The wind picked up the moment we arrived as if to signal the entrance into another world. And what a world it was! How fitting it was that we left with a fantasy birdhouse purchased from that sleepy little town. When we saw its twin on the mantle, we knew we had to have one just like it. And if I could sum up this experience entirely, it would be exactly that: It is such a nice place that you never want to leave, so you just have to take something of it back with you. My partner Justin and I are suckers for nature and for getaways in general. We both work hard and when we need time to recharge, we head away to some fantastic destination and get all of that stressful energy out. This trip was particularly special because of how cozy and home-like Dragonhead is. It is truly a way to get away, but still feel at home. Jeff and Kathy are master hosts and their retreat is so beautiful and warm. One day, while we were out eating and shopping in Edom, we returned to find a hammock had been hung while we were away. Jeff was kind enough to stop by and do this and it was such a nice surprise. One night, we hiked up the hill to the fire pit and lit ourselves a fire and had s'mores. A s'mores kit is provided and ready for you on the table when you check in, and we certainly took advantage of that! The entire experience was flawlessly executed. The pictures do the space no justice at all. It is so wonderful! Kathy is a great communicator and was with us every step of the way. Her husband, Jeff is a true gentleman and will engage you for a chat if you're willing. There are a few animals that roam the land, including a very friendly and very cute dog. The whole place just feels like visiting family out in the woods. Edom itself is an artist town. Ask Jeff about the history and he'll be happy to tell you all about it! It really is quite fascinating. Make sure you check out The shed cafe in town for the best country food and pie for miles around! The guest book is full of stories from guests who have walked the path before you. Be sure to check it out. We will be back whenever the pressures of life force us that way again. Our family enjoyed East Texas! Dragonhead offers nature, art and peace! If you need to get some groceries or want to dine out. There is Tyler, Ben Wheeler, Edom and Canton down the road! We enjoyed seeing the Rose garden and making plans for a trip back for Canton Trade days. Our beds slept well! I was worried, I'm a side sleeper and a comfortable bed is a must! We enjoyed drinking some hot tea and watching the deer eat and even ate out of our sons hand! Was nice having so much freedom with the owners living on the property. We only saw Kathy or Jeff when we had questions or wanted to start a bonfire. Safety first! Other than that, they respected our privacy and stayed out of our way. We were there 3 days and 1 of the days we had a gathering of 25 ppl and there was plenty of room to play games, dance, drink and just enjoy friendship! The daylight helps you enjoy 25 acres of trails, nature and beauty. Nighttime opens a world if wonder and imagination with such beautiful stars everywhere! Great place for any age, sex, religion or race! We had a group of straight ppl, gay folks, blacks, whites etc. All were respected and welcomed by the owner Kathy . Was a memorable mini vacation! Definitely RECOMMEND this Resort for a casual gathering, a wedding, a team meeting, family reunions, girls trip, boys trip, solo trip, couples weekend! The things to do at Dragonhead are endless then if you want to shop or get out and learn about the beautiful art all throughout the retreat, Edom is down the road!! read more

My wife planned a 3day getaway for my 50th birthday. There was room for everyone, something to do for all ages! We had guests aging from 12-78 and everyone was smiling and excited about something they learned or saw at Dragonhead Retreat! We did not travel to see other attractions in Tyler, Canton nor Edom. We wanted to just enjoy being unplugged from the City and enjoy no phones, no TV, no job just laughs, conversations and relaxation! Kathy is amazing Owner and was available to answer any questions about local artist or events. She even blessed us with a small concert with morning coffee and conversation! More ppl need to learn about this place! A woman of color, it's important to feel safe and respected. I felt all of that during our 3 day stay! This is the best "middle of nowhere" place to go with kids. The innkeeper, Kathy, had lots of things to do with kids: they had bubbles, kitties and puppies to pet, ping pong, nets for catching bugs, bug containers (so I could look at them too but with out actually touching a bug!), she even made a scavenger hunt for them and a s'mores kit for the family. The guest house and "bottom cabin" are so unique in design. Now my kids want a loft at our house too! The other innkeeper, Jeff, is an architect. They even let us tour "their place" next door. It's just a beautiful house on a beautiful piece of property. And although it is away from everything (that's why we went!) they do have Wifi available, so you are not completely isolated and its still only a 30-45 minute drive to find restaurants and movie theaters. We stayed 3 nights (Friday-Monday) at Dragonhead Retreat to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday, and it couldn't have been more perfect. Family came in from all over, and the space had something for everyone -- from age 8 to 79! The property was peaceful and spacious, with plenty of amenities. We danced, laughed, ate, and the kids held a ping pong tournament before hopping on their bikes to explore the trails. We ended Saturday night around the bonfire -- such a beautiful way to wrap up the day. A huge thank you to the hosts, Kathy and Jeff -- truly kind, welcoming people. We even invited them to join the party because they were just that great. 10/10 experience. We've already booked two more months to unwind before moving into our new home. Can't wait to come back and see the new trails and additions! read more
