We hired Dude I Need A Truck because of the great reviews but we had a terrible experience. First off, we scheduled to have two guys come and one of them was almost 45 minutes late. But I was still charged for his time! Then they ended up racing through our job and damaged several pieces of furniture. When I pointed out an obvious scratch and chip in the finish on my dining room table, they started making all sorts of excuses about how they didn't do it but it was obvious they did. I had eaten breakfast at that table that morning and it was perfect. They then continued to complain about how they didn't do the damage the rest of the time instead of focusing on the job. As we are moving boxes and unpacking, we have discovered multiple pieces of furniture that have been damaged and marred by their carelessness, including an irreplaceable dresser I inherited from my grandfather. We will never use this service again. We wish we had paid more and gotten real, responsible movers! We have continued to find damage as we unpack. These guys damaged almost every piece of furniture they touched. There are also gouges in our freshly painted walls. Help ignored our emails reporting this. We Look elsewhere! read more

My dude was OK. Things could've definitely went much smoother. He wasn't mean but he wasn't very friendly or talkative either and didn't communicate well. I had to text my dude first to make sure he would be able to handle my move and verify the time and got a pretty short and blunt reply. He showed up 5 minutes late as well and I was worried he'd be a no show, causing more embarrassment! It doesn't sound like much but the sun was setting and we were picking the items up from a very nice home and neighborhood and didn't want to piss the owners off! Overall I felt pretty awkward and stressed. It works kind of like Lyft/Uber when you wait for someone to accept your ride. I do like how you can adjust a future date and time for a ride. When I initially requested my move and got the text saying they'd find me a dude in "5-15 minutes" it turned more into 20+. Then I decided to cancel it and tried requesting one again waiting over 15 minutes, resulting in a further delay from my original request time (hour+) and I was super worried about waiting for someone to accept my trip, which was transferring a washer/dryer from a house from upper state to Goleta. It was my first time using and finding this app for the SB area after someone had recommended Lugg to me but discovered that was only for the Bay Area/LA. I got quoted $95 for the move which was way cheaper than other estimates I was getting from regular companies ($165+) and was desperate to get our items moved that day. My dude had an interesting mini skinny van but half of it was full of miscellaneous things like a bed. He didn't reveal to us until after that he just installed his ramp on the back of his car. His car & engine also almost didn't start again after getting to the pickup location! Overall our washer/dryer made it 95% safe and sound into our place but it was sketchy and awkward because of his car troubles and lack of friendliness/communication. Watching him try to load the items on and off was borderline high blood pressure! Also sketchy was that I got charged a day later and got a notice that my driver changed after the trip occurred. I made sure to text my original dude to see if this was ok just because I wanted to make sure the right "dude" was getting paid. He said it was ok, but I wish my experience could've matched the other 5 star reviews and had better customer service! They were awesome. Super flexible, super reliant. I recommend asking for Conrad Nolan. I had a lot of stuff that was going to require multiple trips using his truck. He told me it was no problem and he went and got a trailer free of charge so that we could fit it all into one move. Also, it was raining and he provided wrap, plastic bags, and covers. During the actual move Conrad was fast and productive. For example, I'm not a strong guy myself, but Conrad took on a lot of the heavy lifting by himself and with his help we moved my couch up and down a flight of stairs with ease. Fitting it in the doorway? No problem. Conrad rotated and flipped it and had it in the living room in about 3 seconds. Dude, it's called Dude I Need a Truck. Best name ever, and it's exactly what it sounds like. Think Uber/Lyft truck share with driver for small loads. I used the Dude to move a mattress to a storage unit, and had him help my husband move a couch between apartments while he was there. I described what I needed in the app when I booked the job, so my guess is that the drivers will self screen for things they can't or won't do, but if you have questions I found their customer service to be really responsive a previous time I got a quote. For small, simple moves and hauling projects this is brilliant. Not sure how useful it would be if you have a ton of stuff to move (you may want to make sure you have at least two people to help with big bulky stuff--and only so much will fit in a pick up), but for my purposes this was exactly what I needed. Actual movers would have been ridiculously overkill. I especially like how easy and fast it is. No need to plan in advance. I scheduled my dude just two hours in advance, and clearly could have had someone there sooner (but I wasn't ready). I love how last minute this was. read more

