We spent a week in Playa Del Carmen during Spring Break 2021, and I wanted to get my Advanced Open Water SCUBA Certification. Dune Mexico Blue Dream was the perfect shop for me. Overall (TLDR): Small Scuba shop in Playa with some very nice staff and instructors who worked around my vacation schedule to accommodate me getting my AOW while still finding interesting enough dives that my fiance (who already has her AOW) could dive with us and not be bored. They took us on short notice and dealt seamlessly with Cozumel closing unexpectedly when we were supposed to dive there. Overall great service and learning for me at a reasonable price. They are my go to dive shop in Playa. The Story: I booked a week at an all inclusive resort in Maroma for the week of spring break and was playing with the idea of finally getting my AOW certification so that I could do some of the more challenging dives I hadn't had access to with just an Open Water certificate. I did a little research and most of the shops down there had few reviews and not a lot of information available. I ran across Mexico Blue Dream, and their website was helpful and gave me hope. I emailed a month before the trip and they responded quickly. Up until the time when we were about to leave, I was still debating taking time away from an all inclusive resort to get the Advanced cert. I called them the day before we were supposed to arrive, after about two weeks of hemming and hawing, and they fit us in. They arranged a two day dive schedule with 4 dives in Playa and then 3 dives in Cozumel. When we arrived at our hotel, we had trouble contacting the dive shop because evidently the phones around the shop went completely out, but luckily Camille emailed me with his personal cell number and everything worked out just fine. The shop itself isn't the easiest place to find as the address helps you find the block, but the address itself is not well marked on any of the buildings in the area. Best advice I can give you is to look for the big yellow door! We met Damien, our instructor/dive master who has to be one of the most kind and even keeled people around. He was patient in explaining what we were going to do and what we needed to achieve for the certification process. Our first dive was a wreck dive with tight quarters and some decent marine life to watch. I always felt at ease with Damien as he was attentive, without being overbearing, and adaptive to our skill levels throughout our dives. Our second dive was a drift dive and the third was about navigation and maneuvering underwater. I always felt comfortable and secure with Damien. Such a great instructor and person overall. The second day we were supposed to go to Cozumel, but when returned from our first day, we found out they closed docks due to high seas. We transitioned to diving some Cenotes instead for our second day, and those went off without a hitch just like the previous day. The view from the Cenote called "the Pit" was one of the more remarkable geologic formations I have experienced. The Good: Good prices. Great staff who was thorough and responsive. Cute little facility with everything we needed despite not being a large storefront/retail location. They knew their stuff and made me feel comfortable the whole time. Camille was helpful in the office making all the arrangements, and I couldn't have asked for a more zen and knowledgeable instructor than Damien. The Bad: Nothing. The Mediocre: finding the place the first time was a little nerve-wracking because I'm very type A when it comes to being on time, but it worked out just fine. read more

One of the larger and more established Scuba shops around. It seems to be independent but you can get all sort of certifications through them. They have instructors all sorts of gear so you can get any certification you desire up to PADI instructor as one of the people on the boat had been trying to get. I think you should give this one a try when you're in Playa Del Carmen. read more

This a great, friendly and laid back group of dive masters. The are very knowledgeable about the area, dive sites and sea life. I can't recall ever seeing my SCUBA guides worry so much about the safety of the group. The dives were well run. We saw a lot of sea life. I highly recommend them and I hope I get back to use them again. read more

