Ever since my house burned down recently, shopping has been a strange and frustrating chore. It's an odd feeling to step into a store, look around, and realize you need absolutely everything in it. In the first store I went to after the fire, Macy's, a sales clerk asked me, "What do you need?" and I responded, "What do you have? I need all of it." I left with socks, underwear and a couple of shirts. I've tried going to Nordstrom's, and several other large stores, where I wandered aimlessly before picking out a few things I'm not crazy about, or leaving empty-handed. I should have started with Dressers, where I went yesterday. The owner Tessa, and her thoughtful and warm sales associates, brought item after item to the dressing room, after learning my sizes, favorite colors and preferred styles. I left with shirts, pants, jackets, and a purse, all high quality, beautiful, and not crazy expensive - especially considering the extremely personalized and thoughtful service. What you'll get at Dressers is very different than what's available at big box stores: Old-fashioned and personal service, decent prices and high quality, fashionable styles... they have it all. read more

I found one way to make clothing shopping less fun : "Ooooooh. Unfortunately that is the only pair of those jeans I have, and they're a size ___" (they fit fine; she didn't ask what size I needed) "Those look better on my more lanky customers." (To my mom, as she's reaching for something to try on) "I have that in the next size up!" What's with the sudden sizeism, Dressers? I am your target market, a pretty solid size 8 (not that the number matters, but I do own other clothes). And I worked in retail in the past. Some training for your staff? The clothes are fantastic! My daughter and I wandered in and fell in love with the owner and all the beautiful clothes. She was old school in the way she brought us things that she picked and that were all cute and fit. I noticed that lately I've been giving lousy reviews out, so, in the spirit of Springtime I decided to give props to a business that I thought deserved it. On my last vacation to the states I stopped in a little boutique called Dressers. I had noticed the clothing in the window the night before while looking for a restaurant but they had been closed so I returned the next morning. I was extremely glad I did. The girl behind the counter was great, and heres why- she came out from behind the counter! So many times I go into boutiques and the salespeople have such a holier-than-thou attitude. It really grates on my nerves, they can't even afford the clothes they are pimping and they act like they are doing me a favor to take my plastic. Fortunately this girl was great. Friendly, and knew her stuff. I have a tendency to pick out the same clothes that I know I look good in, and she advised me to try on some things that I never would have glanced at and guess what? They looked great. She was also adept at finding my size without having to ask, as every girl knows different brands run quite differently so this was especially nice and cut down on my outfit switching time. I wish I knew her name so I could boost her specifically but oh well. Hopefully the other salespeople are as cool. As far as the store goes, the parking is on the street so there may be a problem there on a busy day but since this isn't an outlet mall we're talking about it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I was in there for 45 minutes and only 2 other customers came by so this place emphasizes quality over quantity. The clothing was great quality and on the pricer side. The usual higher end brands like Seven jeans, Michael Stars, Linq, Velvet and some more eclectic ones that I (the avid clothes horse) had never heard of. I found an awesome pair of butt flattering jeans that I recommend to all my friends (David Kahn). Seriously ladies, these jeans do for a derriere what a pushup bra does for 34DD. Makes good stuff better! I highly recommend this place, the service was great, its easy to find (being on the main street and all), and I'll love the clothes for years to come. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I am just a primadonna like that and I'm saving my 5 stars for my wedding night. read more

I love this store! The best thing about this clothing store is the personal and helpful employees! Tessa will figure your size out in seconds, pull tons of amazing clothes out and give you her honest (that's rare) opinion on how it looks- even if it looks bad. The part I like best about shopping here, is there is no pressure sales people! Everyone will be helpful and give options, but won't pressure you into purchasing. But I purchase a lot! Tessa helped me find what I had about given up on -- a dress to wear for my own wedding! Given the COVID situation, I had not been able to shop at all for several months. It was all made more difficult because I mostly knew what I did NOT want. Tessa had a good selection of dresses I did like -- and one that I loved -- which, like a fiancé, is as many as you really need. The ladies at Dressers have turned me on to two of my now favorite brands, Velvet and Goldsign. Their inventory is super high quality. Every piece I buy there ends up being one of my favorite clothing items. They always help me to pick out styles that will compliment my body type. Forget the big chain stores or buying on-line. Amazing, amazing shop! I've been shopping there almost my entire life. First visiting with my mom and being helped by Mary the owner, then as an adult being helped out by the incredible Tessa (Mary's daughter). This local little gem of a store will surprise you with both it's "of the minute" off the runway fashion and the always available selection of the classics. When I needed a perfect fit, black suit, I found one there that is not only the most comfortable suit ever to be made, but fun and fashionable as well. (it even has a front tummy panel that sucks you in without being uncomfortable). Needless to say I wear it to all my "power" meetings and get compliments every time! You must go and see the girls in Dressers, they will select things for you to try on that you would have no idea looked so darn good on you :) read more

I love this store and the woman who own and work here are very sweet. I always have the best experience and my friends and I make sure to stop in for a visit when we have a day in Sebastopol. The clothes range from affordable to higher end very beautiful pieces. These lady's have great taste and will help you find something that works for your body type. So be open to it, there is a mix of style and price and its the place to go for funky and flirty as well. Plus they can fit you for a new bra if needed. Beware of this store's NO RETURN policy. I went back within 24 hours -- tags on -- with my receipt -- to the girl that initially helped me. She said, no returns. Only store credit. Funny, no mention of that when I was on the purchasing end of things! I will drive to Corte Madera next time to shop Nordstrom. I am a big believer in shopping local, but not in a store where this type of policy exists. Shop local should be an attitude that extends from consumer to store and store to consumer. If you are going to spend 2x as much to " shop local", I expect a bit more from my local merchants. It is called customer service. read more

I love this place. My husband took me there about a year and a half ago and he enjoyed it as much as I did-- And this man is not a shopper, he usually falls asleep in the nearest chair. There is a spot for him to sit near the dressing rooms and he felt very welcome and part of things. We were there for quite a while and they made a coffee run and treated him to a mocha--his favorite. They encouraged me to try on some things I wouldn't have thought of and after many years of not wearing jeans, I walked out on cloud nine with 4 fabulous pairs! The only downside to this is that I felt so inspired in those sexy jeans that I lost some weight, started exercising and after a year and a half I need to go back and get smaller sizes! Hey, that turned out to be the most fun fitness program ever! The staff is helpful, bringing me dozens of pairs of jeans, something I never would have had the patience or now-how to do. The were equally as ready to whisk away anything I didn't want and gave me honest feedback about what looked good on me and what didn't. Okay, so it's pricey and it's a once a year date destination but totally fun to be treated so well and be surrounded by truly beautiful clothing. I'm a costume designer so I'm picky, picky, picky about fabrics, design and quality. Department stores feel like a chore, this quiet local spot feels like a holiday. read more

Dressers has old-time service - Tessa was helping me and combed the floor coming up with outfits I would never choose on my own - that look great.
