Downtown Veterinary Associates has been my veterinary group since I moved from Chelsea, Manhattan to downtown Jersey City in October 2015. Their vets and other personnel have always treated my dogs and cats with the utmost care. Currently, my senior lab mix China has been doing well despite having developed liver cancer. Dr. Mirei Sakane, VMD has been instrumental in guiding me with China's palliative care that I opted for. China is doing very well and we're keeping the cancer at bay. Dr. Sakane has also treated China for the sudden onset of seizures and canine cognitive disorder which have both ended thanks to a cocktail of meds that Dr. Sakane is monitoring for her. The front desk employees (Grace, Christina and others) have all been very helpful and professional as have the skilled techs (Jennifer, Max and others). I can highly recommend this practice and trust them with my three doggies and my cat. read more

PRICE GOUGERS WHO ALMOST KILLED MY 2 CATS Went to these people to get my two cats microchipped and vaccinated for rabies. Somehow, this cost ELEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS! Yes, that's right--$1100 to get two cats microchipped and vaccinated for rabies. (!!!) I don't know why I paid it except that before I even saw a doctor they made me sign that piece of paper saying I was financially responsible for everything and I was afraid they would sue me. They took both cats out of the exam room and back to the tech area--where they treat animals who are sick--to give my cats their shots. In 30 years of owning five cats in three different states, I've never had one of my cats removed from a vet's exam room for routine shots. Roughly a week after being in an area where sick cats are treated, one of my cats--both of whom are 12, strictly indoor, and haven't been even a little bit sick in over a decade--had a life-threatening fever. Brought him back to DVA and gave these people another $800 for bloodwork and sub-q fluids and who-knows-what-all that did absolutely no good, because at 6:00 the next morning my cat's fever spiked EVEN HIGHER and I had to rush him to the 24-hour emergency animal hospital in Hoboken--where, $1000 later, at least I walked out with some antibiotics that actually made my cat well. (Imagine! A veterinary practice where they make sick cats healthy instead of vice versa!) Naturally, a few days later my second cat also started running a fever. I brought her back to DVA because they said they'd treat her for free--and, having spent $3000 over the past two weeks, when all I'd originally budgeted for was two rabies vaccines and two microchips, I didn't feel like I had much choice. They charged me $100 (so much for "free") for different antibiotics than the emergency animal hospital gave me, and one of them made my cat so violently ill that I seriously thought I was going to have to make ANOTHER emergency room trip! (BTW, the exam table in the room they put us in was SOAKING WET with chemical bleach. I had to wipe it down myself with paper towels before I could take my cat out of her carrier--otherwise it would have gotten all over her feet and fur.) This isn't even going into all the administrative nightmares I had with these folks--the appointments I booked through their online system (and got confirmation emails for), or the updated phone numbers I stood in their reception area and personally gave to them, that somehow got eaten and lost by their system. I was, however, repeatedly assured by whichever of their admins I happened to be speaking with that the mistake certainly wasn't *her* fault. So there's that. TL;DR: The people at Downtown Veterinary Associates aren't careful. They aren't conscientious. They aren't compassionate. As far as I can tell, DVA cares very little about animals--although they do seem passionately committed to bilking you out of your cash. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

