The owners are knowledgeable about what they are making, where it is coming from, and the way they grow and prepare the majority of the food they make! Retired to our room (Shepherd's Loft) with a very tasty bottle of wine, complimentary treats, and a movie. Our room was perfect for us, the smallest one I think, but plenty of room and a very nice bathroom. Even though the part of the house was built in the 20's, everything seemed new. Got wifi in our room. The bed and linens were super comfy. Breakfast was at a not-too-early 9:00am and was delicious. I was glad I didn't make lunch plans, we were barely hungry by dinner time. We got a fun little tour of the winery operations downstairs by Chris. We couldn't get the sheep or donkeys to come to the fence to be pet, but they are friendly. Sadly we had to head onto the next leg of our trip, otherwise we would have done some of the trails. Sherry and Chris were really nice, personable, and funny. We absolutely loved our short stay and plan to come back next year. I didn't leave for a good 20 minutes after talking to a patron and the manager behind the bar. They don't do a fish fry, they bake. But they pointed us to the Whitehall golf and pub. The ambiance of Outright Affair is reminiscent of times gone by. Without eating there, I saw five star service and ambiance of a local tavern. We will return for the food next year, since we were only staying local for a very short time.

OMG the food was amazing. The view of the golf course was beautiful. If I lived in this area, I would be here every Friday. We returned on Sunday morning for brunch. We were not disappointed. If the food and view were not enough, we were treated as if we were old friends by the restaurant staff. It was obvious, that the regular patrons were welcomed guests. More importantly, we were welcomed in the same manner. I can't wait until next year, when we return to the area for the Ashley for the Arts Festival.

Went to the campground last night, Saturday for their Campfire Concert Series pt 2.on what my…read moreweather app said would be the most perfect night. I had emailed earlier n the week to inquire about attending the gig despite not being a camper? Owner Jamie had responded it was open to the public. As we turned in we were too busy looking off in the distances to notice that the stage was RIGHT there next to the Camp Store and just steps from the parking lot! When we sauntered up with our chairs we were pleasantly surprised to see a ring of a dozen chairs around a fire pit. There were even a couple of food trucks in the parking lot, what a wonderful offering. Also took in the sights of the tall sunflowers in a... are those tomatoes? Is that a garden? Along the wall of the Store was all bikes; I didn't inquire if they were rentals or just for any camper to use; regardless a nice offering. While the band was soundchecking I took notice of a woman setting up paints on the two picnic tables n front of the Store... a kids or family activity, flag making? How fun! It was time for the set to start.... the vocalist gave a shout out to owners Jamie and Ann. Jamie took to the microphone to welcome everyone and talk about the campground and how it gives back. I apologize I don't recall all that was said or the definitions. He mentioned the community garden and hat if the crops are laying on the table, help yourself. The campground is part of the SHIP Grant..,so it gets money from the state for the garden and to host these events; despite possibly not being accurate in my description it was an interesting and lovely note. So my review isn't about actually camping but.... if I were to get back in to camping, Prairie Island would be on the top of my list!! From my seat I could see the Fish Cleaning house, a bathroom and the river. Thank you Prairie Island for an enjoyable outdoor event in the most welcoming of venues and wonderful hospitality! As I scanned around during soundcheck... I appreciated that once the gig began you brought out a hat on a racket for band tips! Then mid-show a guy picked it up and brought it around for people to put in their money; very cool. Don't skip past Prairie Island if you're looking for an outdoor getaway.....this place definitely had the nostalgia pumping hard for my youth and all the camping my parents had us doing all summer long. This past weekend was my first weekend camping here but also my first weekend camping ever... *cue…read morethe gasps* I don't know how I've gone all my life without camping once but yet I have. Aside from being eaten alive by mosquitos and chased around by a pesky wasp all weekend, it was a good time! Though, I would accredit this to having awesome company. The site wasn't what I expected it to be when I arrived. I was expecting more green grass, more trees, and an abundance of tents. However, there was a lack of greenery and more trailers, campers, and RVs than tents - which was a bit disappointing. It seemed like people live there during the summer because their sites were well established and decorated. The campsite has a general store with the essentials but I'm not sure if prices were reasonable or not. What wasn't reasonable was that firewood was $10 per bundle... As for other prices, I believe that they charge you per night and per tent, as well as for electricity if you choose to use it. We were only charged $140 for the weekend - there were 14 of us, we had five medium-large tents, one camper, bought two firewood bundles, and used electricity. However, we weren't charged for much aside from firewood and a couple of tents. Not sure if the owners didn't realize we had extra tents/used electricity or they were just being nice. The best part of campsite was that there were showers and actual toilets in addition to outhouses and porta-potties on site. I'm a huge germaphobe so this was a relief - which now that I think about it, this is probably the reason why I've never gone camping... Overall, not a bad experience but we'll probably go somewhere else next time.
