After doing extensive research into the best dive shop on Cozumel, my husband and I chose Dressel Diving. We stayed at the Iberostar, which is not a dive resort, rather it is a resort which offers diving (what I mean by that is that the resort is not geared towards divers, there are no hooks or hangers to dry gear on your balcony, the restaurants allow people in bathing suits but not folded down wetsuits, there is no individual gear storage other than a small cubby and no provided locks). Anyway, on to the diving. Booking was very easy, I worked with a gal (who happened to be stationed in Spain) who helped me set up a package of dives, cenote excursions, and night dives. So everything was paid for when we arrived. Pros: - Almost all of the dive masters were awesome. Ricky was fantastic and so was Tania. We were always happy when we saw Ricky was our DM. He was the right amount of chill, knowledge, safety, and fun. -The dives were really fantastic. We only repeated one dive in 6 days of diving. - Water and fruit were available on the boat. -My husbands inflator hose malfunctioned and a guy in the dive shop fixed it for him with a spare part he had so my husband could use his equipment until we got home and get it serviced. -The boat staff were all very competent and helpful. -Free nitrox with your package. -Plentiful defogger on board -Short boat rides to amazing dive sites. Cons: - Before booking I asked if they had gear lockers. I hate toting all of our gear back and forth to a hotel room. I was told yes. When we arrived, we saw that there were not individual gear lockers, rather, small individual cubbies that would fit a few things but there were no locks. In additional, several of the cubbies didn't have chains on them to hold them secure even if you did have a lock. I asked if they had locks and they said they didn't. This meant we had to lug our gear back and forth to our hotel room and the dock, which sucked as the resort is expansive. I noticed not many people left there gear there. A few people hung up older wetsuits but I didnt see many BCDS in the room. - The gal checking us in was very aloof and not real friendly. I don't need butt kissing but she acted put out to be helping us and answering questions. - We didn't know where we were diving until we left on the boat. Even though they have a calendar of dives, they did not follow it (which I do understand if there are current or changing conditions, but everything seemed chill and there were no weather related issues). We were fine with the dives but if someone wanted to do a particular dive they might be disappointed with the scheduling. - The boats get crowded and more than once our tanks were not full and we had to swap them out for full tanks. One time it was 7 divers who were short on air in their tanks and several of us had to swap tanks 2-3 times. - They only book 2 tank dive packages so if you want to to break up your day of diving and don't want to do back to back dives, they charge you 10.00 per tank to break it up. We came to dive and dive we did, but if you are a diver who just likes one or two and have a big surface interval this system may not be the best for you. - On our last two dives we were placed in a group of brand new open water divers. I get it, we have all been there, but our dives were cut very short because of it (one dive ended at 39 minutes) which really sucked. The dm apologized to us privately but we weren't offered any discount or another dive to make up for it. -There is no retail dive shop to speak of, as far as gear to buy or incidentals you may need. No tshirts or any of the usual dive gear stuff us divers love to buy. read more

This is our first experience with Dressel Divers. We wanted to utilize their services as we were staying at the Iberostar in Cozumel and the dive shop is right on site which is a big plus. Note that there is no shore diving at the Iberostar due to the proximity to the aquatic park; snorkeling is permitted and equipment can be rented from the Dressel diver shop. Free pool check out of scuba equipment is provided by professionals for anyone expressing an interest in the sport. The dive shop is next to some of the best reefs in Cozumel/the world. The boats are well-maintained and well handled. The captains and crew are outstanding. This is a larger location for diving due to proximity to the reef so we were rotated through a variety of dive masters, all of whom we found to be professional and good at working with some of the newer divers in the water. Unlike some higher end locations, this is a very much haul your own equipment on and off the boat. If you ask for assistance and let them know that you might need some help they're willing to accommodate. There is tank filling on site and we had absolutely no exceptions with tank volumes. Boats tend to be larger and can be quite full depending on bookings; groups tend to be a mix of beginner and advanced, which can make dives uneven for all. Operation would benefit from sorting groups. We were able to successfully obtain our nitrox certification on site which was a game changer for a diving. Note that Nitrox surface intervals are minimally 30 minutes and prior to us completing our new certification we felt that the dive team might be pushing surface intervals too short for nitrox and non-nitrox alike in some instances due to late departure off the dock which we mentioned and the dive team adjusted