I trusted the care of my family member furkid with DVA for over 7 years. Yes, i am one of those people that love their canine companion enough to call them a furkid. DVA staffs very nice doctors. The doctors are sweet. The doctors have cute nick names for the patients (like goofy or goofball). The doctors let the sick animals give them kisses. The doctors talk to their patients in baby voices. UNFORTUNATELY, NONE OF THAT will help my pet. I need a veterinarian to administer the care that I am paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars for. I need a vet that will look beyond the scope of the standard everyday issues. It took 2 misdiagnoses, a lot of pain and suffering and thousands of dollars in specialty care to realize that DVA had failed my dog and I miserably. After treating congestive heart failure with "kennel cough" medication for over 4 weeks i brought my baby to a specialist and recieved proper treatment. The biggest reason for the 1 star is that my vet of SEVEN years who was constantly updated (via a veterinarian portal that electronically exchanges patient information between specialist / ER hospital to primary veterinarian office) never called to see how her patient was doing instead the doctor had the "office manager" (a woman i have never spoken to or seen, EVER) call me to explain the doctors actions and offer me a partial refund of all the previous work done for misdiagnosis. DVA is good for the most common basic veterinary services. If you are paying vet fees I suggest paying someone that you can trust will dot their i's and cross their t's because it will save you money and your pets life in the long run. Front desk rating? NEGATIVE 5 stars. I've been going to this establishment for many years. I've always found it to be a bit overpriced, so I limit my visits here for only last minute situations (this was prior to their no walk ins policy). I called on Tuesday morning asking if their no walk in policy was still in place- the person on the phone went on to lecture me about my pet's rabies vaccine. I explained that I have already set an appointment elsewhere . I go on to explain what was going on with my pet and the person whom I was speaking with, Millie, asked if I can make it in 30 minutes. I agreed. She informed me to call once I arrived, to what seemed like standard COVID protocol. Once I arrived I called and she rudely said "just walk in". The first words she murmured to me were "we're still waiting on the doctor just have a seat". I patiently waited, spoke to the tech whom was very pleasant. Tech and Vet? 5 STARS After my pet was seen I spoke to the vet, she was very helpful, explained what might be the issue, and answered any questions I had. She suggested some supplements for my pet that were available at their office but also informed me that an over the counter supplement would suffice. I decided on taking the smaller container. Upon check out I changed my mind about the supplements after I realized I already had purchased something a few days prior, I informed Millie and she seemed irritated, she told me the total for the visit- which seemed a bit high in my opinion. I requested an itemized receipt, she rudely starts to name the items off the bill, she then realized that I was being charged for the supplement. She makes a face and reads the new total "168.10 is that better?" I never got a receipt or a printout for my visit. I just wanted to get out of there. I felt humiliated by her tone, lack of respect and rude demeanor- as I'm about to walk away she says "so you didn't get the rabies vaccine??". I replied "you know it's just overpriced here and also you're not very nice". She's what I call fake nice, she's not genuinely nice, because a genuinely nice person doesn't make comments like that. She yells across the lobby "Meeeeeeee??????? I was the one that set your appointment". I replied "thanks for doing your job". I don't think that she has ANY business scolding clients for not opting to do things at this clinic, it's unprofessional and rude, pushy and unwelcoming, the very opposite of what role as front desk person should be. This place is terrible. I took my dog here because she had a lot of redness in her eye and I know shibas are predisposed to glaucoma. They took her in the back and told me her eye pressure was normal. Well the next day her eye looked worse than it ever did but I just let it go since they said there was nothing wrong. Also they charged $75 to take her blood pressure - is this a joke?? Fast forward 4 months later and my dogs eye still looks bad. I just took her to a specialist and she is completely blind and was diagnosed with glaucoma - which is something that could have been prevented had these people done their job. Who knows what they do back there when they take your dog but all they did to mine was make her go blind and rob me. STAY AWAY! UPDATE - They called me after seeing my review and Maria asked how she could rectify the situation . When I mentioned the price was very high, she was very condescending and rude to me blaming me for not taking my dog to a specialist sooner. She tried to tell me my dog didn't have glaucoma at the time but the ophthalmologist told me this has been going on for months - she didn't go blind overnight!!! read more

