The place is the cutest little space with old pictures and string lights. The menu is pretty extensive too. I came here for the vegan chef challenge and ordered the Oreo ice cream sandwich (with sprinkles). The lady that took my order was so sweet and we chatted a bit after she asked if I came here specifically for the vegan menu. The ice cream sandwich came out pretty quickly and the portion size was HUGE. I was expecting it to be half the size it was. The sandwich was absolutely delicious & the sprinkles added a bit of texture to the Oreo cookie that was on the softer size and the vanilla ice cream filling. So many people were not aware of this being on the menu this month until they saw my order & wanted to try it for next time. It has taken me a long time to try out this Dreamette location, and that's mainly because there's always a huge line. So this Sunday when I caught them as they were opening, we decided to stop in. The owner waited on us, told us the history of the business and let us try multiple samples. The people that work here are not scooping ice cream or serving soft serve, they are ice cream Mixologists and you'll walk away with one of the best ice cream experience you've ever had. The decor is iconic white and blue and there's plenty of seating on site. All of it is outdoor but it is shaded. After trying some samples, I ordered a soft serve dipped in butterscotch. The owner suggested I add pretzel pieces, which was brilliant. I had to use a cup and spoon to eat it. Every layer of flavor was impeccable. Just a great experience. Don't be swayed by the line. I can't believe we've gone this long without trying Dreamette! We were in the Springfield area for dinner and decided to walk around the neighborhood to admire the beautiful homes. Of course, we had to end the evening with ice cream, so we purposely made our way to Dreamette. The line was long, which is always a good sign, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The menu has so many tempting options that I had a hard time deciding. Thankfully, the wonderful Mari came to the rescue! I asked about their bread puddings, and she recommended the pecan bread pudding, telling me it's made fresh from Biscotti's (if I remember correctly). That was all I needed to hear. Even though I was completely stuffed from dinner, I somehow managed to eat every last bite. It was rich, warm, buttery, and absolutely decadent. My husband took Mari's recommendation and ordered a vanilla mix-in with cookie dough and waffle cone pieces blended throughout instead of just a waffle bowl. He loved it and said the blended waffle cone added the perfect crunch in every bite. Now I'm wondering where the closest Dreamette is to us because this definitely won't be our last visit! As a self-proclaimed ice cream connoisseur and a total sucker for a good soft-serve cone, Dreamette is an easy favorite for me--and the Springfield location definitely holds its own. I've visited several times now, and I'd rank it as my second favorite location, right behind Hendrix Avenue. I've tried the Neapolitan swirl and the chocolate-vanilla swirl, and while the vanilla is really solid, the chocolate doesn't quite do it for me. The strawberry leaned a little artificial in flavor, so not my personal favorite there either. However, my wife absolutely loves their non-dairy Dole Pineapple, so there are definitely wins depending on what you like. Beyond the ice cream itself, I really love the decor and overall vibe of this location. It's bright, fun, welcoming, and has that nostalgic ice cream stand charm. I have been here a few times with family to grab ice cream. I would just double check with them to make sure that they get your order right because there have many answers where they have messed up on my order, but I think that's because they do have a lot of customers. It's hard to explain the joy I received from visiting Dreamette Ice Cream. Yelp should make a special category, a 6th star, for places like this. Firstly, just look at this place! The old fire station transformed into a jewel box of deliciousness and fun. Then the secret ingredient, mentioned by many, how could you overlook it... the owner here, Mari, is a treasure. Not surprising that Mari was a nurse for many years. She cares for her customers in the same way a good nurse would, doing whatever it takes to make sure we're well cared for. When we arrived, she opened the cool little window and knew we hadn't been here before. It's obvious from watching the people coming in that she knows ALL of her customers... even remembering what they order too! She said, "Give me a second, I'm coming around to explain the menu." In a flash, she was out front, explaining the menu, how they created some of the specials, even offering a taste of a few things she said we had to try. What's going on? Is she for real? We had not lived in Jacksonville very long before family visiting from out of town joined us in the quest of finding a dessert spot that has options for one of my kids who needs to stick to a dairy-free diet. Dreamette Springfield came up in our search, and we bravely embarked on our quest to cater to our needs. And what a discovery this place was! I'm a sucker for chocolate dipped ice cream, and it was delicious. If you want a nice chocolate crunch, then make sure you wait a couple minutes for the dipped chocolate to harden! We love their ice cream; I think my wife likes it more than any other, and I might too. This time, she got a medium vanilla waffle cone ($5). They gave it to us in a drip catcher, so it isn't messy. They also asked if we wanted a cup in case it melted; I said yes, and give me a spoon too. It was a big cup. I scooped some ice cream off the cone with the spoon as my wife ate it. There's an unmarked bathroom, and they'll give you the key if you ask. On a sunny summer day, this place seemed even hotter than expected. Maybe it's all the asphalt and concrete in the area. My notes say I enjoyed a root beer float at one of the other locations once, so I should try that again. read more

They sent me an invite to stop in for the grand opening, but I could not make there on Saturday. But, I was able to come by on Sunday afternoon. I was going to order a milkshake, until I saw some delicious looking contraption of a dessert in a man's hands. I asked what did he order. He said, "it's a banana split in a cup". So, that's exactly what I ordered. I should of ordered a kids size. I ordered the medium and man that thing was HUGE! So, I asked for a lid and brought the rest home. I was only able to eat about a 1/4 of it. The Owner(I believe he was the Owner)asked me if I had the Customer Rewards Cards. I told him, "no" & he told me he wanted me to come back soon and punched my card and handed it to me. Wow! I get off work at 3:30pm & I work downtown-so I hope to come after work occasionally. It should not be too busy at that time of day. He did tell me that it is a separate franchise from the others, so the card was only good at the Springfield location. Came here yesterday after lunch next door at Frank Cotten's BBQ. I had been wanting to try Dreamette for awhile since I was told that they had dairy free ice cream. Not only did they have dairy free ice cream, but they had gluten free cones too! No one EVER has GF cones. So thank you for that. I ordered the small dairy free vanilla ice cream. It was huge for being only a small! I was so happy. You can barely notice a difference in taste between the real thing and non dairy. The owner was really nice too. I usually don't like orange dreamsicle, but when he had me try, it didn't taste like fake orange. It tasted like actual citric orange. I was surprised. My friend ordered their Oreo shake. They have seating outside only. In the front, then there's like a drive through area for whatever the building used to be. There's also seating in the back and a little stand to take pictures with ice cream cones on it. They offer a variety of ice cream types. I can't wait to go back and try more. This place definitely amazed me and I'm ready to go back here and try out their other locations when the mood strikes. This place is amazing! The owner was so super sweet, I'm a local and my partner was from out of town but it was my first time here and she came out to explain the whole menu to us! I tasted a sample of all 3 non-dairy options. The vanilla taste like regular vanilla ice cream. I went with a banana split in a cup made with dole whip. It hit the spot! Next time, I will get it with the vanilla ice cream instead though. I think it must have been one of the owners who brought out my order personally. She explained that their are MANY non-dairy options available. All of the vegan options have a "V" next to them on the menu. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this notation and the consideration to accommodate people who do not or cannot eat dairy. They have a whole host of options available. This is a place where you can meet with your friends or take a date, and not stick out or feel under a spotlight cause your eating choices.