LOOK NO FURTHER! If you're a tourist in Mexico and overwhelmed by the panhandlers as you walk down the street and completely lost about who to talk to regarding tours without fear of being ripped off, then I suggest Mexico Blue Dream. It solved all those worries for us. This small shop is located right on Calle N 28 one block from the beach. Situated in what looks like a shopping mall. I was eager to visit a few cenotes on the last day of my trip. Unfortunately I missed the 8am call time therefore did snorkeling instead at 2pm. It cost us $39 (USD) per person which I thought was reasonable. The cenotes trip will run around $75 from what I hear, which is cheaper than most street vendors. This shop is perfect because they have lockers, hot showers and provide you with water and wet suits. The instructor AL is American and thoroughly explained everything we were going to do during our adventure. We were a group of 8. He made sure we were safe. At first I had a hard time with the breathing but he guided me through it and was there to help. Great company for tours. The snorkeling itself was just ok. Not too much to see. I wish I could've gone to the cenotes, but next time I will def be using this company again. read more

Today, my wife and I tested out our newly minted padi certifications and were so glad we did it with Mexico Blue Dream. Actually, the name has changed to Dune Mexico Blue Dream, but whatever name you call it, just go to this place for scuba anywhere in Playa. Our dive master, AL, made us feel like we were the only ones in the water and took care of us on the boat ride to Cozumel. He is a former US Marine and his professionalism, attention to detail in preparation was way above and beyond what other dive masters on the boat were doing. Our first dive in the open water and we saw Barracudas, Pilot Fish, Angel Fish, Sting Rays and a Nurse Shark. Plus, we stayed at Aldea Thai Resort and walked 50-60 feet to the dive shop! If you are going to dive anywhere in Playa Del Carmen, this has to be your only stop! read more

Mexico Blue Dream is a great operation. When we were planning our trip they were very prompt in getting back with us (can't say the same for other shops). Their staff was very friendly and you felt right st home. That is the one thing with dive shops, you know right away. We dove with them two days in a row. All of their rental equipment seemed good. Can't really comment as we had our own. The tanks were in good condition and had no issues. The boats were good. The only criticism that I had was getting on and off the boat on shore. I wish that the process would be a little easier. Otherwise it was a great experience. I would dive again with them the next time I am in Playa. read more

Amazing People Make an Incredible Dive Shop! I had the opportunity to dive for two months straight with this shop in Dec/Jan of 2014/15. The couple that runs the shop does so with safety and courtesy in mind. Their staff are all excellent instructors and guides. I even decided to complete my Advanced Open Water certification while there so I could learn from these instructors! They replace their equipment yearly in November. One of the few dive shops I have seen that use Scubapro regulators (first and second stage) on their rental gear! I performed over 21 dives while there; wreck; reef; drift; bull shark; and the even arranged a trip to Cozumel with one of their guides so I could do a wall and reef dive there before I left. I have always wanted to learn to dive and Mexico Blue Dream was recommended by my boss, although I was shopping for dive shops around the world. From my first interaction with them over email, I knew this was the place I wanted to spend my 3 week vacation. 11 emails later with tons of questions, I finally arrived where they exceed my high expectations of them. I have a new family and am truly grateful to every one of them for making me feel that way. Ohh the Cozumel reef is amazing, I love the cavern and wreck diving, this area truly has it all. We booked a Discover Scuba excursion with Mexico Blue Dream during our Spring Break trip at a resort in Riviera Maya. They were very helpful in providing information prior to our trip, and we even arranged transportation to and from our hotel through the dive shop. The training portion was a breeze and the staff was personable and helpful. Unfortunately we arrived in Mexico shortly after a bout of unusually inclement weather with heavy rains, and the harbor was closed for all three days that we attempted to scheduled dives do to choppy water, meaning that we were unable to do our open water dive in the ocean. Mexico Blue Dream was more than accommodating with this situation outside their control, allowing us to keep a flexible date and await the possible opening of the harbor. We were able to finally do our dive in an open water cenote, which was a wonderful experience. If you are dead set on doing an ocean dive this excursion may not be for you, due entirely to external factors, but this dive shop did everything in their power to make this one of the best parts of our trip. read more