times. There are wash tanks and storage rooms that are secured at night and rentals available on site. There's a small shop with some T-shirts, etc. but not much of a variety. Communications with this company is a big challenge and one of several reasons, along with surface interval protocol, why they're not getting five stars. Dressel Divers main office is in Spain and getting answers to simple questions about local issues were the a bit problematic. Neither of the phone numbers provided for the local shop or the extension for the shop at the hotel is attended. Boat postings and departure times are put on a whiteboard that is manually updated rather than a centralized communication system (Facebook?!) that would allow Divers to get regular updates on issues that would impact operations. Boat departures are listed anywhere from 8 AM onward and shop and storage rooms opening times can vary significantly due to the relaxed nature of the island. The dive sites are well planned, equipment in good shape, and overall a good value. Note that packages can be purchased in advance or at discounted rates for multiple dives. Dressel offers a very flexible refund policy and should be considered before purchasing larger amounts of dives in advance. It's not very clear who is in charge at this location and there are some problems with centralized communications and standard protocols at this shop but the diving is pretty solid. read more

Me and my sister went scuba diving with Dressel Divers two days ago. We decided to go on their full day excursion to Cozumel Island which included 2 dives. The day before the excursion, my sister (who is not a certified diver and has never been before) did a few hour long class that taught her the basics of scuba diving so she would feel comfortable on the trip. We left from Barcelo Maya resort early in the morning and were directed through the transport by our fantastic guide Nunu. For the dives, we were take out by boat from Cozumel, assigned a Dive Master named Juan, and dropped off far into the Caribbean Sea. Juan was an amazing instructor and made me (a certified diver) and my sister (a newbie) feel totally comfortable and safe throughout the whole process. We did two dives lasting about 45 minutes each, and went a bit deeper on the second dive than the first. There was a lot of activity by the coral reef and Juan was always pointing out the different kinds of sea animals! He would also check in with us often to make sure we were doing well and enjoying ourselves. We saw many different fish; puffer fish, rainbow fish, etc. as well as a small shark and even a sea turtle. Overall we had an amazing experience and would definitely recommend this trip for anyone interested regardless of how new or experienced you are. Thank you guys so much! read more

Cannot say enough good things about Dressel! I was the only one in my initial dive class so I got wonderful one on one attention for the classroom and pool dive from Eliana. She was an excellent instructor. I did the morning and afternoon dive and she was great at calming my nerves at that point of first sinking below the surface of the water (one half of the brain says you can't breathe under water, other half of the brain says 'yo dummy, you've got SCUBA on') I definitely enjoyed the second dive even more than the first! I didn't want to take my wetsuit off! I will absolutely be looking for Dressel anytime I'm back in the Caribbean, wish they had MORE locations! Thank you Dressel! Dressel Divers in the Barcelo Maya in the Mexican Riveria are fantastic. Dressel has dive shops located in many different hotels including the Barcelo Maya near Puerto Aventuras where I was staying. It was very easy to arrange pickup at my condo. Even though I sent the incorrect condo development name, Sergio was very responsive and managed to still find me to go diving. The dive guides were top notch, with small groups on the boat. All were very attentive to their divers and made sure that everyone had a great dive. After I was taken back to my condo, I realized I left my suit in the changing room. Sergio was once again the master of customer service and made sure I got it back that afternoon. Hats off to the very friendly staff at the dive center, exceptional dive masters and Sergio for making sure it was a great day on the reef. read more

Dressel Divers is a top-notch operation that is conveniently located on the Iberostar Cozumel resort. The size of the operation is impressive with 4 boats leaving at a time. The staff are super friendly, professional, and accommodating. We had a wedding party at the resort, and half of our guests were divers of various skill levels. We were lucky enough to have a private boat on two of our dives. A bunch of us got additional dive certs during our stay. Can't say enough good things about the staff. Anna and Lucas were my dive masters on all of my dives, and they made sure everyone had an awesome time. The employees at the dive center did a great job of keeping order to the daily chaos. Iberestore was excellent but the Dressel Dive Shop was not. I presented my medical note and the rude person said I needed another note. She could have simply called my medical team, but instead left it to me to meet her liability standards. Despite HIPPA and not having phone service, I got my doctor's approval that a diabetic was fit to dive. We chose a different dive shop because of one snotty