This is a nifty 50's style diner. The coffee is strong, the prices are fair and the waitress is friendly. If you order fried chicken, be prepared to wait. They cook it to order, which is a huge plus as far as I'm concerned. The burger is seasoned meat on a toasted bun. Fries are great. In New Iberia heading to the Casino. Found Duffy's on social media. This place looks like and old style diner. Pretty cool inside. Real diner look. We had to split an order of Hot Tamales, they were good. Wife had the special Crawfish burger. Not a lot of taste and not much crawfish. I had the Shrimp Stew. A lot of food , a little spicy but not bad. Potato Salad was too cool for me. All in all we would return. It seems like everyone was ordering the fried chix, and it looked really good. read more

So apparently New Iberia is known for its food in the state of Louisiana. You wouldn't know it from eating here! We did the Avery Island tour (where Tabasco sauce is made) and asked one of the employees to recommend a good place to eat. We got to this diner themed place. Very large on the inside. Took a while to be greeted by anyone, but once we were things seemed to move along ok. The place is entirely staffed by teen girls, so maybe that explains the slow service. I ordered the oyster po-boy, and hubby ordered the seafood platter. The oysters on my po-boy were soooo greasy. My hubby's plate wasn't too good either. Seafood was small and the batter was too thick and the fries were burnt. My aunt ordered the gumbo, which was runny and smelled fishy. My hubby is a chef and he noticed the crab shells had old food residue on the inside (apparently restaurants re-use them because they're expensive-gross!) The only redeeming quality about this place was the malts. They were good. Food does not warrant the prices it carries. Will not be returning. read more

I always have to check out Duffy's diner every time I come visit my grand kiddos in New Iberia. This last time we were in town we had lunch. Full staff on top of things. I had the crab cakes with etouffee on top . OMG deliciousness is an understatement. read more

5/26/14: so I'm home on leave now and I decided to take my son out to lunch. We walked in and with her back turned, I heard, "you can sit anywhere." So we sat near the door. Although our waitress was ok and pretty quick, I noticed how everyone else was treated as they walked in. The lack of a welcoming environment is very unbecoming, but the food is good so I guess that's what the owners are building their confidence on. I highly suggest that you hire people who understand the importance of customer service because the hostess and STAFF seriously lacks it! I am from New Iberia and I never miss a visit to Duffy's Diner while I'm there. The shrimp po-boys are delicious! I went to Duffys based on the Yelp reviews and it was the worst experience of my stay in New Iberia. It was a Saturday night but the service was so slow! It took over 1.5 hours for our meal to be served. My salad was served in a plastic container, with packaged dressing, croutons and what I assumed was bacon bits. I got a little plastic fork to eat it with. My dining partner had to change his order in a effort to get our meal quicker. In a region known for Cajan food this grub was anything but special. I had high hopes for Duffy's Diner. Sigh.. The good- we had an awesome server, my husband's Shrimp Po Boy was excellent The bad- first, the place needs a good cleaning. What I am talking about is not "every day" cleaning. There's months of neglect under the tables, around the legs, the walls under the tables. Also, just try to get the lid off of the spicy ketchup (i think it was spicy ketchup) bottle..... Good Lord, it is just plain gross......bacteria heaven. I walked in to order take out, and the first thing I saw was a line of waitresses behind the counter looking miserable. No smiles (until later), just flat stares. After I stated my reason for being there, I ordered the 3 piece (white) fried chicken with cajun fries. She said it would take about 20 min, which I expected after reading all your reviews. I sat down at the bar and after 2 minutes, she said it was ready! Wow! Half awesome, half....was that fresh? Anyways, I took it back to the hotel room and opened it. The fries had good seasoning but were a but soggy - probably from being in a paper bag for 15 min. The chicken wings were great. The chicken breast was a bit dry. I had anticipated such some good food to walk away disappointed was to say the least. First everything seems to have some spice in it. Even the kids meals. We used to be able to count on Duffy's for a good dining experience, but over the last few years we have had more and more reasons to avoid the place. For one thing, many New Iberians apparently do not share my opinions of Duffy's because it is generally overrun with clientele, and wait times for dining in can be longish. If you're going for drive-thru though, best to park, get out of the car and go in to the counter for quickest service ... you'll spend 20-45 minutes waiting to get through the car line otherwise, frequently waiting even more after you've paid at the window for someone to come out and find your vehicle--meanwhile your vehicle is plugging up the works for others attempting to navigate the tight little parking lot around the front parking area. As for the food, I don't think they change out the grease often enough, because while the chicken is great eating, I can invariably count on 2-4 hrs indigestion after consuming it. And the fries are great if you get them in the diner, but they do not suffer the trip home very well -- too greasy, and they're a soggy mess at the house. The rice dressing (which I tend towards) is consistently pretty tasty. I have read complaints about the wait staff in some of the other reviews, and that is not consistent with my experience. The girls at Duffy's are hard working and have always endeavored to get my order straight and as quick as they are able. Allow me to suggest being a better tipper ... these girls have earned it. Other reviews are dead on regarding the cleanliness ... Duffy's has striven to maintain a sort of 50's kitschy atmosphere, and for the most part they achieve that, but it detracts from the experience when you see all the trash on the floors and the grime on the walls. The concern of course is if this is what they let the customers see, what must the kitchen be like? I'd like to see Duffy's reinvest themselves in their business a bit. Obviously many locals consider them a New Iberia landmark and like the place. They should return the love. It wouldn't be that hard to pick things up again. read more