My husband and I did our Open Water Referral dives with Matias Smirnoff at Mexico Blue Dream, and my dad took a Scuba refresher course and accompanied us on our second two dives. The water was choppy and visibility wasn't great, but we all had a fantastic time! Everyone working at the dive shop was very nice and helpful from the get-go. They answered my (many!) questions over email in a prompt manner, and were great to deal with in person as well. Their equipment was also in good shape -- either new or well cared for. The boats are small-ish, but they didn't over-fill them with people, and the captain and boat staff were friendly and took good care of all of us. But because this was a certification dive trip, the most important thing for us was having an excellent instructor on board -- and Matias was wonderful. Our group was comprised of three students (my husband and I, plus one other gentleman), and each of us had our own special problems and concerns. My husband was quite nervous about diving in general (and the low visibility exacerbated this tremendously on day 1). Matias helped him to overcome his fears and improve his confidence tremendously. Our fellow referral diver was experiencing some seasickness on the first diving day from the choppy seas, and Matias was very caring and helpful to him the entire time. For my part, I have a bizarre fear of vomit, which made us a pretty odd group -- but Matias did a good job of distracting me and making me feel better as well. I also had an issue when I was being tested on removing my mask. I got water in my eyes and kind-of got anxious and began breathing heavily. Once I had the mask back on, Matias helped me to calm down very quickly. It wasn't really a big deal, but it was comforting to know that regardless of what happened down there, we were with a very experienced guide that was well-attuned to each of our needs. Thanks so much Matias!!! :) On day two, my dad joined us, and the five of us were able to explore some beautiful reefs. Visibility was a bit better, and we saw some gorgeous fish, eels, rays, and other marine life. It was fun diving with my dad, and both my husband and I feel much more comfortable underwater, and ready to do more diving in the future. I would have loved to go back to MBD for more diving, but our vacation was jam packed with family events. If I return to Playa del Carmen, I will certainly dive with them again. read more

We booked a tour with Mexico Blue Dream to snorkel with turtles at Akumal Bay. It was very enjoyable. Our daughter is 6 and had never snorkeled before. Our guide, Luis, made her feel very comfortable. He moved at a good pace and was very respectful of the turtles. He also showed us some other places to try out in Playa while we were driving home. Luis gets 5 s The snorkeling gear was not awesome. It leaked and was a little difficult. I would suggest bringing your own snorkeling gear read more

These guys go above and beyond!! I needed help with verification of a purchase I made with them a few years ago and they were extremely prompt in responding to every email I sent and also went back to their archives to help me find the receipt. They were also extremely friendly!! Considering I was a customer from the past, most companies wouldn't have helped me in the present. I would absolutely suggest this company to any of my friends and will definitely go back to them when I'm back in Playa with the confirmed knowledge that they are fast, very friendly, and very organized!! Don't use this dive shop! All they care about is taking your money, and don't seem to care at all about ensuring their customers are happy. There are many other better shops in town with better prices, and more importantly, much better service. The two ladies that worked at the front desk were rude and generally unhelpful. They don't understand customer service at all, and would rather lose a customer than go out of their way to ensure their customers are happy. When I told my poor experience to another dive shop in town, they knew exactly what dive shop I was talking about, and said they hear similar complaints from other (former) customers of Mexico Blue Dream all the time. read more

An amazing experience. Definitely 5-star. I had been very nervous about scuba diving because of the fear of something going wrong and having no air. I decided to try it out anyway because I've read such great things about the scuba diving in Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. Steve ("scuba Steve") was my intro to scuba classes instructor and he was INCREDIBLE. There were 4 our in a group. He walked us through everything we did step-by-step. He make sure we were all comfortable. He took meticulous care of our gear and getting everything set up which definitely put my mind at ease (safety was #1 priority). The pool exercises went very smoothly and the dives were amazing. I saw at least 30 different kinds of fish, large schools of fish, beautifully colored reef, etc. It was breathtaking. I'm so glad I gave it a try and I'm SO GLAD I did it with Mexican Blue Dream and that Steve was my instructor. Can't wait to go diving again! read more
