This review is specifically for a men's haircut from Tom. I'll start by saying that I'm relatively picky about who cuts my hair. I wear my hair a little longer than most guys, and therefore I appreciate a little more finesse and attention to detail than most barbers around the city generally provide. I moved to Boston in 2007 and tried haircuts from half a dozen different places, all of which were well known and had solid reviews. Each time, I walked away feeling like I got a mediocre cut. It was either a "salon" cut, from a woman who mainly cuts other women's hair and worked awkwardly around my short hair, or it was a typical barber shop cut, where I'd be in and out in 15 minutes after the electric clippers had been harshly and injudiciously applied to my entire head. Then, I found Tom. Tom is an outstanding barber who embodies a rare combination of precision, detail orientation, and artistic ability that I have yet to encounter in any other barber in or out of Boston. The first thing I notice about Tom (and have always appreciated) is his professionalism. He greets me every time I come in with a firm handshake and a smile. After he offers me something to drink, we approach his barber chair (which he makes sure to swivel towards me just so I don't have to walk 2 additional steps). He then begins the consulting process - looking at my hair to see how it's grown since my last visit, and listening intently as I detail what type of cut I'd like. I feel like he always instantly gets what I'm requesting, and knows exactly how he's going to execute it. He even moves like a professional while he's cutting my hair: always sharp and precise, but with a fluidity that exudes confidence. Tom is always willing to spend a little extra time on my hair to "get it right", and that's something I truly appreciate. I always leave Dramatics feeling like I received a great haircut, and have never been disappointed in the 6 years I've been going to Tom. The only thing I'll say that could be improved is this: since he cuts hair at a salon, he doesn't (as of yet) have a "man's" barber chair. It would be nice if there were a more masculine chair that I could sit in to sort of differentiate him and the service he's providing from the other stylists. Regardless, I think I'd sit on a milk crate if I had to in order to get a cut from Tom. Bottom line: you can always expect a great haircut from Tom. Whether you just want a simple and quick men's haircut, or a longer, more complex cut, he can do both with the same detail orientation and precision. I would be shocked if you didn't leave Tom thinking it was the best haircut you've ever received, which is why I go from Boston to West Bridgewater once every month to see him. read more

I'm so surprised no one has reviewed this salon yet! I have been going to Dramatics since I was a sophomore in high school. I saw Nikki (who, sadly left.... so I'll most likely stop going since she was the reason I loved this salon... she was amazing at foiling!). On a typical visit, whether it were a touch up or partial or full foil, Nikki always did an amazing job. Their prices are decent... the typical cost was around 120 before tip... for a full foil it ran around 160. This seems like a deal since other salons in Boston are almost double!~ All in all... the hair stylists are extremely amiable and super chatty, the decor is cool, and the location is convenient with plenty of parking plus it's extremely easy to get to. However, now that Nikki is gone I'll most likely stick local for now on =) read more

Excellent service here. I appreciate their evening and Saturday hours, making it convenient to come in after work. They do an excellent job with my highlights and cut, and straightening my very curly, thick hair. Today was my first time coming in for an eyebrow wax. I was excited to know that I didn't even need to make an appointment, and was taken right in. Friendly service and a great experience. read more

I've gone there since before the turn of the century. Sometimes the beauty parlor aromas can be overwhelming; the music can be too loud; and getting out of the parking lot can require a prayer to Saint Jude. But all in all, it's a nice place and the staff and prices keep me coming back. read more

Had my eye brows waxed here and had a bad outcome. Im sure this was probably just "one of those things", however both my eye lids were burnt and took about 5 days to heal. I called to speak to the manager, left my name and waited for a return phone call. Never received a phone call back. Stopped into the salon a few days after to show and speak with the manager, however he wasnt in. I had a very nice conversation with another employee about the products used etc. He also took my name, but to date, I have not heard from the manager, and at this point, a little too late. So, be warned, if you run into any problems at this salon, it will not be acknowledged. Poor management. I would have been satisfied with a courtesy call, from the manager and my $15.00 back. Apparently this was too much to ask. I will no longer be getting any services here. read more

I had been going to Dramatics for a couple of years now. My first stylist was amazing. I have previously gone there not feeling too hot and left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. But that all changed... Unfortunately, my original stylist left. I went in for an appointment with a new one and decided that anything not to my liking (I don't like giving stylists a hard time while I am in their chair) was fixable and not the end of the world. My last appointment was a disaster! I asked for a balayage and came in with several pictures as a reference. One thing I am particular about when it comes to my hair is a more natural look. And I made that clear to the new stylist - specifically that I want the balayage to be gradual and not see harsh lines. I was going for a dark brown base color with some light pieces to break it up for the summer. Instead, my hair was streaky to say the least. It looked like I let highlights that I gave myself from a frosting cap grow out for 4 months. There was also a 1.5" chunk of blonde in the back of my head. You could clearly see where the bleach was applied! The stylist said she had a hard time with it because when she was in hair school, she was trained to get highlights as close to the root as possible. That's all well and good, but if you can't perform the service, don't do it. I could tell the owner was concerned about it because he came over and tried talking it up. Again, I don't like to cause scenes in a chair. I was clearly unhappy. But I quietly got up, paid for the service, and left with no intention of ever returning. I cried on my way home. My hair was ruined. I then went to Sally's and found a dye to tone it down. I am now very hesitant to even step foot in a salon. In all, I truly feel that Dramatics Luxe Salon and Spa has gone downhill. The overall impression of the place is that they just want your money. They don't care about the customer experience at all. read more

you CANT walk in and ask for any service.they don't have enough help and don't know how to book appts properly.they don't seem friendly or hungry for business and have attitudes.also when you call,you are put on hold and it can take 2 weeks for a simple apt ,nope,over priced,attitude and no openings.the old owner was great,these new people need lessons on making new clients feel welcome.stay clear..... read more

This place has a nice atmosphere but do not go to Renee. Kate was great but she left the salon and I don't know where she went so I was scheduled with Renee. I am a blonde and often get highlights to lighten it up. I booked a week in advance and scheduled a full foil. When I came in Renee was rushing and tried convincing me to get on a few highlights on the top which wouldn't even be a partial. She was very convincing even though I truly wanted a full I agreed. I then realized why she had been convincing me to only do a few highlights it was because she had a girl coming in for a prom up do after me and she was rushing. I feel that I am just as important as that girl going to her prom, and she shouldn't have rushed me out to take care of that girl. It was my birthday that day and my hair salon appointment was my birthday present from a family member. So it was important to me. Once I left I realized there was so much dark hair left not highlighted It looked bad and she missed a huge portion in the front of my hair. I called and said I was unsatisfied with it and wanted a full done. The manager agreed and said I could come in free of charge to fix it. Then once I arrived Renee had lied to the manager and said that I wanted it that way and never wanted a full! And the manager was rude to me and said if I wanted it fixed I would need to pay. So I said fine I'll pay. Renee made very rude comments to me and then just didn't speak to me the rest of the time she did my hair. And she refused to tone it for me at the end. Also she charged me more than what was quoted to me for the price of a full. I was quoted $90 and she said it was $150 such a rude person I will never ever go back there. My feeling is if u make a mistake your job is to satisfy the client and make them happy. I was never cold or rude to her I just simply said I felt you rushed and I was not satisfied and she was just mean and heartless towards me and got her manager to side with her when I am the client I did nothing wrong. It was my birthday and I wanted a nice experience and did not get it. She kept telling me oh you don't need a full you'll be fine with just a few highlights on the top when that's not what I wanted, and I t wasn't in interest of me it was for her self to save her time and to get her other client ready for her prom. read more
