There is a boat launch for the lake and many sites have landing access for their fishing boats. Two playgrounds for the kids, a clean shower room and laundry. Electricity and water only but a convenient dump in the park. Good internet access. We were here at the end of January when the weather was in the 60's and 70's and mostly sunny. The park is not crowded though busier closer to the weekend. We will be back!

all the usual stuff in a mildly overdone-to-impress-the-tourists sort of way which is exactly the…read morepoint except I don't really have any business in Alabama except the infrequent snack while driving because it occupies a significant chunk of time between my house and my non-Alabamish destination... but I'm kinda digging that the welcome center follows the Sweet Home Alabama motif and looks like a Navin Johnson inspired residence; very housey but built on a grander scale. on the plus side the bottles in the turkey out front have shrunk a bit and no longer occupy the entirety of the faux bird, on the minus side the outgassing and decomposition of plastic bottle plastics is killing us (ironically less quickly and possibly more painfully than consuming the original contents would have)

Until this weekend, I had never been to Demopolis before. I booked a room here on the advise of a…read morecousin who lives in the area. Being a road warrior who spends a lot of time in Marriott, Hilton, and InterContinental properties, I was a little apprehensive about what I might find in a Best Western in a small Alabama town. I had nothing to worry about... this was a great place... on par with some Holiday Inn's and Hampton Inn's I've stayed in. The front desk staff was very friendly and always willing to help (with directions, questions, etc). Every interaction was with a smile on their face. When I checked in, I met Miss Nettie, who also cooks the breakfast. While she was processing my credit card, she told me all about the breakfast, which includes cereal, pancakes, waffles, biscuits, sausage, eggs, muffins, coffee and juice. She also cooks omelets (and she makes your pancakes and waffles to order, the rest of the stuff is laid-out buffet style). During the week, they also advertise "breakfast in bed", where they will bring your choice of two fixed meals (a cold breakfast or a hot breakfast) to your room. Miss Nettie got us checked in to a very nice spacious king suite, complete with a refrigerator and freezer built into a little wet bar area. There was a good sized writing desk that two people could work at and a pull out sofa. The king size bed was comfortable and the bathroom was arranged so that the sink area is separate from the tub/shower and toilet. The room came with a wall-mounted flat panel TV and a "freshly cleaned remote" wrapped in it's own little bag was laid on the bed each day. The room looked and smelled nice and clean. Housekeeping did a great job each day making sure our room looked great and that we had plenty of towels. The property also has a nice pool and two computer "business center" areas. One downstairs in the lobby, and the other is upstairs on the opposite end of the building. While I didn't need to use them (I brought my own laptop and used the free Wifi), it was nice to know that they were available. While I was checking out, Miss Nettie was leaving for the day after cooking the breakfast and she stopped to shake my hand and say good-bye to me and another guest who was also checking out. She wished us safe travels and asked us to come back soon. It's this level of southern hospitality combined with their nicely outfitted, clean rooms that will bring me back the next time I'm in Demopolis... whenever that might be.

I am on the road weekly and have had some less than great experiences in smaller towns. To my surprise this hotel was one of the better ones that have stayed at anywhere across the U.S. The staff was exceptionally friendly, the rooms were spacious and clean, and the breakfast was good. I would completely recommend this hotel.

I'm on my way to Tejas for non-festival of lights activities but right now I'm at the Greene County Rest Area I-20 WB for "reasons" (Alabama State I-59 Rest Area on Google) even in the dark this place is alright. plenty of well lit parking and a security officer present as an active deterrent to potential riff raff; he directed me towards the men's room while I was taking pictures of the interior art work because I apparently look the part of a ruffian so good on them for acting instead of reacting. like most Alabama rest areas this place has a dump station and it's usually operative. otherwise this is just another place on a long list of similar places and unremarkable except for the dude keeping watch... Yea Dude!!
