Stay away. Very shady from the beginning. From the application process to signing up for the Credit Union, the whole experience has been abysmal. I signed up for a 450$ promotional offer on one of their accounts. The process online required me to go in-branch for verification. They tell me I should get my debit card "soon". Weeks past and no debit card. I call them and they then tell me I should have "asked" for one. I go in and another rep tells me that's incorrect and hands one to me - red flag #1. Get the debit card, create my account. Login to said account and there's an error that states "An unexpected error has occurred. If this is your first log-in after the recent online upgrade, please re-set your Memorized Accounts. This will be required only once." Yet, I see this error EVERY.SINGLE.TIME, DESPITE re-setting the memorized account. I reach out, it's fixed for awhile, and now it happens, intermittently- red flag #2. Stated the 450$ promotional offer was anticipated to go into accounts the "First week of April". The terms and conditions were changed to state that instead to "in April". Still, radio silence from them throughout with nothing in my account. I called, and the rep stated I qualified for the bonus and they'll reach out to me the end of April to follow up. It's now May. I called again, rep: "Duca is having problems with the promotional offer, we'll let you know when it's resolved". Others have stated they did not receive the bonus, even though they've met qualifications with reps being told by head office of a stipulation that wasn't, and still isn't as of the time of this review, stated in their qualifying terms and conditions - red flag #3. Lastly, they charge you a $4 fee if you have less than 1000$ in this account. However, some have been charged despite meeting this minimum requirement. I've filed a complaint with Duca, and will be following up with the ombudsman. In the mean time, I'd advise everyone to avoid this company as it's clear they don't hold their word, and - in my personal opinion - capable of deceptive/scam practices. Go anywhere else. read more

Extremely dishonest organisation. Signed up for an offer and met their terms and conditions to a tee. Paid the monthly bank charges which was part of the conditions set. They are refusing to honour the offer as they are adding to the terms to deny many genuine customers. It's disgusting. Never come across anything like this. Even the customer service staff can't believe what head office are doing to avoid making good on their promise. Many, like myself are taking this to the credit union ombudsman now. read more

Staff changes so often and seem generally lethargic and not very knowledgeable. DO NOT BUY CLASS B SHARES. They will push it and the interest rate may be appealing but you may as well kiss your money good bye until you die and your estate can finally free up the money. Each year in early January, investors must sign up to enter a draw for some of the money that Duca decides to free up as investment return to those who bough the damn things. What are the chances? I've tried for 2 years and can't get any of my money back. A sizable amount is technically legally frozen and kept by the company. Great legal scam, Duca. Other credits unions are offering similar investments. Don't fall for it. Stick to regular GIC's instead, despite the appeal of the higher interest rate. read more

It has slid so far from what it was when I first joined Duca in the 80s. I blame the bankers and IT pinheads which have taken over head office on yonge street. The front line staff are great and those who remain from the good old days cant wait to turn 65. Duca is still better than a bank, but not by much. read more

Duca has some great savings rates from time to time, and some good promotions, but if you need your funds urgently you are often out of luck. Very unresponsive customer service, too. I have waited days to have replies about urgent issues. So, I would only recommend for people who want to park their savings for long periods of time without needing any immediate access to it. read more

Originally attracted to DUCA by its higher interest and eventually moved all my life time savings to this institution. Recently account and/or computer being compromised and large amount (much more than what i have in the account) was tried to be draw out from my account. Fortunately, noticed by me and contacted financial institutions to ensure no money send and moved. Assured by DUCA no money was send out. Charged by DUCA for non sufficient fund and some other fees. Its totally understandable and thankful it was stopped. Changed me banking password and changed me computer and thought it was the end of the story. I then left 1000 in the checking account so don't get charged for the minimun account balance, and moved most of my fund to the savings for the higher interest. The following month, I surprisingly noticed that about 150 dollar was charged to my checking account. Told by Duca member connect only talk to local DUCA branch can have the charge removed. later get a call from the branch and was told its the interest charged to my account for the non sufficient fund due to the delay/ processing time on their system and he's not going to remove it. Asked him that he didn't lend any penny to me and he didn't loose any money its all due the system processing time set up by the institution, why should i be charged for the interest? In other words, i asked you to lend me some money, you said no and didn't lend me a penny, but you still want to charge me for the interest for the money you didn't lend to me in the first place. Its totally non sense, but was told its the way the system is. Asked to talk to the manager, it turns out he is the manager. Asked to file a complaint, it turns out all the complaint will eventually ended up to be rerouted to him. banking is all about trust and we banking with particular institution basically means we entrust all of our life long hard earn money to them. And most of the customers using the institution are not trained and/or have a degree in the banking/financial system, how could an institution designed to trick the customer win the trust of the people. When we are chasing for higher interest, we'd better be watching out that loosing our principles to some tricky institutions. I barely avoided to be an online banking fraud victim but unavoidable becomes the victim of the banking institution. Their newly secretly imposed minimun account balance fee to their checking account also seems tricky. it seems even if you have the mininum 1000 dollar in the account, they will still charge the 4 dollar fee anyway, which will result in you account balancing below 1000, so it will be legit for them to charge the 4 dollar fee. so you probably have to keep at least more than 1004 to avoid the charge. read more