person. The Americans with Disabilities Act was violated and I personally felt insulted in a cruel manner. I moved forward and had four excellent dives with a kind professional. I was looking for a dive company to dive with while I was on vacation in Mexico. Dressel Divers came up so I booked 5 days of dives with them. I was staying in Cancun and Dressel Divers picked me up every day. They were very thorough and professional with every step. I am a SCUBA instructor but it has been a couple of years since I've been on a dive. We started with a pool session to get me refreshed with my equipment. I did two dives with them that same day. I dove with them every single day but gave myself 48 hours of non diving before my flight. If you are ever in this area, I recommend the Cenote excursion and I recommend going with Dressel Divers. My guide was Georgia and she did an outstanding job on the trip. She gave us so much information about the Cenotes and even about the Mayans. Georgia was very funny and made the trip fun. Georgia is a great tour guide and makes sure to take care of your needs and addresses problems before they occur. Another great trip is going to Cozumel. Dressel Divers will take care of this as well. It was a long day but very worth the time. Marcelo was our guide and handled the very large group like a pro. From the ferry to the island and back to the many taxies it took to get us to and from the resort. Marcelo also lead our dive group and did a great job managing the dive. The local dives are plentiful with a lot to see. The boat ride is quick so if you get sea sick, don't worry. The trips are quick enough that you won't have time to get sick. I had several great dive guides like: Imma, Rob, Juan, Nikos, and Marius. I'm sure I have misspelled some of the names (sorry). They do deep dives but you must request them. I did not have a chance to do a night dive but all the dives were good. Dressel Divers has locations with a lot of the Iberostar Resorts (I didn't know this when I did my booking). So if you want a good place to stay with a great dive company on a site, Iberostar is where to start your search. Iberostar will be my first choice from here on out thanks to Dressel Divers. I didn't list the many fish I saw on the dive trips but I can tell you there were a lot. I have been a dive instructor for several companies and I can tell you, Dressel Divers is a top notch company. What can I say about the fabulous Dressel Divers? All good things! Maddie, Millie, Monique, Eva, Omar, Fabian, Julia all made our journey to get certified seamless and most of all, FUN! They're enthusiasm is genuine and refreshing. They have the patience that more than matches that of your favorite school teacher's. It starts from the top and head honcho Maddie leads the crew with grace and professionalism. Monique booked everything at the shop and when our plans changed from just doing the resort course to taking the certification class, she answered our many questions with once again, patience and a smile. Our cabin was next door to the dive shop so we felt like the shop was an extension to our room. The shop was truly a home for us. The divers who came from all over the world were also very happy and said they keep returning. That says something. When the boats arrived to take us on the short 20 min jaunt to the reefs which are still very colorful and vibrant and AWESOME, there was organization that kept all our enthusiasm at bay while we hung at the shop for a few minutes else-wise we we would have eagerly swarmed the docks and ran onto the boats. It's those little almost unnoticed things that also make the shop, the dive instructors and the folks that run the shop such a success. Also want to give a shout out to dear Nathalie who resides in Spain where the company is based. Cuz the prices aren't listed online, you request the cost once you email Dressel Divers in Spain your trip details by filling out the site's form. As you see on their site, a 20% discount is given on the scuba. Trouble is that you have no idea what the original price is. On the flip side, Dressel/Nathalie offers a package scuba-and-stay deal with the Iberostar resort which is less expensive than booking both separately. Use your miles and be happy. Speaking of happy, my 12yr old son who took the certification with me, is giving me the video of one of our dives for Mother's Day! There is a great videographer that comes on most of your dives. I apologize for not remembering her name. Besides taking very cool pics, and I'm a pro photographer and am wowed by her work, she'll let you know when she's videoing you so you can ham it up. Millie, one of our fabulous dive instructors, wins 1st prize in the hamming it up. I was a close 2nd and am excited to see the vid! Dressel divers at the Iberostar is great. My whole family took a snorkel trip which was beautiful. All the staff was upbeat and fun to be around. Luki told us about a free 10 minute scuba lesson at the pool. So, of course, my son and I had to try it out. And we were hooked, made reservations, and took our very first scuba dive ever with Juli. She was extremely kind, patient, and helpful. We got fortunate enough to even see dolphins on our way to the dive site. Under water we saw more ocean life than I could even take in. Once the dive was over my son begged to go again. So we scheduled another dive. He even asked specifically for the same instructor, Juli.
