I prefer Uptown Gold Spring, but this place will do. Let's be honest here, the food around here can be great and there's plenty of money and lots of people, but I don't love Silver Spring or it's traffic. Still, I don't hate it and there's a lot of good ethnic food (especially Max's for Shawarma and Falafel, and Sardi's of course), and even some Bubble Tea in this very Mall at DTSS, which is a Kung Fu tea with nice service and decor which is absolutely gorgeous. I just wish that parking was better and policing was less militant and stuff was less expensive. Overall I can only give the mall a 3 despite and having a Kung Fu Tea because it is so expensive and because parking and traffic are so bad.

This is a small hub where you can find Asian, pub, coffee, Spanish, and many more restaurants, as well as a few shopping outlets such as New York & Co. and H&M one street over. People don't usually hang out here until later in the evenings, but it's a nice open area to explore around when bored. Some events also take place here, such as parades and the farmers market.

Been here so many times, I watch this place evolve. This place really come a long way. Downtown Silver Spring just got even more exciting, lots of good shops, restaurants, entertainment. It's awesome! On Saturdays they have Farmers Market in the morning with all the fresh fruits, veggies, meat ,milk ,cheeses. ALL fresh from the farm. Parkings are FREE on the weekend and everyday after 9:30 PM Yay! FYI It's always crowded on the weekend.

I enjoy this area. Within just a few blocks you have AFI, The Magestic 20, shopping and lots of restaurants. On weekends you may find a food market or a band playing. During the winter months you can ice skate at the rink across from the movie theater. Where else can you hear music, find Jesus, shoes on sale, smell vendor chess nuts and get Ben & Jerry's? I enjoy strolling along the blocks around the theaters and window shopping. Hand holding optional, but recommended.

This is a GREAT place to come and hang out. Plenty of stores, 2 movie theaters (one of them shows independent films), restaurants every which way....etc. One of my fav. places to go. ALSO - all of the parking garages are free on the weekend as well.

I guess if you compared to what use to be here and the improvements, I can understand the excitement and high reviews. But at the end of the day, you will notice that there are not a whole lot of shops here and most people come here for the abundance of restaurants. A lot of them are chain restaurants, but still good. Parking can be tough. A garage is available but you gotta pay for it.

    DTSS Christmas Tree!

I love hanging out at SSD. It has variety of restaurant choices, movie theater, and some stores (H&M, DSW, NY&Company etc...) I love to come to the farmers market on Saturdays. Although the city plaza is small and have like 10 stores open, I like to stop by Marshall and Nine West Outlet store there. Now the ice rank is open too. Overall, good meeting up with people or date spot.

    So fun to watch!! Lol

I also find the uniqueness of the space appealing. My coworkers down here told me that this use to be a department store at one point and then it got redone into what is essentially an urban mall now. One that I personally think works. Parking is fairly easy here. You can do street (if you can find a spot) or the parking garage across the street. Depending on the floor you park on in the garage you have two options to enter Ellsworth. You can take the footbridge which will take you to the fourth floor of the mall, or you can go street level and cross the street. One inside it is a bit of a maze to find where you want to go. My tip here is to start on the bottom and make your way to the top. If you are a discount store shopper than this is the place for you. You can hop from TJ Maxx to Marshalls, than onto Ross's and Burlington. Throw in some Five Below and DSW and you probably just found an outfit for far less than going to a department store. I don't know what this was like before I moved down here, but it looks like it is in bit of a transition. The shoe store on the one level was on its way out and there appeared to be a storefront that was having work done on the inside. Food options inside aren't the best, but at least there are some. Honestly, with the proximity of this place, there are a lot of options just right outside too.

I don't come here very often because honestly there's not much really for me. The place has had some upgrades over the years, but it's still pretty basic and not too many options! Here's a quick list: * Nail salon * Kids for less * Footlocker * Shoe City * Rainbow * Five Below * Beauty supply * GNC * TJMaxx * Marshalls * Burlington * Ross (worst I've ever been to) * Dave and Busters (on the top floor) *I'm sure I missed some but this is the majority! The lower level has some food selections but you're better off going outside with way more choices. There's an hourly garage connected to the "mall" and metered street parking!

They've got all the staples: JCPenneys, Costco, Macy's, Target, H&M, plus smaller stores like Five Below and Bed, Bath and Beyond. The food court is huge and continues to grow, with some older spots being replaced by newer options. I was first introduced to this mall in a pretty unconventional way--at a dance event hosted by Urban Dance Artistry. The space was large enough to host a big crowd and still allow for smaller performance pockets, which showed me how versatile the mall space actually is. As far as cleanliness goes, the mall itself is generally clean and bustling with a very diverse crowd, which I love to see. The only downside? The bathrooms could definitely use some attention. They can be messy and not the freshest-smelling at times. Although I do really like that they have a separate area for kids to wash their hands. I'm not much of a mall shopper these days, and a lot of the stores aren't necessarily places I'd go out of my way for. But as a parent? This place is gold. My son absolutely loves the play area. There's also a paid bounce house spot near it (which he thoroughly enjoyed), and they have the indoor train that rides through the mall--which is basically a core childhood memory waiting to happen. It's also a great spot for teens to meet up at. I love that they have a little photo booth to print out 4 pictures on a strip, very nostalgic vibes. It's also super convenient. The Wheaton train station is right there, but it's also a hub for a lot of buses, making public transit access incredibly easy. On top of that, you've got nearby restaurants, Party City, a grocery store, and plenty of other essentials within walking distance. There's even a CVS Pharmacy nearby. Overall, it's a solid, practical, family-friendly mall. Not luxury, not glamorous--but convenient, affordable, and full of things to do--especially if you have kids. Four stars from me.
