If I could support my local business I would, but smaller owned art supply stores are vanishing. Smaller, local businesses like Du-All, know their stuff and they know what's good and what's not so good. I 'm in upstate NY and found this store on line by accident. GREAT customer service and follow up. My item was packed with care. Du-All carries quality drafting supplies and trust me, too many makers just don't make good stuff any more. I have a too many things that just won't "square." Spend once for a quality tool, then it will be with you for life. Du-All has fair pricing. You pay for what you get and maybe you pay a little less than a high falluting store that caters to a boutique crowd, but then you're also avoiding that "stuff" you get from the bigger places that just isn't what it should be. read more

I panicked when discovering that my technical pens did not work and class was only two days away. The outstanding CSR at Du-All was able to provide a new pen, ink and cleaner via next day delivery and all were on sale. She was understanding, patient and provided wonderful service to this frazzled customer!! Highly recommend! read more

I actually came here to get a portfolio that I will use to carry a gel mat around (I'm a musician and plan to take it to gigs where I stand all night). No one here treated me as if that were odd. In fact, they helped me put my mat in the case to make sure that it would fit. What's more, since I found the item on the web, they gave me the web price. Both the woman on the phone and the woman at the counter couldn't have been nicer. I plan to return here and recommend it to all of my art friends. read more

the last reviewer is clearly not an artist, but rather a rabid yelper. I went all the way to du-all from highland park to get supplies for an architectural design proposal. I am new to D Town, so thought I would at least check out the local drafting supply. I was hoping for something like ARCH in my beloved San Francisco. what I got instead was a poorly managed mom and pop where mom and pop don't even use the stuff they sell. literally. I had to help a fellow customer, because the owner didn't know how to direct her to the right product. that's pretty sad. the manager seemed a little ignorant about racial issues as well. and I had to listen to the dimwitted stock boy make life comments to his female coworkers, that is when he wasn't singing "G-I-JOE ! ... pause ... G-I-JOE ! ... pause ... G-I-JOE ... THE REAL AMERICAN HERO !!!" I wish I was making this up. when I first arrived, I was hopeful, seeing a Copic display case. these are the best pens money can buy, and they are resonably priced, super durable, exquisitely designed, fun to use, and very cheaply refilled. at least in those very few quality supply stores that actually care enough about their clients to give a crap about the products and prices they offer. Du-All, in every category, from tools and implements to supplies and service, is the company of the vast majority of sub-par supply stores. all of their supplies are poorly stocked, of limited selection, and priced 25-100% higher than MSRP! I try to avoid chain stores, but in this industry one rarely has a choice. I am going to Blick from now on. They have an impressive selection, and in an overpriced industry, it's hard to beat Blick's prices. Du-All is that special case that deserves ZERO stars. read more

This shop is loaded with fine art supplies like markers acrylics, inks, art themed books and much much much more.. in addition, Du-All offers shoppers a great selection of drafting and graphic design supplies as well. This hidden gem first came to my knowledge as a graphic arts student at OCC upon recommendation from my professor. I became a loyal customer on my first visit. Du-All offers great customer service, a well organized store, an huge selection of items that I had difficulty finding and competitive prices. Du-All Also offers art classes for kids and adults. So if you're a novice in the art world, let the instructors at Du-All illuminate your mind. Although, not a huge store Madison Heights' Du-All packs a serious punch. read more

