While staying at a nearby hotel we got a hankering for some ice cream and found this place on Yelp. The parking lot was pretty filled, mostly by adjacent restaurants that share the lot, but we found a stall in the back 40. The two employees working inside were quite friendly and offered us taste tests of the assortment of ice creams they had displayed. The interior was clean and organized. We both elected to try the 6-pack, smaller scoops on a tray. Some we tried were fantastic and others were just so-so. We were provided a frequent customer card, which they stamped, and informed that there were Mayday Ice Cream franchises across Central Florida. We may use the card down the road, but I can't see us filling it up anytime soon to get that free one in the end. We'll see. Overall the ice cream was good, but not necessarily great. read more

A creative, cutesy little ice cream shop in San Marco? Yes, please! Stopped in on a Thursday night and saw lots of people enjoying Mayday both inside and outside. Shoutout to the one girl working, she managed to not rush anyone and always served up a smile. I felt very welcomed and didn't mind the 10 minute wait to order at all for this reason. I tried the Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie ($5.75 for a scoop) and oh was it good. It managed to strike the perfect chord between sweet and warm, and I was very happy with my choice. They also let you try samples too if you're stuck between a few flavors! Also, the sprinkles and galettes (like a waffle cone cookie almost) are free!!! My only recommendation is that there be a flavor card for each kind of ice cream, because there were plenty with no name and I wasn't sure what they even were. The sweet employee asked if we had been before and gave us a punch card when we said we had not. This a wonderful little neighborhood shop. The perfect place to stop with the kids for an after school treat. The employees are always pleasant and you are able to sample as many flavors as you'd like. This is a nice spot, but the shopping center it's in is a little weird in terms of parking, with a lot of very aggressive signage all around telling you what not to do. It is an open, glassy shop next to some railroad tracks. They have an impressive flavor selection. I went with their version of mint chip, called mint madness, as well as a vegan chocolate almond milk flavor. The mint flavor had all sorts of mint leaves and cookies thrown in there, but my feeling was that more is not better and I would have preferred to have a less complicated flavor. The almond milk one was the slightest bit grainy in texture, but robust in flavor. Both were good, many others would also have been good. My favorite place for ice cream! We always take our out of town friends to here when they come visit! We've been going since 2018 since we moved here and they all collectively agree that it's one of the best ice cream places! The shop is always so clean, bright, cute, and I love the ice cream shop like aesthetics on the walls. The customer service has always been hit or miss. Sometimes they're really great or other times, they're really average or meh. But none of the time, I've gotten really rude service. What I love about this ice cream shop is that they don't have the usual, traditional flavors like chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc. They elevate their flavors and make them all in house. They have flavors such as the raja honey (honey with jasmine tea), parent trap (oreos and peanut butter, an ode to the Parent Trap movie), banana pudding (made with actual real bananas and not the artificial flavoring and nilla wafers), coffee and donuts (coffee ice cream with bits of glazed donuts), blueberry toast crunch (blueberry flavored ice cream with cinnamon crunch cereal bits and swirls of the blueberry jam?), key lime pie (with pie crust in it too), cookies and creme overload (cookies and creme but made with a load of oreos), and also alcohol flavored ice cream like bourbon pecan (made with buffalo trace liquor) and watermelon melon sorbet (made with vodka). They have a wide variety of flavors that will satisfy anyone! Their flavors change often so make sure you check out the menu on their Instagram page or their website. They offer sprinkles and a homemade waffle cookie with your ice cream. You can get one scoop, two scoops, or a flight of mini scoops. GET THE SPRINKLES!!!! They make it in house and it's not your traditional sprinkles that are overly sweet and hard and crunchy. Their sprinkles are not too sweet, a nice consistency and texture and very pretty!!! They add a great crunch with your ice cream. The waffle cookie is delicious too and it reminds me of the stoop waffles but not filled. My go to is always a scoop of their ice cream with a waffle cone. They make their cones in house too! I tried the pretzel cone but wasn't a fan as it was salty and too hard for me. I got the banana pudding with a waffle cone last night and it hit the stop! You can taste the chunks of banana and the distinct taste of a traditional banana pudding. The nilla crackers weren't soggy at all and still maintained it's crunchy texture. I was literally eating banana pudding in ice cream form and it made me so happy! I recently moved to Jacksonville with my wife, and I am quite happy that Mayday Ice Cream is just a short drive away. It's the best ice cream shop I've been to in Jacksonville so far. Great ice cream, immaculately clean shop, and an always friendly and helpful staff. On my most recent visit, my wife and I took my mother who was visiting us from out of town. We stopped in on a Friday night in a brief moment when no one else was in the shop and had the full attention of the staff. My mom ordered a single scoop waffle cone (which is really at least two huge scoops) and had two flavors that she loved (bourbon pecan and caramel apple pie) while my wife and I went for the six flavor ice cream flight comprised of six mini scoops. If you're into variety, the ice cream flight is the way to go (it's about $9, but totally worth it when you're splitting it). The caramel apple pie, cookie crush, and straight strawberry were standouts for me, while my wife was all about Session Chocolate, which is a wonderfully rich ice cream that punches you in the face with chocolateness. Mayday Ice Cream's prices are on the higher end ($5 for a single scoop cone, $9 for the ice cream flight) but the value is totally there. Serving sizes are large, the quality of the ice cream is high, and the shop is amazingly maintained in a nice area of town. If it's a pleasant night, there's a nice courtyard to hang out in, too. Is there cheaper ice cream out there that's also good? Sure. But I've been to my share of hipster ice cream shops that charge the same or more and are nowhere near the experience of Mayday.
