    Fresh Jamaica

I love this little farmers market. There is a nice mix of produce vendors, flower stalls and food trucks. I've gotten wonderful things like very fresh globe eggplant and fresh Jamaica! It's located in a park so there are a lot of chairs and tables out for picnics and sometimes there's music giving the even a carnival-like atmosphere.

My office is about a block away from this market, therefore is almost inevitable to stop here. The hours of this farmers market do not cooperate with my schedule. Usually the market is open from 9am to 1pm, so it ends right around my lunch break. I usually take lunch around 12pm, so when I go to the farmers market, they are usually loading up to go. I don't understand this time, I really wish they could open from 1pm to 6pm, than I would probably go way more often to have dinner and buy vegetables every Thursday. The farmers market does have numerous diverse stands of rotating fresh produce, depending on on the season. For example this past week, winter season, there was Japanese fruit, lot of variety of mushrooms, lettuce, oranges, etc. So for a winter season they had a good selection. Of coarse during summer season, this market looks way different, with more colorful selection. Here's where I am a little disappointed, the options of prepared food. There is not a lot of selection. So I see cattle corn, tamales (after winter I don't want any), burgers, hot dogs, churros, I don't see any grill chicken, steak, or fish tacos that I usually see in other farmers market. This is a little disappointing, especially if you want lunch. The location however is really nice, right on Plaza Park, under the big trees. The market sets up tables where you can meet up with friends/family/neighbors and grab a quick nibble to eat, really relaxing. I recommend you grab some hummus and chips, and have a small conversation with another person, really relaxing. After seeing so many farmers market around the state, I feel like the Downtown Oxnard has a lot of room for improvement. Especially because Oxnard is a huge agriculture hub. This market makes you question where are all the produce is going? to LA or SF? C'mon we produce everything from avocados to artichokes, tomatoes, strawberries, to name a few. Let us see what crops are grown in the area, and what products are made. Where is Herzog wine at? sell it here at the market! Where are not just an exporter city!! This is why for now I give it three stars, but we'll see if changes come.

We were disappointed in our experience here today. Prices were high for the so-so quality. Selection was limited, too -- lots of flowers, a few food trucks, and a lot of veggies that looked and felt overripe. We bought nice-looking local strawberries and some fresh-baked cookies, but $2.50 per pound for cukes?! I don't think so! It was our first visit, so maybe we just hit a bad day. We'll give them another chance.

Made elote at home with the corn we got here. 3 corn on the cobs for $2!

Great place! A little smaller than most Farmers Markets I've been to, but still had everything I needed. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Some meals here and there such as Mexican dishes, elote, and beef jerky as well. I enjoyed it here. Very friendly people and great prices. Bought two strawberry baskets for $5, green onion bunch for $1, beets for $2.50, corn on the cob which was only 3 for $2, and yellow peaches and emerald green plums. All so fresh and delicious! They also had a booth of essential oils and incense and a couple of other booths with plants. Fun, small town Farmers Market. Enjoyed my visit here!

Whats neat about this farmers market is that it's actually local! Most of the goods are from Oxnard and not a random town thats hours away like other markets. The artisans are all pretty friendly and happy that you're there. I really enjoyed the vibe and how pleasant everyone was. Plenty of parking and a lot of vendors accept different payment methods. I recommend coming here and getting a snack if you are going on any of the local boat tours to the islands.

The market had many more booths than I was expecting after reading the write up. They had a mix of food items for sale from fruits and veggies to desserts, to fish to drinks but they also had jewelry, clothes, toys, cremes and balms and other assorted items. Their fruits and veggies were impressive. It was so vibrant, colorful, fragrant. Enjoy my photos of the berries to see what I mean. I did buy a bakery item from the booth that had a lot of items, but no one in line, no wait versus the other booth that had a good amount of items but about 15 people in line. I should have known. My coffee cake item had saran wrap but it had a hole in it, and it was very stale. I am assuming that the hole led to it being stale and not that it was an old item not freshly made that day. It was very disappointing. If you are in the area, stop in and check it out.

Fresh produce? Always hits. Flowers? Stunning every time. Vendors? So friendly. It's the kind of place you come to stroll and leave with a full tote and very happy. I had a lovely chat with Raymond and Christine at their baked goods stand and got some gluten free treats for my partner when I get back home. The food section was lively and had fantastic tamales. Everyone is so friendly and a few booths stayed open shortly past 12 for last minute purchases. Can't wait to make a delicious dinner tonight with produce and fresh pasta we got here!

It is exactly as it sounds. I am not sure it even has a real name but it is a permanent fruit stand outside of Oxnard and known to every cycling organization in this area of Los Angeles. The man who is a permanent fixture behind the counter always has a smile and some samples of fresh, red ripe strawberries for any cyclists who come down the road and stop at his little stand to buy a few drinks and some fruit to refuel. He welcomes us to take advantage of a bit of shade and some chairs for rest before making the trek back to wherever their journey began. I can't say I even know his name, but he is extremely kind and offers cold beverages and fruit at rock bottom prices. There is a restroom inside the building next to the stand. There is usually a guy sitting on the front porch there and an old dog who sleeps on the sofa inside. That dog never budges with the many people who come in and out. There are photos of cyclists on the walls of his stand and he takes pictures of any of the large groups that come through. Strawberry Stand, I will be back! Thanks for all the hospitality!