Terrible service. They forgot an item last week. We called got "credit" for it. Ordered again this week and told them about it they said ok. It wasn't in the bag. Pulled to the side and called. They said it would be 5 mins. Well it was 25 mins. Terrible management at this place. Terrible service. Would give them negative stars if it was an option. I am from Ohio and my wife is from New Iberia. Every time I travel to Louisiana, I have to go to Duffy's Diner. The fried catfish basket is the best catfish that you will eat anywhere. If I am there a week, I will spend at least 3 meals eating my favorite meal at Duffy's. I do a great amount of business travel all over the country and everywhere I go I try the catfish (if they serve it). No one has been able to match the quality and flavor of Duffy's diner. Has gone downhill in the last year. Take out shrimp basket I recently had was like eating shrimp jerky with unseasoned cardboard breading. Fries and bread were soggy and greasy. 1st time thought was fluke or cook had bad day. 2nd time was passable but not up to standard. 3rd time never again. The worst ever. Beware of the "chili dog". You don't get a "dog" only the chili. How stupid is that? My hubby ordered a chili dog last week from the take-out window and got home to discover there was no wiener in it. Thought it was just a mistake in the kitchen. Not so. I called a week later to order a chili dog and told the order taker to please make sure we got an actual wiener on the bun, and then she informed me that their chili dogs do not come with the dog, just the chili. What?? We had a lengthy conversation about this and I told her I wanted a hot dog...actual meat wiener.. with chili, cheese and onion. She says no problem. My first thought was to get the shrimp po-boy which my friend next to me enjoyed and it looked delicious. He said it was great! I should have trusted my gut. I haven't had Louisiana seafood in a long time, and the crab cakes with etouffee sounded like what my grandmother used to make. I was sorely disappointed that it was a thin, frozen, patty with a microscopic amount of minced crabmeat and a watery brown sauce with 2 tiny pieces of crawfish. To add to my splurge, I decided on a cherry shake from their menu of delicious ice cream treats. I received a small glass with a pink watery liquid. When I asked about the ice cream in the shake, the waitress said "It's in there". Then she told me she'd make me another without milk. I didn't see the milk or ice cream in the first place, so I didn't think I'd miss it. She gave me a much larger styofoam cup with ice cream mixed with cherries. At least, it tasted good. Nice '50s retro decor, great service and food. Locals recommended the shrimp po' boys and they were very good. Had an onion blossom (huge!) with honey mustard sauce which had a touch of cajun flavor. I found this place through family while on Christmas holiday. It is exactly what I expected...a very local-looking, no nonsense eatery that serves what the locals really want...inexpensive, great-tasting local fare. I stayed with family in the bigger city of Lafayette to the north, but took the trek south to New Iberia to eat a really good oyster po-boy. I was NOT unsatisfied. Driving into the parking lot told me a lot. It was packed. When we got inside, there were a few open tables, though they were all dirty and had yet to be cleaned off. For this, I started with 4 stars. The waitress that came to our table of 7 was very nice and quick to take our order. We all ordered different items. I had the oyster po-boy. My partner had the catfish po-boy, etc. The food came out after a short wait. All of us were pleased by the amount and quality of our lunch. After spending about an hour there, we left, satiated and sleepy and ready to take the tour of the Tobasco factory on Avery Island. read more