I have two pups and have been going to Downtown Vet for ~6 years since I moved to Jersey City. My five stars are for Dr. Chesney. One of my pups is a frequent vet visitor and I am always so happy when Dr. Chesney is on duty. She's so thoughtful and really takes the time to understand the issue and help figure out solutions. I never feel rushed or like I'm a bad dog owner (which has happened before with other vets). She even made a very funny joke once to lighten the mood when I was beating myself up about giving my pup too many treats. Recently my oldest dog has had some back/leg issues and he's been in twice. Dr. Chesney has helped me figure out what's happening and think through next steps and options. She also checked on him after the visit and has been super responsive to email questions -- completely unexpected but very much appreciated. If you are going for routine visits, all of the vets are great. But if you have an issue, try to go when Dr. Chesney is working if you can. She's wonderful! read more

As a longtime customer of Animal Infirmary in hoboken I occasionally have to deal with this office when one of the (awesome) vets are working here and I need to call to speak to them directly. The front desk is night and day compared to Hoboken. Hoboken team so nice and helpful, JC downtown team grumpy and spends the whole call making you feel like you're wasting their precious time. Try to give people the benefit of the doubt but it has been one time too many. read more

If u can make appointments in advance you should look elsewhere though. I have a 2 year old shihtzu, and been coming here since my dog was a puppy, I had a reasonably good experience when I started coming, but during the pandemic, I've switched to another vet since we moved to the suburbs. When we started to move back to JC, we resumed using this vet office, but it has been disappointing. 1. They have moved the logistic from walk-in and wait, to walk in, call, wait outside till they call you, drop off the dog and come back to pick him/her up when the treatment was done. All is fine till the pandemic started getting better, they have changed the logistic yet did not announce it. It was extremely confusing. The process then became you come in with a mask, check in, wait inside for the doctor and service, doctor gives consultation in waiting room, etc. Now the third time when I came in, which was just 2 weeks apart, thinking they shouldn't change the logistic so soon. I walked in, immediately got stopped by one of their front desk ladies saying I had to call to checkin first. So I asked if they changed it back to the old procedure?! She shouted back "It's been like this the whole time!" I was then followed the procedure and called, my wait was 90min. 2. The second time when I went after the pandemic, they were giving my dog the booster shot and he had an allergic reaction. I tried calling them back but they closed early and was not mentioned on their website. I ended up had to call 4 other emergency service to get my dog taken care of. read more

I recommend avoiding this veterinary office. Seems like their primary business is to nickle-and-dime you, and to get you to come in to upsell. They have a large rotating staff of fresh vets, which in itself isn't a problem, but it does create an issue with consistency of care. I've brought both my dog and cat here, and based on both experiences, and follow-up experiences, will go elsewhere. I'd recommend the same to anyone who asks. More recently, they refuse to issue any prescriptions to authorized pharmacies over the phone, and instead want you to come in to pick up the physical prescription from them, for some unknown reason. Additionally, they have poor reading comprehension. I had provided prior medical records for my dog (she was adopted two months ago), which said that she tested negative for heartworms and other tests. The staff refuses to prescribe preventative medicine because the her medical notes did not explicitly say when she was tested (even though it said that in Feb 2019 she tested negative for heartworm). Even disregarding that, this shouldn't have been an issue because when I had her checked up by their vet, he had orally prescribed the medicine, saying that she should be on it. Takeaway: Take your animals somewhere else where you'll have a closer relationship with your vet, and have a more consistent quality of care. read more

I took my cat to get check up, vaccinations, and spay at this vet and we overall had great experience. We made an appointment through emails and app which was very easy and fast. Staff and doctors were very attentive and caring with our cat. They called to follow up with our cat after the surgery to make sure everything is alright. However, I was bit disappointed about their appointment time since I still have to wait about 30mins to an hour outside of the office to get checked in regardless of my appointment time. I believe it might be because they are being very observant with their fur patients. Overall, it's great vet office. read more

