This is a good read for anyone considering a guided fishing trip with Dream on the Fly. So, yes, no experience. I felt like the Karate Kid with his teaching technique. Presentation, mending, drifting, pointing the rod tip at the indicator, watching the indicator, casting and feeling the weight for whipping. It is pretty complicated, but his technique really helped me grasp the process and I felt pretty confident after an hour or so. I learned the hard way once or twice about respecting the power of these river trout. They are good sized and put up enough fight to break a line pretty easily. LET THEM RUN WHEN THEY FIGHT! Don't force them in too fast. Take your time, but keep your rod up and line tension tight. The scenery at The Owyhee River is gorgeous. In all, you will learn a lot with them about the river, fly fishing, and Idaho if you are a traveler. Great experience. We had some great catches and I learned so much. I would recommend this trip to anyone looking for a great fishing trip! read more

Wow. Just got back from a day on the Owyhee River with Andrew. It was an amazing day. Rainbows and Browns, each bigger than the last, and many were Personal Bests! We were getting hit with hoppers, dries and nymphs. An absolute blast. Towards the end of the day, Andrew spotted a monster brown in a hole. We tried multiple rigs and flies, but no luck. Andrew was not discouraged looking for that fly formula, constantly changing the flies. I tossed one more time, and BOOM on the hopper. My biggest fish ever. At least a 20"+ Brown. Dear Andrew, Me and my son wanted to thank you for another amazing day of fishing on the Owyhee river! This was the 4th trip for myself with Andrew and the 3rd for my son. I had a general knowledge of fly fishing from a school, but not a lot of practical experience. My son had never been fly fishing before. I am probably understating this when I say it - YOU ARE A GREAT GUIDE!!!! You worked so hard to put us onto the fish. Because of your efforts, we fished and ended up with wonderful results. I still cannot believe all the fish we caught. You handled all of the other details so we could fish and especially catch - WOW!!! Andrew has the patience and communication skills, along with passion for sharing his skills to help build others up. Andrew knows the rivers, hatch patterns, fly selection and where fish like to feed. We both now have what it takes to read the river and anticipate where trout are feeding. Used Dreams on the Fly for a full day outing yesterday and had an awesome experience fishing the Owyhee system in Oregon. I've been fly fishing perhaps four or five times, all with guides. Without fail all of my fly fishing outings have been great fun and experience. So, I pretty much knew what to expect from a guide session. Dreams on the Fly did not disappoint. I'm in Idaho for the first time in my life, and on my list of things to do was to do some fly fishing. So I give Dreams a call a few days before flying into Boise. Dreams indicated that the best fishing at the time would be on the Owyhee system about 50 miles west of Boise, and that they could accommodate us. So I made the reservation. Before I reached Boise, we got a couple more calls from the guide asking for things like accommodations required, meal preferences, etc. I appreciated their anticipation for our arrival, and attention to details. Dave, the guide, picked my wife and I up at the hotel the day prior to the outing to take us to get fitted for waders and boots, and to pick up the essential equipment. We had a wonderful chat with the shop owner, and were fitted. Dave collected all the gear and delivered us back to our hotel. Dave then picked us up at 10am to take us out to the Owyhee. The drive took us about an hour and half, and we had a nice chat getting to know each other, and talking about Boise and the surrounding areas. We fished a total of three spots throughout the day, landing perhaps seven or eight nice sized brown trout. I think one of these was perhaps a foot long, but all of the others were more like 20 inches or better. So, it was a great day. We fished our fishing at about 9PM. The guide was always professional, knowledeable, patient, very courteous, and flexible. Couldn't have asked for more. read more

My son and I did a 1 day trip led by Derek. In a word, the trip was fabulous. Derek was extremely knowledgeable about the Owyhee River, where to fish, what flies to use, where precisely to place the cast, how far downriver to let it drift and how to best land the trout once they were caught. With his guidance we landed some very large brown and rainbow trout along with some medium and smaller sized ones. Derek also packed a terrific lunch and, to top it off, he is a genuinely nice guy. I'm new to Flyfishing so I decided with a friend to use Dreams on the fly for guide service. Best decision I have made. Andrew was our guide, he was absolutely great.This trip was my first to the Owyhee River and we caught lots of fish. I Caught about a 22" Brown, and the rest were 18 to 20". Andrew took us to a specific hole were you can see the fish in the water. Me and my friend took turns fishing it, ever 15 minutes or so we would catch a fish then we would switch, anther 10 minutes or catch another one one and so. It was my best fishing day so far and it was a blast. Andrew takes care of everything so all you have to focus on is fishing and he makes lunch. I highly recommend using Dreams on the fly for guide service especially going out to the Owyhee River with Andrew, I will definitely be using them again in the near future. read more

A couple of years ago I won a draw prize of a day on the Grand Ronde with Dave. Circumstances would not allow me to take the trip that year, and sickness in the family took priority. Dave was the consummate host, he allowed me to take it when I was able to. I decided that I needed to have a couple of good friends on my trip to enjoy it too. The more the merrier Dave said...bring em along. I have been an avid fly fisherman/ fly tier and steelheader for as long as I can remember and had never been on a guided trip, so I was really looking forward to it. We fished in late October. Rafting down the Ronde and fly fishing with Dave was everything I had ever thought a guide should be. He is the epitome of what every guide should strive to be. Helpful, but not in your face, eager to please and worked like a dog the entire trip. His easy going nature makes for a very relaxed trip. He is an incredible cook and we had some of the best camp meals I have ever enjoyed. Spent the night sleeping under the desert stars and the sounds of the river rushing by is a sure fire way to the best nights sleep you have had in a long time. The exhilaration of running the narrows made me feel alive with excitement. Dave and Rhonda are quite simply some of the nicest people I have ever met, and they will continue to be good friends of mine for many years to come. You would be hard pressed to beat this team. Be it sitting watching Dave tie his awesome flies, or just sitting and enjoying each others company with good talk, you will have a great trip; to be fondly remembered for ever.