I only dealt with this business for 2 weeks in November and never knew about them until recently. Words to describe them in that brief amount of time - UNRELIABLE, coy, lackadaisical, poor customer service, and a solid lack of any urgency. I was shopping for a material I never used before for an art exhibition project with an approaching deadline - large sheets of Gatorfoam board. One company in Wisconsin had it but the shipping cost was high and the shipping arrival date was Nov. 29, which would be too late. So I find out Du-All has the same product locally, though at a much higher price, but much cheaper deliver charge. Plus, they are only 30-35 miles away. Shop locally, support your local businesses, right? Well, they ignored 3 website/e-mail messages from me in one week regarding price, shipping charges, delivery, availability, etc. I had to call them and finally got someone to communicate with. It wasn't a speedy process though - it took 3 days to find out what I needed to know and I had to initiate most of the phone calls. I placed my order on a Friday, but it would still take until Tuesday to get the material from their warehouse, which is in Madison Heights nearby. This was a $470.00 order too. Supposedly (they told me) they'd call me to set a delivery time on the day before Thanksgiving. Once again, I didn't hear from them so I called and left a message. I got my second phone call from them during this whole mini-fiasco and got a whimpy, sheepish "Sorry, we won't be able to get your material to you today....we had an emergency..." etc.." I ran up to Home Depot and got a sheet of Masonite in a pinch, which I didn't really want to use, but I wasn't going to let them torpedo my plans. I got my large project done in ONE WEEK! I dicked around with these guys for 2 WEEKS, only to get let down by them! Du-All Art & Drafting Supply? More like DU-NOTHING Art and Drafting Supply. Had my trial with the Gatorboard gone well, this might have meant repeat business for them but they blew it solidly. Next time I'll try U-LINE in Wisconsin. They answered my first call right away and were ready to take my order. Forget Du-All, folks. read more

I've been to this store twice and both times were off putting. The first time was a year ago, I was looking for Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Inks, which are pigments, not actual India inks but that is the name of the brand. The first person I talked to had never heard of it so she asked the guy behind the counter if they carried colored India inks (not my words). He disdainfully replied, "There's no such thing as colored India ink." The attitude was shitty and rude. I don't care how knowledgable you are, there's a way not to come off as condescending to customers, especially since the guy had zero knowledge of the item I was looking for. My next visit I knew what I was looking for and despite having it in my hand and as I was obviously reading the back, I was interrupted not once but twice by two different people to ask if I needed help. If someone is reading leave them alone. I find this type of pushy "help" to be too much, it's a small store, there's no need for every staff member to ask if I need help because you're bored. The store was rather empty. Stalkery and uppity staff. I'd rather drive to Blick in Royal Oak since they're friendlier and less uppity about their art supplies. They're also knowledgeable without talking to their customers like they're stupid. LASTLY Their stretched canvas prices are way over priced, I was better off getting mine at Michael's during their 50% off sale. read more

I was looking for a gift for my girlfriend's birthday as she is into drawing as a hobby and Matt was very helpful in the store helping me find something she would like. I have no experience in the field of drawing and know next to nothing about it, but Matt helped me find something that she enjoyed. I don't know why someone would leave such a bad review of this place. I've been here multiple times without a any bad experiences. It sounds like someone was having a bad day. read more

I went to Du-All for the first time a few months ago, because I had a huge list of supplies to get for a design class in college. The friendly guy behind the counter took me around the store, showing me the stuff on the list and even explaining what I was probably going to use it for in class. I was able to get everything I needed, and was really happy to have someone help me pick the right supplies. I've been back there for a few odd items since then, and so far have had nothing but positive experiences! read more

I love this store. I went to Du-All this past weekend because I had to buy a canvas for my first art class. I had been wanting to go in for a while because of my little crafts I make but just hadn't gotten over there yet. When I frirst walked in, I was greeted with a big hello, how are you and may I help you. After about 5 minutes of walking around, the manager/owner came over and asked if I had any questions. I had found my canvas fine but I had questions about their screen printing kits (I didn't know they would even carry them, so I wanted to know more about them). I was extremely happy. Then when I went up to cash out, the cashier noticed my canvas and asked me what size it was. He went back to the floor and grabbed me another one and told me it was buy one get one free. He could have just let me get the one only and more money for them at a later date but he didn't. The manager also told me on other transactions that are not on sale of course, they take 10 percent off when you are going to school. I definitely will be back! read more