Don't waste your money on this vet's office. They don't give accurate diagnosis and front desk people are very rude. Average visit is 2 hours and they only open 5 hours a day. You cant make appointment, it's walk-in only. The vet only give you diagnosis based on what you suggested the issue was. I SERIOUSLY don't think the vets here are qualified to be DVM. I have had so many unexpected emergencies with my puppy over the last 6-months, and Downtown Veterinary Associates has always been right there! The staff, the doctors - everyone is always so friendly and kind. They make time to speak with you, answer your questions, and address any concerns. On several occasions they've been able to accommodate us and squeeze us into the schedule for urgent situations. they've always checked in after these visits whether it's over the phone or email - during the week or on weekends. We've been bringing our two senior dogs here for about a year and a half now. At first, I was worried that being walk-in only would mean long waits but it has turned out to be pretty convenient. We never have to wait longer than we did at a vet where we had an actual appointment - plus we know if there's an emergency we can bring our dog in to be seen that day. Some of the prices are definitely higher than other vets I've been to, but given the area it's to be expected. Also, before doing anything they will always provide your options at both ends of the cost spectrum. We have had two scares with our 13-year-old Boston this year and both times they helped coach us through the best first step without spending a ton of money. The main reason for this review is how they recently guided us through the loss of our dog, Chandler. He had been losing weight and acting noticeably different for about two weeks but last week started to decline a bit more rapidly. We brought him to Downtown Vet 30 minutes before close on Saturday. Rather than pushing us out, we were seen by Dr. Heilpern. He did bloodwork and said he would get back to us by Monday. Dr. Heilpern called us at 7:30 Sunday morning with the results and, in the end, we decided it was best to let go. We spent the day spoiling Chan and told them we would be in at 9am on Monday. When we arrived, I saw the busy waiting room and was nervous about the wait, knowing what was about to happen. Instead, they escorted us right to the back and already had a room ready. He allowed us to have our other dog and Chandler's best friend with us the whole time. Dr. Heilpern and the entire staff was compassionate and caring. They made one of the worst days of our lives a little bit easier. read more

This review is LONG overdue but I had to log in to write it once and for all. I brought my dog here for his health needs for most of the 14 years that I had him, living in downtown Jersey City very close to them. I am confident that he received the BEST medical attention here that one could hope to ask for. The medical staff is very knowledgeable, patient and helpful. The front desk staff and technicians were so warm and friendly, I feel that we became friends of sorts over time. My dog was a very healthy dog in his younger years and I rarely came in more often than an annual checkup or update to rabies vaccination. However, as my dog aged, he started having noticeable mobility issues, stiffness, etc. As a German Shepherd, the fact that his hips started to give him trouble with mobility shouldn't have surprised me. There were a number of standard treatments that most vets would do - Rimadyl, Adequan, cold laser therapy, etc. and we tried them all with varying degree of benefit. My five-star reflects not just the exact quality of the care and services they provided, but the fact that they always listened to me and talked through my concerns and followed up on questions I had asked. Everything they did and suggested to me was to help maintain his quality of life. Most especially noteworthy is the fact that one day the very wonderful Dr Alanna Chesney-Manz suggested that I consider their new acupuncture services. She was just starting out in this area and discussed some of the possible benefits. After some consideration, I went for it and started taking my dog in for regular treatments. It wasn't that it was a miracle, but the procedures seemed to help in a way that some of the other treatments did not. After his treatments he seemed more flexible and less burdened by pain with noticeable improvement in his overall mobility. I truly believe they helped make the last few years of his life as comfortable and pain-free as possible. I'm revising my review of DVS primarily because, over time, they have become dear and special to me and my dogs. It's not as if there is a lack of vets in Hudson County and I could have gone elsewhere. There was just something about changing vets again that didn't appeal to me. Since my last review, I've become a regular of sorts at DVS. My two pugs were pretty high maintenance. My older guy decided it was time to go this past July and DVS helped me to plan and prepare for that in the preceding weeks. They were helpful and supportive. They also sent an amazing handwritten sympathy card shortly after. I was touched. Perhaps this is normal in those types of situations. Considering we are in the NY area, I find this to be exceptional. Now that I'm in the groove with DVS, I'm very happy. They know me when I call on the phone for prescription refills and when I drop in. Doris at the front desk is always great as is everyone else. I'm glad I stuck with them and am very happy to revise my review. read more