Recently I had terrible experience with DUCA regarding transfer of registered plans from other financial institution. The cheques got lost due to their negligence. The issue is still unresolved. Also, my personal confidential information was released to an unauthorized third party. Furthermore, in the correspondence, by their error, I received personal confidential information related to one of their clients. I don't trust DUCA anymore. Friend could not touch his account for 7 years once he invested which is fine and common. Now that he is trying to move the account after the 7 years, he can only do that on the first business day of the year, and only on that day, and you have to go in person and wait in line with many other people who try to get their money back. If you cannot make it on that day, you are out of luck, they keep your money for another 365 days. I'd stay away for sure. read more

Who shuts down the whole system for 4 days for banking system upgrades, only Duca, no access to funds, can't make deposits check balances send etransfers, nothing!!!, their member connect says he cant help with anything, I asked hime what is the purpose of him answering the phone, he replied that Duca says to keep the line open while they close down all their branches, online banking and ATMs for four day. Horrible customer service. Spoke to Jose from the Etobicoke branch about breaking my current mortgage. He estimated it at a ridiculously high amount. He was supposed to call me back regarding my question and said I would hear back Within 24 hours. It has now been a week and I haven't heard back. Ive called the branch several times with the promise of him calling me back. I have recently tried to get in touch with a manager and she or he has been unavailable every time and also hasn't called back. Would not recommend Duca for any of their services if this is how they treat a customer who has been with them for over 6 years. read more

For personal banking, we started using DUCA over a decade ago when we needed a mortgage as their rates are soooo much better than the big banks. Obviously fewer branches than the big banks so less convenient, but the minor inconvenience is well worth the major savings on interest payments and service fees. You can do almost everything needed via automated payments, interact and online. If you really want the convenience of a big bank for access to cash via ATMs without service charges, just keep an account open there and route a small percentage of your pay (most companies let you split your direct deposit), but do as much as you can via DUCA to avoid big bank gouging. read more

I've had a generally positive experience with Duca so far, and I've been banking with them for approximately 6 months. I deal specifically with either Customer Care, or the Mississauga Branch. I found the setup process quick and easy, and was to get everything taken care of initially online. Their no fee chequeing and high interest savings are the best I've seen, and I have shopped around. Whenever I've stopped by the branch without an appointment the branch manager was always able to accommodate me. There does seem to be a lag between the branch and the head office, For example they ran two credit checks, one for opening the accounts and another when applying for overdraft. They already had the initial check on file at head office, but the branch did have access to that. Be aware of that if you're doing in-branch banking. I like that I'm an "owner" and will earn shares based on my volume of banking. So far, so good! read more

I've had a string of unpleasant experiences with duca and I'm not sure they are specific to the union or just the banking system in Canada ( I'm new here). In no particular order: 1. My first cheque was held for ten business days.. No flexibility was shown on this policy and I missed out on a lease. My first wage was paid by cheque and as a new Canadian this caused me unnecessary headache.. Moving country is tough in those first few weeks so holding on to my wages without genuine good reason is behavior I'd expect from a bank not a credit union. 2. International transfers must be done either in person or by mail.. Faxed or emailed documents are not accepted. Fine duca are a small credit union but in this day and age that's really a bit behind the times. 3. This is more Canada wide than for duca. How can you get by in Canada without a credit card? They don't make it easy and credit unions should be leading the way here.. Come on. I have a visa debit card from the uk and one from the USA but here the only institution to offer a visa debit card is cibc. If I need to buy stuff online/ book flights etc I need a credit card. I really don't want one and feel there's no way around it here. 3b. On the topic of credit cards I asked duca for some details. The cards are actually issued by a 3rd party and not duca.. They are not accessible from your duca online login so you cannot manage the cards online in conjunction with your duca accounts. Try paying a credit card bill under that system sounds like a nightmare.. Picture late fees and lack of ease in managing your finances.. Not very credit union like. 4. I looked into their paid for account for unlimited pos and cash withdrawals etc. the fee is fine but the teller could not tell me when the fee comes off and whether I'd be charged in an instance where a fee was missed due to insufficient funds. All in all a disappointing experience and I've only been with them a month... I won't be with them by next month read more

From good to bad to worse. This will not be your choice for financial services if you are a business. The lack of communication from head office and the frustration dealing with their poor leadership at head office is enough to make a person go mad. They only know how to mail out letters and do not understand how email works or even how to make a simple phone call. The branches are fine for personal transactions and the basics but they cannot compete with the big banks. They do not have near the vast amount of knowledge when compared. Ten years ago it was a good choice. Five years ago it was fine. One year ago it was ok. Today - it is only a little credit union masquerading around, pretending to be great when it is not. Do yourself a favour and shop at one of the banks that has good reviews for business before you get sucked in, like we have, for far to long. read more