Excellent service!! My friends and I had to move a couch to a storage unit, and our Dude, Marcus, was super friendly, helpful, and very patient with us! He helped us physically move the couch out of the house, into the truck, and into the storage unit. We had a few problems on our part, not knowing exactly what our storage unit # was (we were sharing with other friends who had forgot to mention it), but he was very patient and flexible, offering to drive us there, and if it didn't work out, drive us to our back-up house. Overall, this service is super, super convenient if you don't have your own truck and don't need one as big or expensive as a Uhaul! We will definitely be using this app again in the future! I've used Dude for the past maybe four moves that I've had. One word: CONRAD. He is the go to!! He helped me with the first 3 of my moves and he made it incredibly easy, transparent and fun. He is an awesome man and if you had 100 Conrad's working there, you'd be batting 1000. I've recommended him to all of my friends and coworkers, and those who have had his help on a move cannot stop gushing about how amazing he is. Now, my 3 stars is because on my most recent move I had an awful experience. I used the app to book a move time, and for some reason it only allows you to set up 1 Dude and 1 truck. Now, I was moving an entire apartment and really needed at least 2 Dudes and 2 trucks. I contacted the guy I was assigned and let him know that. He basically told me that he could find a friend that would assist for some extra $$ under the table. Not ideal but I was desperate because I'd just sustained a knee injury and was limping around and in no shape to be lifting anything. The original guy showed up, struggled to move a few things, asked me for help constantly and generally did a terrible job. I'm wondering where his friend was? After a couple trips, we get to my new place with all the stuff, and he leaves to go pick up his friend who did pretty much nothing in terms of moving the big items into my new garage. He then asked for $150 on top of what I paid to Dude for his friend and another $50 for the "inconvenience" of having to go get his friend, and his friend leaving work early. This felt extremely sketchy, and I was super uncomfortable with the whole thing. I honestly just wanted these guys to leave, so I paid them. This review would have been 5 stars if I'd have gotten Conrad, or someone with similar work ethic as him. These guys who showed up were unprofessional, and basically strong-armed me out of way more money than was originally agreed upon. Used dude again, it's basically Uber for a truck - a brilliant business in a tiny town full of sedans - I paid $75 for a table and bench set which I loved, and it was basically given to me - Dude picked up for me down town (in two hours from payment which was awesome) and brought this massive table set to Goleta for $95. Listen it saved me a trip to chiropractor and the Dude Himself was a chiropractor picking up some extra money on a Sunday. He was very very nice man and my table which cost me $170 totally i get sooo many compliments on and yes I could have borrowed a truck but what if my friends truck got scratched up? This past weekend was Isla Vista's UCSB annual end-of-the year move out ... which roughly translates to "72 hours of chaos and no available moving trucks." My son had a 10am reservation with one of the local smarmy U Haul peddlers, but upon arrival it became apparent that our "friends" at said rental facility had offered at least 8x the number of reservations as they had trucks. Dude is the first moving service I've ever used, and I am super happy with my choice! I got quotes from most of moving companies in the area and DUDE was by far the most cost-effective. I requested my job less than a week prior to my move time, and was quickly accommodated with an easy check-out process and friendly service. They kept me updated on who was going to help me move and the other details regarding the process. The guy who helped me move texted me 24 hours ahead of time to confirm his arrival. Last minute, my move ended up being a bit more complicated than I expected, and the mover kindly worked with me during every step of the way. The ONLY caveat about using this service is that the truck which was provided was a standard truck with standard capacity. I had to do two trips to the storage, which is time costly - but I still saved a nice chunk of money by using this service instead of the others who have large moving trucks. Aside from that, I would definitely recommend DUDE to anyone in the area that needs some strong assistance and a truck! read more

Wow, what great service! The "dude" aka Marcus arrived on time and was very helpful. He went above and beyond to help me out with my move. We were initially only going to move my bed and two bikes into my new place, but there was an old bed in the spot I was going to move my new bed. Marcus was more than helpful with helping me move the unexpected bed out. It took a lot of extra time because we actually had to break it to get it out of the doorway. Great service; however, need to work out the kinks in the app. I booked a dude for Saturday am. When I checked Friday night to make sure all was set, noticed the reservation was for 9pm Saturday night. No problem, used the iPhone app to text our dude David (who was so helpful and friendly!). We were able to reconfirm Saturday am start in a few minutes with no issue. Saturday morning, David texted when he was on his way and received the app notification. After the first load I requested a dude "right now" with David and his phone right next to me. Two other dudes picked up my request first. After the 3rd time and talking to the other two dudes, finally hooked up with David again for the 2nd and final load for us. It took a solid 30 min out of our move day, which sucked. Not the end of the world. Given that the app is just released, they have some tweaks to make, but overall extremely pleased with the service and overall ease and cost. After those tweaks I'd give dude I need a touch 5 stars. Sooooo easy! read more
