Upon googling this product, it states, "The main disadvantages of butyl tape are heat sensitivity, weak chemical resistance, and a lack of structural rigidity. Kejian Polymer Materials (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd +2 Temperature and Weather Limits Melting in high heat: Extreme or prolonged heat can make the tape overly soft, causing it to ooze, bleed, or lose its grip. Stiffening in the cold: Freezing temperatures make the tape stiff and hard to apply or shape correctly. UV degradation: Unprotected tape can break down over time when exposed to constant sunlight." This is a professional company and I would expect that they use appropriate materials that would be trouble free in all weather conditions for far more than 15 years. The owner, J. K. Jones quoted me $55. per replacement window (of which I have 8, so far, out of 54) and I'd have to hire someone to install the replacements locally, furthering my expenditure. And that's without knowing if they still use the same butyl tape that failed. Even though the doors never encounter rain and are mostly protected from the sun, as they are covered by substantial eaves, Mr. Jones is sticking to his 2 year warranty when it was Doors by Decora's choice to use a product which is inappropriate in all weather conditions, for which they take no responsibility. It's quite disappointing.

This summer we had Steve, the owner, come back again and advise us regarding issues we had with our sunroom. Rather than demolition of the structure and and starting from scratch, Steve advised us to have new doors and gutters installed and the roof resurfaced with a rubber membrane which ended up saving us thousands of dollars since there was little demo involved and the original structure was utilized effectively. The project went so well that we asked him to replace the windows, as well. Our room looks fantastic, and we are getting compliments from everyone who sees it. We are so pleased with his workmanship, his crew, and all the products that we are having him come back to install a new Seamless Steel Roof!! 5 star work all the way around.
