North of Terrell, we stopped at this very local cemetery as I was drawn to the history here presented on the Texas marker at the entrance. It's the sort of place you would miss if you weren't looking for it as the quiet settled around us once we stepped out of the car. No noise here. A few steps from the road and we didn't even hear the traffic passing by. Having visited at the nearby Poetry Methodist Church, this was particularly interesting to see those from town who had passed before. Standing at the gate provides more texture than just reading the marker. The cemetery is now closed for burials, and that gives it a certain stillness. You feel it as you walk the fence line, the sense that this is a completed chapter. The marker reads, "Named for a nearby ravine, this burial ground originally served the community of Turner's Point. Located on the stage road between Shreveport, Louisiana, and Dallas, the settlement was established by Elisha Turner in 1845. In the 1870s the town was moved to a new location (1.5 miles southeast) and renamed Poetry. The earliest marked grave at this site is that of Samuel Key (1840-1871). Now closed for burials, the cemetery has 279 marked graves bearing names of the English, Scottish, Irish, and Welsh pioneer settlers of the area." It is marker number 8506 and it was erected in 1980 by the Texas Historical Commission. It's clear the cemetery grounds are well cared for. The Dry Creek Cemetery Association is a volunteer group of descendants and community members who keep the grounds mowed and the stones tended. When making preparations for my mother, I asked the director to please put polish on my mother's nails. They did even beter, they put little sport length press-on nails and painted them a delicate pink color. My mother would have loved the way they looked. And she also looked beautiful in the face....such a professional. she look 20 years younger. thank you Rest Haven.

We also used them for my father in 2010 and had an equally positive experience. I don't know what happened between then and when the other individual had a bad experience. I hope they resolved everything for them and they also were dealing with things through COVID but that doesn't excuse what that person experienced. I do know the people there prior to COVID were absolutely the best and worked with us to make a very sad event easier.

NOTHING The list of excuses that have been given COVID & the Ice storm in February - which has set everyone back. Well....
