Ask the Community - Downtown Yoga Center

I just turned 65 and a beginner do you have a class for that ? lol , but seriously

Absolutely! Our slowest and most beginner-friendly classes are usually Yin or Yin + Flow classes - they're a great way to get comfortable with the poses and your practice, and you can always move on from there. Hope this helps!

I understand why people value the Yoga Farm's community vibe, which is why this was so…read moredisappointing. When I signed up for the 6-week, 90-minute massage series, Carrie was explicit about the rules: pay in full, choose dates up front, and no makeups for missed appointments--flat tire, flu, etc. Zero flexibility. I didn't love the rigidity, but I accepted it. I had a serious fall on my sacrum and booked a 90-minute session, expecting the full time because it mattered to my care. The session ended after 60 minutes due to Carrie's scheduling error. The owner who had so emphatically read me the rules riot act; I was very shocked at such a mistake. When I asked about the time, Carrie briefly acknowledged the mistake and apologized, but it felt emotionally disconnected and there wasn't a sincere effort to repair the impact in the moment. When I said that "I'm sorry" didn't cut it, she turned around and went back upstairs. I was stunned. After I followed up to communicate the impact and request accountability, I was told there had been a "pow wow" and that I was no longer welcome, and how did I want to get my refund. When I spoke with Matt during pickup, it was framed as protecting the "SAFETY" of the one student who was there when I came out--leaving me portrayed as an aggressive threat for having an upset and a real emotional reaction to her shallow and disconnected apology. It seems that the peace and love vibe is contingent upon "acceptable" emotions verses anything remotely real. They have every right to refuse service. My issue is how this was handled: strict, inflexible rules for clients--yet minimal accountability and care when the mistake was entirely theirs and it affected my well-being. I cannot recommend this massage service if you need professionalism under pressure or compassionate repair when something goes wrong.

I assumed it was going to be just like those annoying videos you watch, WRONG! Carrie and Matt are real! Not only do they help you understand exactly what you need to do, Carrie can modify each pose to work for you. They care; what an unheard of characteristic. They listen to you and your body! They make the farm such a safe place for you to be yourself. I am thankful to have met such a wonderful couple to help me on my fitness journey (mind and body).
