nobody. Now, for the food, I didn't get to try much but had the Boudin Bites which were tasty, stuffed mushrooms (delicious), grilled shrimp pasta (very good) and the Crawfish Mac n Cheese....wow, this was much better than I expected. It's a huge portion of ooey gooey cheesy crawfish deliciousness!!!! Was there Friday & Saturday night and we ordered it both nights. So, if you're in Greenville, this place is a must try. OMG... I wish this restaurant was in Orange Park, FL! First was the rolls... so light and buttery! Then we started out with the stuffed mushrooms... the best stuffed mushrooms we have ever had! Followed by the entree... a 10 oz filet, cooked to perfection... I have to say that it is a tie with the filet I had at Ruth Chris... maybe even a flight edge. Cannot quite believe or comprehend how this place has received so many positive reviews based on our dining experience this evening. The menu was lacking of seafood that was not fried, the price of the steak offerings were outrageous based on what you received and the sides were expensive. To pay for a steak for $45 and then only receive a small portion of zucchini with everything being extra was difficult to accept. My hubby was told that he would could select a side with his steak so he chose a salad and then when the bill came he found that it had an up charge of $4. I ordered Kobe beef sliders for a whopping $18 only to learn that they definitely were not Kobe beef. I was charged $2 for a glass of soda water. For one beer, one glass of soda water, steak dinner with no sides other than some wimpy zucchini, a wimpy salad with one tomato and two rings of onion and some beef sliders, the bill came to $79! I don't have a clue how locals or tourists can afford to eat at this place. read more

Lunch started off perfect with the best waitress ever! She was one of the nicest people I encountered in Mississippi, I never got her name, but she bakes! She recommended that we start with the Hot Tamale Boudin Bites, and yes, I now recommend them to you. Fantastic! And a huge portion. As a self-proclaimed tomato hater, I love a really good fried green tomato (yeah, yeah, I know). When I mentioned that I was considering the Fried Green Tomato BLT, our waitress said that was her favorite menu item and clearly I had to order it. It was absolutely delicious! The fried green tomato was firm and crispy, the bacon was crispy, the sauces were tasty, everything about this sandwich is a reason for me to come back and order it again. They have a combination dining and bar area which is on the far end of the restaurant with a cozy seating area right across from the bar... Bar stock is amazing for my drink choices yet if I order a drink my way I was told no they go by the recipe only I can't add anything to it. The bar manager does not have the best people skills. I don't want to go on a rant... so I wont about him. My husband calls him the "drink Nazi" lets just say that. We were told by him they won't be getting the beer my husband drinks. What is this place doing in Greenville? Really, I wanna know! Downtown Grille could be a MAJOR competitor with some of the top steakhouses here in Houston. My husband and I were struggling to find a decent meal while we were in town visiting. When my friend suggested this place, I still had my expectations lowered because, well, it's Greenville. We were both pleasantly surprised when both of our meals knocked our socks off. We ordered take-out and they had forgotten to put silverware in our bag, but hey, no worries! My husband was able to eat his filet like a cupcake it was so perfectly tender. The shrimp and grits I ordered was hands down the BEST I've ever had. We also couldn't settle on one dessert so we ordered three: the chocolate cake, bread pudding and cheesecake. ALL of them were divine but the bread pudding was by far our favorite. If you ever catch yourself here in Greenville in the evening, please eat here. It'll exceed all expectations no matter where you're from! read more

An unprofessional and off-putting experience, my friends/coworkers and I were stereotyped and profiled, as we were kicked out of the restaurant because we "smelled like marijuana." Being three people who don't smoke marijuana, and don't even drink alcohol, we assured them this must be a mistake of some kind, but instead we were shunned and told that we violated their clearly baffling odor policy. Very quickly, the General Manager came to the table and asked if something was wrong as we bewilderedly attempted to tell him that not one of us smokes marijuana, but he immediately cut us off without even listening to us, and rudely told us to leave. Being three foodies traveling the nation for work, laughing and happy to enjoy a good meal in a new town, we were instead turned away by a judgmental and arrogant staff.
