My experience with Corewell Health was disturbing enough that I would strongly caution others…read morebefore trusting this facility with their care. Their facilities appear dirty and poorly maintained. More concerning was the staff. Several employees I encountered seemed confused, poorly prepared, dismissive, or unnecessarily rude. At times, I was left wondering whether basic standards of professionalism and patient care were being taken seriously at all. The most disturbing incident, however, had nothing to do with cleanliness or competence. I personally overheard two nurses laughing while discussing a patient and what sounded to me like a deliberate decision to avoid or delay responding to his needs because he was a Muslim from Iraq or Lebanon. I cannot know everything surrounding that patient's care, and I am not claiming knowledge beyond what I personally witnessed. What I can say is that I heard the conversation myself, and what I heard was appalling. If staff members are intentionally allowing a patient's heritage an--to affect how promptly or respectfully they receive care, that deserves serious investigation. Patients entering a healthcare facility are often frightened, sick, injured, or otherwise vulnerable. They should not have to wonder whether the person responsible for their care approves of their religion before deciding how quickly to help them. Between the condition of the facility, the behavior and apparent confusion of multiple staff members, and especially the conversation I overheard, I left with virtually no confidence in this facility. Corewell Health should be investigate for this. Patients deserve competent care, a clean environment, basic professionalism, and equal treatment. None of those things should depend on race or religion.

After contacting Dr. LaGrand's office, I was able to set an appointment for 3 weeks later. She is very nice, a great listener, doesn't judge you and is gentle(which is important when it comes to awkward and uncomfortable pap smears). I can't say my anual exam was PLEASANT but it was as pleasant as it could have been. My only complaint, and the only reason I didn't give her 5 stars, is after being brought back, I waited for her for about 45 minutes. The nurse said she was reviewing my chart. But I didn't have anywhere to be, and if you are a woman, you know that good gynos are hard to find...so she was worth the wait.

I absolutely love Dr. Gracias! He is the most compassionate surgeon that I have had the pleasure of…read moremeeting and being a patient of. During my first appointment he took time to show me my MRI results, pointed out the problem area, and discussed options. He did not give me false hope that the nerve damage I was having would ever resolve even after surgery. He was very honest that the sensations that I had lost may not return. I respect a doctor who is wiling to admit they can't fix everything. Additionally, he not only cares for you as his patient but he involves your family, or those who will be helping you during recovery/treatment, in your appointment and care should agree to that. He kept them well updated during my surgery so there was no worrying on their end. During my aftercare, he would ask about my mother or daughter if they happen to not be with me during my appointment. Involving a patient's support system in appointments and care has been medical proven to increase success in treatment and recovery. Dr. Gracias's professionalism with staff in his office and at the hospital was also admirable. Most surgeons I have had contact with, from working in a hospital for 13 years, often are egotistical and demeaning to staff around them. However, this was not the experience I had with Dr. Gracias. He was very polite to those working with him and even those who he passed in the pre-op area. The two things that touched me the most and made me realize that Dr. Gracias was a doctor who truly cared for his patients was first, in pre-op when he came to talk to me before surgery, a clergy member was praying with me. He quietly came in, put his hand on my shoulder and prayed with us. I had tears running down my face. Most doctors would leave the room and return moments later or interrupt the prayer to hurry the case along. Yes, I actually had an anesthesiologist interrupt a prayer during pre-op for a hip surgery. Secondly, in the OR room, my heart rate and blood pressure where elevated. I told those in the OR room prepping me that I was horribly anxious and fearful about going under anesthesia and about possible experiencing uncontrollable post op pain. The anesthesiologist just told me to take deep breaths to help calm down and walked away from me. Dr. Gracias came into the room and routinely asked the nurse my vitals. She informed him that they were elevated and explained what I had said about my fears. He walked over and looked me in the eyes and said to have no fear because he would care for me like I was his own daughter lying in that table. Maybe it was the gentleness in his voice or the compassion in his eyes, but I knew everything would be okay. Then the drugs kicked in and I drifted off to la-la land But he kept his promise! I highly recommend this doctor for all of your surgical neurology needs. He has truly been gifted by God to do great work in the medical world. He practices with a level of compassion that has been lost by the medical community. God bless!

For quite a while I was solely seeing PA's because you can get in with them basically the same day and they are just as good as any doctor. The front desk staff and nurses here seem to be a revolving door, but the PA's are a familiar face. Recently had a health concern mystery and feel like I was pretty brushed off. After months of symptoms, I was referred out by my Dr, and in contact with the office regarding results for one week. Then I fell off the map and even upon reaching out, still didn't hear back. Their facility is always very clean and nice. Dr O is very cheery and nice to work with. She can really give you the impression that she actually cares about you.

I am a 100% disabled Veteran with severe combat PTSD, who is terrified of doctors and hospitals…read more After I returned from the 1st Gulf War, I was among the very first to be diagnosed with Gulf War Illness, and was ordered to go to a major hospital for a years worth of extremely invasive and painful medical experimentation. Since then, going to the doctors is the absolute hardest thing to do in my entire life. I discovered I had 2 kidney stones after an E.R. visit at Metro Hospital, one large and one small. The large one was threatening to fall into my ureter and block it off, which would have been a disaster. The VA sent me to Urological-Consultants Of Grand Rapids, where I saw Dr. Dehaan. Both he and his entire office staff were very kind to me, as I told them the above-mentioned details of my fear of doctors and hospitals. Dr. Dehaan scheduled me for the least invasive procedure possible, a Shockwave Lithotripsy, where there is no incision, which I really appreciated. When I arrived for the procedure, Dr. Dehaan had already informed everyone at the surgical center of my deep seated medical fears, and they were all so very kind, patient, accommodating and understanding, that it really touched my heart. Though it was still very difficult for me, they made it as easy as they possibly could, and I am forever grateful to each and every one of them! From the technicians, my main Nurse, Mary, all of the other Nurses, Anesthesiologist and of course my surgeon, Dr. Dehaan, they were the best medical team I have ever dealt with! Dr. Dehaan did an absolutely magnificent job shock-waving the 2 kidney stones, crushing them into tiny grain of sand sized pieces, that I promptly peed out within the first 24 hours of the procedure! It only took me 2 days to get back to full activity, including weight lifting and pull-ups, which was simply amazing to me! If I ever have to have anything Urologically related done again, I will not go to anyone other than Dr. Dehaan and his staff, and I highly recommend that anyone reading this, that requires Urological help does exactly the same thing, you will NOT regret it!