Downtown Vet Associates (Jersey City) has been where I have been taking my dogs. The team specifically Jane has been so helpful through the years, always patient even when my dog was a handful! I especially appreciated how they treated us with kindness, patience and care when my previous dog passed during Covid. Their extra effort really helped during that difficult period. The vets that have treated my pets have generally been very kind and knowledgeable, however, this practice is significantly more expensive than others in the area. They have been especially helpful with our cat who is a little needy. Everyone - from the front desk to the vets - have been very helpful. Downtown Veterinary Associates acted in an unethical manner that jeopardized the life of our dog. They treated our family and our dog with disrespect and condescension. I really wanted to have a good experience, but I cannot recommend them after witnessing such gross medical negligence. As you read this review, try to imagine what would have happened if this had been a child. The terrible thing is that what happened was all about ego (I think? I still don't understand.) We recently moved to JC, so we were looking for a new vet. We took our dog who has Addison's disease to get examined and get a Rx refill for his monthly injection (Addison's dogs must have a shot of Percorten V every few weeks or they will lapse into a coma and die. It's very serious but completely treatable with meds) I let the attending veterinarian know that I filled my dog's Percorten V Rx at an online pharmacy. I explained that I place the order and provide contact information for the vet, and then the pharmacy calls the prescribing veterinarian to confirm. Then the pharmacy ships me my dog's medication. The vet said this was no problem, especially because it was urgent and my dog had to have his shot *next week*. I placed the order that day. A few days later my dog's medication still had not arrived so I called the online pharmacy. They let me know that DVA refused to verify the Percorten Rx. So I called DVA. They were extremely rude to me and told me that there were no on-duty veterinarians who would be willing to confirm the Rx over the phone with the online pharmacy. A flat out refusal. Really? I have a paper script in my hand, they have a record of it, and they would not do what they said they would do. Even if they had confirmed the Rx when I called to check, we would not have gotten the drug in time for our dog's shot. They had the audacity to offer to give my dog his shot for half-price (I do the shot at home so It costs me $45 a month compared to the $250+ I've been quoted at vet offices. I have no idea what they would have charged me but it wouldn't have been $45). They *did not do what they sad they would do in the first place.* This is unethical behavior and endangered the life of our dog. Not the kind of people or business practices I want involved with the care of our dogs. Can you imagine if this was a child and a doctor acted this way? In the end, I was able to get our Dog's medication in time, but with no help from DVA. It's really a shame because we had a pretty good experience at the place initially. They were fine with taking our $800 but would not confirm the life-saving Rx that *they wrote* for our dog with an online pharmacy. You should know this if you are considering taking your canine or feline family members there for medical care. read more

I vannot believe the information I just got when I called: I can come at 4pm that is the last time that I can walk in but I could wait until 6pm for a time to see the vet. I can walk in on a Saturday until 12pm but I could wait until 2pm to see the vet. No scheduling of appointments allowed. Apparently I was advised, I need to take a day off from my job to sit for 2 hours to pay $1000 for my dogs. Not good and a complete disrespect for people's time. This is probably the last straw. Tl;dr: this is a great walk-in vet option in downtown JC. I wound up coming here at the recommendation of a friend when I had a kitty cat emergency - my cat had her tail closed in a door and it looked BAD. My usual vet couldn't see her, and as the day went on I could tell it shouldn't wait until the next day. I called Downtown Vet not realizing they were walk-in only, and they told me to bring her right in. I was seen within 10 minutes of arriving, and the doctor was amazing. Dr. Schwartz was super kind, understanding, and took the time to talk to me about what the situation could potentially mean for my cat (and this included possible bill cost). She wound up giving her 8 stitches and a giant bandage. I was instructed to come back 3 days later for a look and bandage change. While I saw a different doctor, they were also kind and did a great job doing a new bandage. I then had to come back two more times for another full bandage change, and each time the vet we saw was great. They were cautiously optimistic but didn't give me any false sense of hope. While it would've been nice to see the same vet each time, they have multiple locations and are walk-in, so I understand the rotation. Like I said above, everyone I saw was great. The front desk isn't overly friendly or welcoming, but they are kind to you when you're interacting with them. Prices seem on-par with other vets I've been to. And they have generous hours that are helpful. read more

