I visited on a warm weekday afternoon between Christmas and New Years and saw only a few other folks out on the trail. There's a big loop that's about 1.5 miles, or you could do a shorter loop. The trail is mostly shaded and quite flat, making it an easy stroll and accessible for kids (including strollers) and people who need low intensity hikes; there are many benches along the way. Many parts are wooden bridges out over the marshland; at the right time of day you can see fiddler crabs in the water. (If it's recently rained, don't go at high tide; parts of the trail may be wet or muddy!) You'll find a really nice variety of trees and micro climates- the grasses and small trees in the marsh land are quite different from the hardwood forests and pines just a few feet further inland. This trail would be especially lovely at sunrise or sunset. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the Emerald Isle/Swansboro area!

We rode the boat around and down to Washington then stopped by here on our return to the launch to drive home. It was getting to the end of the day with the air cooling down and the sun setting. This spot combined with the Blount's Creek that lets out through here made for a wonderfully peaceful and quiet setting. The docks were clean. There's a gas pump with extending hose line so you can fill your boat at the dock. Inside there's an expansive store with shirts, food, snacks, boat and camping supplies. Even tube, kayak and SUP rentals. But I would be remiss not to mention the funny and friendly staff serving up ice cream. It's not 31 flavors but I think most anyone can find something they like out of the 6 or so they have. Looking for a chill out to wrap up a day on the water? This is the place.

You can be 5 minutes away from hubs of commerce and activity and it looks like you are in the middle of nowhere. My brother had bought a boat and it was docked at the marina. I spent about 10 days here and had a fairly good time. There is a little store that sells wine and beer and snacky-type foods. A laundry with washers and dryers is in the clubhouse. Adjacent to the headquarters is a restaurant/bar (they didn't have their liquor license yet when I was there) where the food is decent, if it is still extant. Lots of dock..._lots_ of dock. The slip was almost as far away from the parking lot as you could get. The marina has wheeled carts that you can load your gear into to facilitate loading your boat. That helped, but I swear, it was like a quarter-mile round trip to return the buggies so other folks could use them. Unless you're a raving asshole and just leave them parked on the pier. I saw some of that. Helpful folks running the place. I had occasion to talk to them several times and they were friendly and helpful. No pretentiousness or aloofness. If you are in the area, toodle on over and check it out. It is quite a drive from New Bern proper, but if you are starved for recreation, you could do worse.

This young man is recognizable with long blonde hair with dreadlocks, hopefully he is working if you use this marina. The main disadvantage is it is not located walking distance from town. The marina has no bikes or other transportation. Bathrooms are clean, however like the previous post, there is nothing stocked in the store.

There is a Walmart, Lowes, Dicks Sporting goods, and several grocery stores (Lowes, Piggly Wiggly, and Food Lion) all within 6 miles of the marina. Best of all they have courtesy car you can use for around $10 for two hours. Two good restaurants in area, the Sanitary and Floyds 1921. Both have been in business a very long time. There is fas and diesel fuel available along with coin laundry and dryer machines (around $2 a load) plus nice clean restrooms with showers.

I'm a simple man with simple ways and modest income so owning a luxury yacht or boat to be docked at this marina, are nothing more than a pipe dream for me, so no...I do not have a boat. When the temperature and weather cooperates like it did today, it's a serene place to hang out and just take it all in. Had I made some different life choices, decisions and changes in the past, it could have been possible for me to enjoy this marina every single day on a boat of my own. But, that's not the way it worked out so I just resorted to envying and appreciating the beautiful, nautical vessels that were docked.
