And what a booming town this little hamlet used to be. And that is why you should tour Redstone Castle. You need to buy your tour ticket in town. Give yourself another 10 minutes to drive up to the castle, park, and get over to the castle. But it isn't really a castle. No moat. No drawbridge. No turrets or towers. It's just a big house. And considering I live in Boston Metrowest - I have friends who live in larger, more ornate, tackier houses. Most of the first floor of the house has been kept in "original" condition. But since the castle has been operated as a bed and breakfast or inn by previous owners, all of the bedrooms have been updated. No telling if there is any resemblance to the original. Also, most of the furniture is NOT the original stuff, so again not sure if any of the stuff is even period pieces. It is still cool to walk around. And imagine living there 100 years ago. It's really about the coal, not the castle.

Our favorite part for our two teenage boys was standing up in the jeep and taking it all in. My 74 year old mother also stood up for a little bit! So this experience is for all adventure lovers. This is a family owned and operated business that's been around for decades. They are friendly and professional Our guide was so informative and fun, but he was also cautious and safe! The last half hour I realized I was happy that we didn't do the longer loop because all the jostling and bumping was catching up to me. It was still worth it, but I was ready to be done.

We had a beautiful tour through still water ranch. With two black brother and sister Mules. This company does a beautiful thing, they rescue horses from the slaughter house They offer private or group sleigh rides. They also do carriage rides in town. We opted for just the 4 of us and boy was it magical. The trail was lined with beautiful trees and snow and mountain homes tucked around us. The ranch is on the back side of aspen mountain and has a stream running through it. We stopped for photos and were able to walk out on a precious little bridge they call "proposal walk" The owner offered us hot chocolate and did a great job telling us about the property. And surrounding homes/area. It was such a beautiful ride! I'll cherish it forever. Men, if you have a girl and you want to make her your wife.... if she likes snow and mountains and horses and streams. Uhhhhh I think this is your spot. You will never find a more magical setting. The owner even shared that he had a ride timed perfect with the New Years fire works on aspen mountain. She thought they were getting out to watch the fireworks from the bridge and he got down on one knee swoon! I mean regardless of whether it's New Years or not it's still a beautiful spot for a proposal. And for us, it was a wonderful relaxing way to start the new year! We loved our hour and a half afternoon ride I'll share some photos now!

They have a little convenience store…read morethere at the campground area that sells snacks, drinks (including alcohol - they even had bottles of wine) and other souvenirs eg earrings and shirts. They have a nice clean bathroom that is only available to customers; I found a cute pair of earrings for $10 and used the bathroom before shipping out. Effortlessly beautiful. This is the exact spot where you turn for the long, winding road toward Crested Butte, cutting straight through what is the greatest aspen stand in the world. I haven't been received by the hotel yet, but honestly, based on location alone, it's a future no-brainer. When those aspens go golden in the fall, this area is unreal. There's something magical about being right at the gateway to that drive. For anyone who loves Colorado the way New Yorkers love a great view and a great story, Kebler Corner already earns five stars.