This was my first experience here. The vet techs get five stars. Very kind, polite, and considerate. I walked in about 30 minutes before closing, unsure if they would see me. The receptionist said they usually take the last client an hour before closing, but she would squeeze me in. There was a kerfuffle with the paperwork, and a lot of arguing in the hallway (those doors aren't soundproof, kids). I asked everyone I saw if they would prefer I came back tomorrow, as I would have the time and didn't want to rush them. Dr. Ponce feigned politeness and rushed through what I was there for, with an enormous plastic smile on her face. I can see that normally she would have had a kind demeanor, unsure on the patience, but she spoke to me as if I was a child, through gritted teeth, and seemed entirely uninterested in helping me figure out whether or not I needed the optional vaccine I was asking about. They charged me $30 for a nail trim. K9dergarten down the street charges $12. We were sent to DVA by K9dergarten because in order to even get groomed there, your dog needs a Bordotello vaccine. My dog has never been in a circumstance to require it, so she didn't have it (inherited dog.) I would have been fine with a rushed visit if it has been polite and professional. Instead, I was humiliated, stressed out, and I don't think I'll be going back. It's a shame because the vet techs are so great. read more

Everyone was really nice and seemed to care, but I feel like the expense is too much. First, I paid my bill and was looking at the invoice and noticed a $21 charge for a food item I didn't say I wanted, nor had the tech brought out with the medication. They removed it but I felt like it was shady to put that on there without telling me and that if I hadn't looked at my bill closely, I would have just paid $21 for nothing. Also, my cat is 5 years old, yet he received a "geriatric" blood panel. When I asked about this, they told me that this is just what the panel is called and it was not based on his age. If this is the standard panel they give all patients, why? This was not explained to me at all. I left feeling like the main goal was to charge as much as possible, not treat my pet. read more

I used to bring my puppy here for routine check ups. Apparently it was good until yesterday, when I took my puppy to the clinic, as she had diarrhea for the past 2 days. Dr. Irene Lentis was taking care of us. She checked the body temperature, looked at undertail area, at skin and eyes and palpatated the abdomen. I was expecting to be asked to drop off the fecals for analysis or be scheduled for a blood test or anything that might explain the diarrhea. She never proposed any ideas of what could cause the problem, instead I was takling, making assumptions of what it could be. All we got is the antibotics and diet advise, which is fiber diet and plain one. Fiber food for a 5 months puppy? Be serious.This is not a grown up dog, its a growing puppy! Plain diet is chicken and rise. I was gibing rice for the past few days to my dog and when I asked how to cook chiken, Dr. said its already cooked and I can buy it at the facility. She never told me what is the advantage of that special chicken and rice food of theirs. All she cared about is how to sell the food. My dog is my family. I want to see care for her from the vet we trust our baby with. I am sorry Irene Lentis, but I will not recommend my friends to bring their pets to you. Now the clinic gets 1 star. read more

