I took "The Dream Tour" last week. The experience began with an hour long presentation by kennel co-owner Vern Halter. Vern Halter has run the Iditarod and Yukon Quest many times. He talked about the races, the dogs and mushing in general. The lecture was very interesting and I learned a lot. After the presentation we suited up in massive suits, boots, hats and gloves. In the yard, we watched as the staff got the teams ready. I hooked one dog up to the sled. Vern designed the sleds himself so two people could stand up and drive the sled. If standing up is a problem, riders can sit in the basket instead. Half the group left in a van while the rest of us headed out on the sleds. The ride is seven to eight miles. For the first half of the ride the guide was in front. Half way through we changed places. It had snowed recently, so the ground was covered in fresh snow. The trees were loaded down with snow and the mountains were beautiful. The dogs run slower than I expected, so it was a very leisurely ride through absolutely beautiful country. At the end of our run, the people who went out in the van were waiting. The van riders got on the sleds and we departed in the van. It took about fifteen minutes to get back to the kennel. While waiting for the rest of the group to return on the sleds, most of us spent time in the yard with the dogs. I have never been an animal person, but I absolutely loved this experience and the dogs. I recommend that every visitor to the Anchorage area visit Vern and his dogs. It is truly a memorable experience. If you don't have a car, you can visit the kennel with Salmon Berry Tours. That is what I did. They provide round-trip transportation from your Anchorage hotel or B&B to the kennel as well as a snack.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear we were in the hands of true professionals. Our mushers, Jaren and Dane, were incredibly experienced, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They didn't just guide us - they educated us, patiently answering every single one of my (many!) questions with enthusiasm and depth. You can tell they truly love sharing this world with others. What stood out just as much as the scenery was the care and devotion shown to the dogs. Every single Alaskan Husky is clearly loved, respected, and exceptionally well cared for. It's obvious the entire team is deeply invested in the health, happiness, and wellbeing of these amazing animals, which made the experience feel even more special and authentic. And then there's the ride itself - absolutely breathtaking. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and the trail felt like something out of a dream. We glided through endless stretches of pristine white snow, surrounded by pines trees, with the crisp Alaskan air filling our lungs. At one point, we were even treated to a clear view of Denali in the distance. This wasn't just a tour, it was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that completely exceeded my expectations. I would recommend Alaskan Husky Adventures to anyone looking for something truly extraordinary.

If you're a solo female traveler, you may want to read this…read more I booked this tour after a warm phone call with Liz and drove over an hour to get there on February 15, 2026. The dogs were great and the trail was scenic, but my interaction with owner Matthew Failor detracted from the experience. At check-in, the waiver asked for my full address. When I hesitated and asked why, his response was essentially that I needed to fill it out or I wouldn't be allowed to go out on the sled. Only afterward did he vaguely mention insurance. Being given that kind of ultimatum in front of other guests felt coercive rather than respectful. After the run, he asked if I had fun and stayed warm. I answered simply and briefly. He then commented that I was "a woman of very few words," which came across as dismissive. He then asked where I live, despite my earlier hesitation about sharing personal information. As a woman traveling alone who had already shown discomfort about privacy, that felt intrusive and tone-deaf. The actual sled run was also noticeably shorter than expected, which made the overall experience feel less worth the cost. Liz later called, listened to my concerns, and processed a refund, which I appreciated. I'm sharing this so other women traveling alone can make an informed decision. While the dogs and trail were enjoyable, my interaction with Matthew made the overall experience uncomfortable and not worth repeating.

Out of a whole week up in Alaska, this was my personal favorite activity we did.

Our excursions were exciting, our accommodations were superb, and, most importantly, our tour guide, Carly, made the entire trip truly unforgettable. There were daily opportunities to tailor the trip to our interests and energy levels. After each excursion, I remember thinking, "It can't get any better than this." And yet, somehow, it did! We went glacier hiking at Matanuska Glacier, landed on a glacier almost at the peak of Denali from Talkeetna, and took a riverboat to the Knik Glacier. We also rode ATVs, hiked in Hatcher Pass and Denali National Park, and took the glass-domed train to Seward and back. Every day brought a new adventure, and each experience was better than the last. Carly, our guide, took a group of thirteen travelers who had never met before and somehow made us feel like family by the end of the trip. Her love for her home state of Alaska, along with her energy, kindness, and thoughtfulness, had a way of making each of us feel special. She personally knew many of our guides for the daily excursions, and even they said she was the best! Carly's knowledge and experience made a huge difference throughout the trip. Her advice about the best times to visit towns, parks, and other popular destinations helped us navigate areas that would otherwise have been heavily congested with tourists. She shared her knowledge of Alaska's mountains, wildlife, and history in the way only a true storyteller can. Her stories brought everything we saw to life and made the experience so much more meaningful. By the end of the trip, our entire group was genuinely sad to say goodbye to Carly. She was so much more than a tour guide--she became an important part of what made this trip so special. We also had lakefront accommodations at two of the hotels where we stayed, which provided a beautiful and relaxing way to end many of our evenings. I highly recommend Alaska Adventure Unlimited and would absolutely book with them again. And if you do book a trip, I hope you are lucky enough to have Carly as your guide. She is truly one of a kind!

He used to teach history and science, and he was a treasure trove of knowledge. We went around all our activities and accommodations in a comfortable executive coach which provided endless drinks and thoughtful touches like snacks, bug spray, hand sanitizer, toilet covers! The hotels were suitable and the B&B near Palmer had the best views - as did the Lakeview Inn. The one thing I would recommend is advising us to eat locally and telling us exactly what time to make dinner reservations in advance (where / what time). It was impossible to get a cab in Seward.... We loved all the activities we picked - ATV, glaciers 4 ways (airplane, hiking on it, boating to it, ocean cruise), cultural tours, kayaking, fishing, gold panning, Denali hiking, train etc - it was endless animal sightings, whale watching and learning galore! I would highly recommend for any curious travelers who don't like just taking pictures of pretty places. We are looking forward to our last day of salmon fishing! Please book with these kind folks.

During our visit to the Talkeetna area there were wildfires burning, we were unable to make it to the meeting area but Fred and his helper Rich came to the hotel and picked us up so we wouldn't miss out on the fun. He first took us to a secluded spot by a river where the salmon were literally swimming between our feet. We could have reached down and scooped them up, but we were there to learn how to fly fish, so learn we did! Fred was extremely patient with me and my husband....and our limited fishing abilities! He came supplied with everything you could need or want during the tour. The waders fit perfectly, and kept us warm in the glacier water. While driving to our second fishing spot he supplied yummy croissant sandwiches to snack on during the ride. The second fishing spot had just as many salmon and we were able to catch quite a few fish. I had a beautiful trout on my line but unfortunately I didn't snag him and he got off the hook. I was bummed, but Fred is so encouraging before I knew it I had a huge salmon on the line and brought it in successfully. While we enjoyed fishing Rich cooked up some salmon by the shore along with vodka tonic and rum and cokes. We took a break to enjoy a perfect meal of deliciously cooked salmon and a nice cocktail. It was seriously a perfect day, despite the wildfires in area. I just hope that Rich and Fred's property were not impacted. If I am ever back in the area, this would be the first tour I book. It was a great experience and a super fun day!! Thank you Fred and Rich for making this the highlight of our trip!
