I love visiting Locke. It's such a cool little town and honestly feels like stepping back in time…read more Walking down the street and seeing the original buildings, museums, and small shops makes you realize how much history is still preserved here. There's something really special about Locke. It hasn't lost its character and doesn't feel overly touristy. You can just walk around, read the historic markers, explore, and take everything in at your own pace. I think everyone should visit at least once, especially if you live nearby. It's an awesome way to learn about local history and experience a part of the Delta that still feels authentic and untouched. Definitely one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon.

My family and I came to Locke for their annual Chinese New Year Celebration on February 14, 2026…read more Locke is an old Chinese settlement about 1 mile north of Walnut Grove on State Route 160. The 14 acre town was established in 1915 after a fire destroyed Chinatown in Walnut Grove. The town has approximately 90 residents, now days only about 10 of them are Chinese. There is remnants of the once thriving Chinese culture such as the Boarding House, Dai-Loi Gambling House, Jan Ying Museum, Joe Shoong Chinese School, Lock Chinese Medicine, Chinese Culture Shop, etc., many of which much have been transformed into a museum. There are a few random stores such as an art gallery, thrift shop, Lockport Grill & Fountain and Al's Place (formerly called Al the Wop). Unfortunately the Locke Garden Chinese Restaurant is no longer there. During Chinese New Year, all the museums were open, most with docents to help tell the story and to answer any questions. Not when the museums are open on normal days. If you want a tour of Chinese museums, I would suggest you contact the Locke Foundation for more details and information (https://locke-foundation.org).

What was once a worthwhile club appears to be in clear decline. From my direct experience, the…read morewarning signs are hard to ignore: management turnover, frustrated employees, and ownership that no longer seems willing to invest in the club's future. Prospective buyers should look closely before committing. The fleet is now made up of aging boats, roughly 4-6 years old, and the wear is evident. Inventory has reportedly been reduced from 9 boats to 5, including only 2 surf boats, while pricing remains unchanged. At the same time, members are being asked to move to an "unlimited bookings" model that still limits usage to no more than 3 bookings per month!!! Last season alone, boats experienced issues ranging from failed ballast pumps and broken amps to damaged railings and inconsistent availability. Yet despite reduced inventory, aging equipment, and declining service levels, ownership appears intent on maintaining the same pricing without meaningful reinvestment. Anyone considering joining should do their homework, verify the facts independently, and speak with former members. Membership has reportedly fallen from 42 to 17 and continues to trend downward. That kind of decline does not happen without reason.

Instructions were provided concisely in an easy to understand format for new drivers. We rented a Chaparral for 4 hours on Labor Day and it couldn't have gone smoother. The boat was in excellent condition and everyone had a great time. Gas came out to about $57, keeping in mind we had 5 adults, lots of food, and towed a tube during our rental period. Definitely recommend Berryessa Water Sports and will see them again soon!
