First off, I apologize for lack of photos. When we walked into this place, it was for the Wine…read moreTasting, so didn't even realize they had other things to purchase. It's not super easy to find! Dahlonega has lots of interesting twists and turns and back alley shops and some shops blended in so well with other places, that a random door opens up to more unique experiences. So, that's how we found this place. We were waiting to get our names in for Bourbon Street Grille, and this random door behind us boasted wine tasting. I thought it was just a one room deal behind us. When you see the door and the shop, you'll fully understand. If you like wine, this is worth it and a MUCH better deal than the Wine Festival (which is what we came for). It's not a big place and technically only has about 8 seats at the bar for tasting. Thankfully, it seemed all the festival goers didn't know about this place (bc it's totally a Harry Potter hidden type of deal) so we got 4 seats. The kids roamed around the shop while we tried wine. The flights are $12/$16 based off the wines you want. They have white, red, blended and rose. Oh, check in on Yelp and receive one free taste of any wine (I used mine)!!! I did the Rose, Merlot, Vidal Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and the Petit Manseng. Loved the Merlot (had a spicy after taste) the most! Then the Pinot Grigio. The Petit Manseng is their strongest wine but was my least favorite. However, I tasted the Trillium from someone else's in our group and LOVED IT. We ended up buying a bottle of Mtn Harvest Red plus the Apfelwein (the lady described it so well and made us want to get a bottle). I can honestly say I had such a buzz from the flight that I stopped drinking when we went to go eat. The wine was really good and certainly hit, so be careful! Totally worth checking this place out, if you can find it!!!

JUST IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES!…read more This is a tasting room that is located in the Carriage House Shoppes just off the square. It is a cool space that has an open ceiling and can be viewed from the second level. The space is very casual with a nice sized bar and some other casual seating options. Throughout the space local and non-local works of art are displayed, dolls, pottery, sculptures and baskets. The general space was so cool that my husband and I actually wandered in and spent time speaking with Carol who was working there at the time. I am not sure if she is the owner but wow! I would love to see the owner take this space and elevate it so that it is a true destination spot instead of just a casual encounter. If I owned this space, I would have more comfortable seating arranged in conversational patterns. I would offer specific date night packages or pamper dates for women and girls, (for the young girls, I would serve exotic fruit juice blends with no alcohol added). Instead of just offering wine, I would through in a little liquor and I would also offer casual snacks and desserts to pair well with the drinks and help to keep my guests content. In this very small area, there are four tasting rooms and I think that it is important to stand out. I also think that when you elevate the space and offerings, you automatically elevate the experience and that is great! Why not turn it up a notch? Despite the thoughts in my head, this is still a great spot for taking a much needed pause from shopping and touring. Don't hesitate to stop in and say hello! Ms. Carol loves company and has a warm and inviting presence. We really enjoyed visiting with her.

It's hard to believe that there are any negative reviews about this charming tasting room. I…read morerealize it has moved and is now located in a second-story building right off the main Square, so maybe any negative reviews were meant for the former location. Our experience was pleasant and Penny was a gracious host. We were offered a variety of wines to please any taste. The "patio" was spacious and offered a good view of the Square. I suggest the Chardonnay, which was fruity and not too buttery. The Georgia Winery Tasting Room offers tours from "Haunted Locations" to eateries and shouldn't be missed. They are on the "Time to Wine" list.

So Kaya has been on my list for a while for wineries to try. I've done others in the area but not…read moreKaya. In order to make my visit worthwhile, I decided to participate in the wine blending experience. Please note that this has to be booked ahead of time for them to prepare the items you need for the experience. When I entered the reception area of the winery I was greeted by who I know now is one of the owners which was a pleasant surprise. You get escorted down to the basement where the barrels and other items used in the winemaking process are stored. Imagine my excitement when I noticed the blending set up looked like a chemistry lab. The STEM girlie in me couldn't have been more excited! You are given some background on the history of the type of wines available and how certain blends are made. Once that is done, you are guided through blending your own wine; using 3 types of blends that are made on site at Kaya. The blends are red wines so if you prefer white blends this experience may not be for you. Once you complete your blend you seal it and label it and voila! Your own personalized wine. This experience was amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to come back to try it again. Nick was a top tier teacher for this experience!

It wasn't like the tour itself but actually got to make some bottles to take home of the wine. That in itself was worth it! So first things first you'll get there and you'll come into the lounge or cabin area and there are a couple of different spots you can go to. There is actually a spot for members only from what it looks like but there is a general spot and then there is a whole outdoor area like a patio. They have another outdoor area that is on the side of the building that you get the best view of the greenery and that's pretty amazing. It's a really nice view. If you're hungry, they have some small bites for you so don't feel like you have to drink and then not eat. Just in case you're wondering, they will have finger foods for you. It's nothing major but it's like dip or something along those lines so don't expect steaks. For the bottling you will go down to the basement where they have all the barrels (Nick was awesome and took care of everyone there). You will get to try a couple of different wines and mix those together to find a specific one that you like. At the end they will help you bottle it and cork it and then you will take it home. Overall if you haven't done any of the winery things in this part of Georgia, it would be a good place to start. Especially because there's so many in this area that you can do several in one day.
