When I first had occasion to go to Dugan's about three years ago, I was a bit perplexed at how long it seemed to take to be addressed and helped so I understand some of the other reviews I have read. But I want to look at this situation for a minute. Here was a local businessman and what a novelty it is to see THAT thrive in any economy, who gave his full undivided attention to his immediate customer's needs. I found it comforting. I suspected he wouldn't rush me through my inquiries and it afforded me an opportunity to look and listen and determine if this was a fair person. I said earlier he took care of his immediate customer's needs. Some times I didn't see a customer and would still wait for a few, but I came to realize he was wrapping up loose ends. Being detail oriented in the card business is essential. Pat and his small but well-informed staff have never let me down. We so often want that hometown feeling and touch of personal care, well, it doesn't get better than Dugan's. Being treated like family means you might have to share time, but hey, you can look around and cultivate your hobby while you consider how you can honor a situation that strives to respect every single customer and not rush them along like a simple, useless transaction. read more

I was in town today and decided to check for sports card shops. I inherited a collection of about 30,000 cards a few years back and although it sounds impressive, I'd say out of the 30,000 cards, only about 3,000 have value and the average value is about $2, so nobody is quitting their day job. In Seattle, we got a place called DJ's, and those guys are great, friendly, helpful and an impressive selection of anything you would want or need related to the trading card hobby. Never having been here before I read the reviews and people talked about rude and cold behavior, but the overall score of 3.5 was enough for me to pop in. The card selection here was really small, had this been the first card store I ever visited, I doubt I would have visited another. That said, I was the only person in the section and a couple people looked at me, even walked by me multiple times, but no one ever spoke, welcomed me in or offered to explain the layout. After browsing for about 10 minutes, I found some interesting cards in a consignment area My experience with consignment is it's items owned by a private seller, but sold by the business for a commission. When I asked about prices since nothing was marked, I was told the items are for auction and I needed to register to bid. 1) The guy had an attitude when I asked for help despite him doing nothing but twiddling him thumbs. 2) Is it consignment or auction. 3) You are killing your business, those items are not moving, which means they are taking up real estate. Your goal with any item, especially used is to sell it as fast as possible. Can you imagine cars sitting on a car lot for 30 days, then selling to the highest bid. You may have been able to sell that car In a couple days instead of clogging your lot for a month. In addition, I asked some other questions and people working there were clueless. I'm sorry, if you work in a card shop or card counter, you need to be an expert. If I ask if you have a specific team or player, you shouldn't have to ask anyone else. Even if you are unsure, you should at a minimum be able to say, check this area, but then again, from what I saw, the store had no organization. I think 3.5 stars is generous, I have no reason to return here. The cards are probably about 25% maybe even 20% of the store, so they have other hobby items, but if you are headed here from sport related memorabilia, I'd say keep driving. read more

I walked In and nobody talked to me for about 30 minutes, They got decent staff when fully booked but hardly anyone in there throughout the day. Alot of over priced stuff but there is also some pretty good exceptions. Definitely is more of a RC Car shop in my eyes but has decent selection of cards. Definitely not the best in the Tumwater, Olympia area but not bad. read more

I have visited this store multiple times ready to spend money and no help at all! When I have been helped on the rare occasion owner was rude. Forget this place...could be a good thing with the right owner. read more

I have tried to cash in the gift card for over 2 weeks buyer beware the gift cards at this shop are no good they are a waste of money! I love Dugan's. I play Magic the Gathering, and Dugan's has a great space to hang out, play with really cool people, and have a very chill time. The staff are really knowledgable and friendly. They do sanctioned tournaments and pre-release events too. If you play MtG you should really check them out. They have a ton of sports stuff too, but I'm not really in to that, so I can't comment. read more

My grandfather recently moved to the Olympia area and was so excited to bring in some of his sports memorabilia for a possible sale. The owner ignored us while he stared at a computer screen. He was a complete jerk, unfriendly and told us one of the items wasn't even worth $10 even though we had looked it up on several websites where it was priced at $100. He is a crook and has 0 respect for the people walking in his store. I love supporting local businesses, but I hope his goes bankrupt. No one deserves to be treated like that. read more

Im not going there ever agian the Employees just sat there staring at computer screens the whole time and the store it self was insanely unprofessional there were boxes everywhere and very messy over all; also they didn't care about the customer when I walked in no one said "can I help you with something" or even a simple "welcome" absolutely disgusting! read more

I live in CANADA and buy my cases from Dugans. Jesse is a friendly, knowledgeable guy, and it's always a blast dealing with him and his staff. I bought 5 cases of bowman sterling from Dugans over the last month, and hit 4 Bryce Harper gold autos AND a black. Super helpful and knowledgable. I only shop here. I recommend you do the same. I used to go to this card shop as a kid when it was located in the Southgate shopping center (the Tumwater address). I enjoyed hanging out in there, browsing through the cards, buying mysterious "grab bags" and placing bids in the bi-weekly consignment case. The previous owner was Sue Dugan and I THINK it's her son (or maybe her grandson?) that runs it now. The service was a bit better when Sue ran the show. I would go there and chat with her for an hour or two about cards, players, games, whatever. She was a very pleasant person to deal with and I miss her there. I once detailed her little blue Mazda Miata in exchange for a Griffey/McGwire/Sosa jersey card (BBV $150 at the time). I'm not as active in the hobby as I was, but the man that runs it now seems ok, even if it's not quite the same as it once was. You gotta support the small local businesses and I'd hate to see this one disappear one day, so I plan to go back and see what's in the ole consignment case. Hopefully they still have the grab bags! They are random cards of each sport (including stars, rookies, inserts) that they place in paper lunch sacks and sell them as $1 $5 $10 or $20 grab bags. They may not have anything of Smithsonian quality in them, but still fun to go through and it has a way of bringing back fond childhood memories! Go Dugan's!! read more