Its hard to really compare as I have never taken my dog to another vet, but Downtown Veterinary is pretty good. Its clean, the wait is never that long, and the doctors/techs seem to actually care about your pet. However, my dog had persistent ear infections for the first two years of her life and the doctors could not pin down the cause. She has floppy ears so she is naturally more prone to this, but at one point the doctors just kind of threw their hands up and said they don't know what's wrong, and they could run some very expensive tests that might find out why, but they weren't confident that the tests would show anything. Putting her on single protein food finally seemed to alleviate the problems in the end. My biggest complaints are that its expensive and they are always trying to push stuff on you. They also gave my dog a 5 in 1 booster shot and she went into anaphylactic shock and nearly died. Perhaps that is not the vet's fault, but it certainly put a bad taste in my mouth and I can't help but wonder if it could have been prevented. The whole ordeal ended up costing about $1000 dollars as well. Unfortunately I don't have a car, so my options are fairly limited and Downtown seems considerably better than the next nearest place in Newport. read more

We took our dog Buster here today for a Checkup and were very pleased. The process was quick and simple to check in and it's great that you don't need an appointment! The tech and vet were both so fantastic. They really took their time making Buster feel comfortable and Dr Oratio was very informative and thorough, answering all my questions and never making us feel rushed despite the fact that she spent so much time examining Buster. We were never pressured to buy anything, and the prices were totally reasonable. To people who think they aren't, it's 2015: healthcare is expensive, but it's an investment that you owe your pet. Buster loved it there so much that he didn't want to leave, even though he got two needle biopsies, blood work, and vaccines...he whined when we left! Haha. Overall, this is a great place, especially for all my fellow MetroVet refugees. read more

If you haven't decided on a place to take your pet for a checkup or for any incidentals that may occur, look into Downtown Veterinary Associates (DVA). We started taking our Enzo there after he had an accident with his leg. When the accident happened, we called DVA and Doctor Ng told us to bring him right in. Doctor Ng was very accommodating with us and the service was great. The staff was very pleasant, helpful and attentive. read more

My two cats have a love-hate relationship with going to the vet. They hate getting conned into their crates (a handful of cat treats in the very back works every time). They also hate getting their temperature taken for very obvious reasons. But we're all in love with the speedy professional service we get at the Downtown Veterinary Associates. Dr. Lauren Stoltze saw both kittens for their annual check up about two weeks ago, and she was patient and loving with both of them -- very necessary when you're trying to take a kitty's temperature, check her ears and teeth, etc. It's a little pricey, but the service is great. read more

I was happy with the care my cats receive here. Routine visits cost a reasonable fee, although when one of our cats needed some surgery, it was pricier than we had expected. That said, the care was excellent and our cat recovered very well, which is, of course, the most important thing. The only real complaints I'd have is that the place can be crowded on weekends, so don't plan on a quick visit. Also, I wish the staff treated people as well as they treat the animals--it is not the friendliest vet clinic I've ever visited. But the bottom line is that so long as our pets get great care, that's all that matters, and we have been happy with the Downtown Veterinary Associates on that score. read more

The only veterinarian that I've ever really been to, but I can say with all honesty... it's the best veterinarian I've been to. (ha!) But, seriously... they are awesome. For me, they are literally 3 doors down, so convenience? Check! Cleanliness? Yup! Great customer service? Absolutely. I brought my dog here for a regular health exam, and they were more than accommodating. Dr. Barbaries (spelling?) was professional, friendly, and so nice. She gave me all the estimated costs and didn't try to push me into unnecessary procedures. She really seemed to care about Harvey and me and gave honest, great advice. Everyone else was awesome too, and I didn't think the costs were unfair at all. $79 for exam and rabies vaccination. $29 for eye ointment. Pets are expensive, and ~$100 for a visit and medicine seems reasonable to me. It doesn't seem like you need an appointment, just call ahead and make sure. I'm positive that as long as I'm in JC, I'll be going to DVA. read more

I had a horrific experience with my Chi at Newport Animal Hospital and we've been taking our two dogs and cat here ever since. Ok, maybe they are a little pricey but you get what you pay for! I can't praise the staff and vets here enough. Dr. Munro is unbelievable!! She is caring, has a kind, gentle manner and our animals really like her. I also really like Dr. Ng. You don't need an appt and everyone is so friendly I would never consider going somewhere else. Love love love them! read more
