There's lots to admire from a place that we really should have been to a number of times already. To tell you the truth, I've never quite gelled with Southbank. Apart from the occasional lovely meal, I've always thought the area promised more than it delivered. Not anymore. Fatto is the first restaurant you encounter on the right as you cross the bridge from the city. It's a place you absolutely need to go to. We were lucky enough to try the tasting menu today. It's an incredibly generous range of food. The dishes were absolutely delicious. Even the bread we started with was superb, both seeded and plain. Beautifully fresh and wholesome, these were the best starter breads I have had for quite some time. The first dishes to come out were the antipasti - kingfish tartare, prosciutto and wagyu carpaccio. We thought these were just excellent. The kingfish was our favourite but we also admired the carpaccio very much not just for the lovely taste but that it looked a bit like a Jackson Pollock work (I'm a big Pollock fan). Next we're into the small dishes and these were beautiful too. We adored the spaghettini with spanner crab, lemon and chilli, it was just delicious. Delicate and carefully flavoured, it is a truly wonderful dish. The salad was lovely too. Rocket, Parmesan and pink grapefruit. It's a terrific and refreshing little salad. We had the medium dishes to finish and we loved these too. The sirloin was cooked wonderfully and was very tasty. I actually got a little anxious finishing it knowing there was no more to come. I was enjoying it that much. The chips with house seasoning and aoli were also very pleasant to finish with. I forgot to mention our drinks. We'd started with an extremely well made Aperol spritz. I could offer no greater praise than it seemed as good as ones I've had overseas. It was a cracker. Our wine to accompany the meal was a Pizzini Sangiovese Shiraz. Great winery. Lovely wine. Our two servers were lovely today. Not just for us either. Watching them serve others in the room you could tell they enjoyed their work and were very good at their craft. To conclude, I'll never doubt Southbank again. This is a very good restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and wine here. We were very surprised at the quality and range. It would be incredibly easy to eat here in conjunction with a trip to nearby galleries and shows and we shall definitely do so in future. A great experience. Then two plates got brought to our spot at the bar and we got excited for a minute thinking they were ours but it turned out the salsiccia (meatballs) and ricotta and greens stuffed ravioli were for the couple sitting up from us. I'm not a big fan of oysters, but these were delicious. The 1/2 duck in master stock with Asian slaw salad and steamed jasmine rice was interesting, the master stock in which the duck was cooked in was a stroke of genius. Pouring its oily goodness over the rice and duck gave the taste that much more oomph for my taste buds... or was that more quack? On the side we got steamed green beans with bulgarian fetta and french fries for good measure. I never really order oysters and duck when I'm at a restaurant, in fact, this is the first time I conjured up this combo, where in the past, I haven't been big on these rather popular dishes... and you know what? I loved it. With a good-humoured and pleasant waitress serving us, The Strand comes highly recommended, even though it might be a tad too expensive for what you get.

As a group of four, we ordered the following: 1. Stir fry green beans with minced pork - the best I've ever had. Crunchy well flavoured beans with delicious mince pork. 2. I visited Luyang on Wednesday and returned only three days later. Yes it is that good. While it may not be up to the Shanghai village or Hu Tong standards, the dumplings here are still good and are very cheap. I came here with my partner and we ordered a serving of the fried pork dumplings ($8 for 15 dumplings) and the steamed dumpling combination (around $12), which included a selection of different types of dumplings. The service is charming and the girls who wait on the tables are so friendly and efficient that you just have to sit back and relax. Luyang may not be luxurious or trendy but there is free tea on your tables, and some sweet dumplings are heading your way, so sit back and relax.

We had a party of 9 and had a range of dishes. Every single dish was excellent. In order they were sweet and sour pork ribs, kong pao chicken, kong pao prawns, ma po tofu with beef mince, dry stir fried beans, fish flavoured eggplant and sweet and sour cabbage. Every single dish was fantastic. I loved them all and so did the whole table. If I had to pick a favourite it'd be a curious one. The cabbage was utterly magnificent. Single dishes then delivered with significant intervals. No rice either. It made for a chequered and slightly awkward start. It was rectified in time but it shouldn't have happened at a restaurant of this quality. On the upside again, the cost of the meal was very modest at $33 a head. Exceptional value actually. Came with a small small container of soy sauce (probably the equivalent of a packet and a half for us in the states) which was a little amount considering you do get a large amount of dumplings (10 or 12). Decent taste. Tried the Kung Pao chicken and have definitely tasted better. I was visiting here so I can't say I'll return as I won't be back there likely, but with so many other places to choose from, I wouldn't return here if I were.
