We would return here for the price, location, and basics.

They are not quite finished with all the new cable lines but it looks like that will be done shortly. The wifi is limited to just around the office area so don't expect any around the sites. Great cell coverage for both AT&T and TMobile since it is close to town. Some of the sites are long time leased so there is a nice "neighbor" base of people there. Located very close to an IGA grocery store and Walmart is about 5-10 mins away. We will definitely be back!

I decided to give Cedar Point a try because it is close to Camp Lejeune Marine base. I like being near military bases for use of their facilities. I know it was off season, so the natural beauty would be waning. Still, the facility is disappointing. The sites are nice and well spaced, but the place is tired and worn. They do have electricity available but no water at the sites. There is a dump station in the campground. The bathhouse is terrible. The showers are old and unheated. The shower is not inviting and I couldn't get hot water to ever show up. Just a push button so no way to control temperature. The men's urinal is out of order. I will say that the place is very clean but that is the only positive aspect of the shower. There is a short hiking trail within walking distance of the campground that runs along the marsh. It's also well used but pretty, even in December.

You can also make reservations through recreation.gov. We paid $17 for a site with electric and water hookups with my husband's NPS lifetime Senior pass. It's a relatively small campground with all sites in one loop. Pros. *well-priced for a site with electricity and water. *sites are very large, with long-g-g driveways to accommodate large RVs. *each site had a fire ring and picnic table. *good restrooms and showers for paying guests. *friendly and helpful camp host. *clean, with a feeling of being in nature with frolicking squirrels. Cons. While the camp guests were quiet, given its location, the campground itself wasn't. There was quite a lot of air traffic noise from nearby military installations (Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point; US Coast Guard), as well as some traffic noise from a few streets over. Nonetheless, we would stay here again if in the area.

This is the second time we've stayed here and both times the rooms have exceeded our expectations. Super clean & smells wonderful. The layout of the rooms are great & very spacious. Rather secluded and completely empty when I went there at around 6pm mid August Friday evening. I believe there are 2 areas for a small picnic and grill as well. Make your way up the wooden walkway and in a minute you get to the ocean, beach wide open for you after taking the steps down. There are shells everywhere washed up on shore and tiny little crabs burying into the sand. Only been there once but the waves were rather large that day, not good for kids. Could be different on other days, but were far stronger than at the Pier on emerald Isle.

I enjoy the outdoor showers as we can get showered off and clean off our equipment after coming in from the ocean before getting back into the car. The walk to the ocean is a dream across a well built and properly maintained wooden walkway. It cuts directly through myrtle and yaupon stands so you can see inside that incredibly interesting biome. It is a unique and wonderful experience for birdwatchers and artists. The walkway continues to rise above the dunes and the view of how a barrier looks in pristine state is received. Wonderful! The walkway continues down to the beach. There are stairs that lead down to the shore. Though it is difficult getting a wheelchair down there is a small deck at the top where, with umbrellas or other means, the view and breezes could be enjoyed. The beach itself is a great place to visit. The waters are clear. There is no lifeguard here so all caution should be taken. Riptides and occasional sharks occur here. At high tide the two 'shelves' that are close in will be obscured, so be careful. During turtle breeding season there may be nests near this location. I love to observe them even if I am not there during hatching. Shorebirds sometimes abound and porpoises, dolphins and even whales may be seen!

We headed to the dock to find out about a boat tour but the company we were searching was no longer…read morein business. We learned this from the most engaging couple, Captain Jack and Mate Marilyn, who just happened to have their own boat excursion company. We decided to cruise with them the next morning around 9:30. We arrived about 9:10, they welcomed us aboard and we were off on a 90 minute excursion. The boat is electric so we were able to approach birding areas without frightening the little critters, such as the nesting Ospreys. We were also able to have delightful conversations about nature, the effects of Hurricane Michael on the area, the lovely church where Marilyn and Jack attend and many more interesting facts about the New Bern area. We were totally mesmerized with the outing and the 90 minutes passed much too fast. It was a beautiful day, an enchanting "voyage" and a totally enjoyable adventure with Dragonfly Cruises. By all means do it when you're in New Bern!
