It was neat and clean, the reviews were positive, the owner was nice and the condiment selection the best ever. BUT, then we saw the crock pots and found out he didn't have sweet tea. Seriously, what BBQ joint doesn't have sweet tea? Not sure where the meat comes from but nothing is prepared fresh there or chopped on site. Only one person needed to dole out what is in the crock pots and from Tupperware tubs. I threw away half my chopped beef sandwich, hubby's link sandwich was sub-par, sliced as thin as possible and neither one of us liked either sauce offered or the cole slaw. Beans were ok. read more

I've lived in Vernon for 9 hrs having moved in from Nashville Tn. You get pretty spoiled having toured the US and having eat at all the best spots during those years, but I've got to say I wished I'd tried Duncan's years ago. The Food was absolutely Great! Perfect portions, fair price and wonderful service! Saw a realtor sign out front, but after eating there I'm sure the reason for the sale has nothing to do with the food! Duncan's is a solid restaurant in Vernon. Their bbq sandwiches are good. The cobbler is good. But what gets me every time is the gumbo. I was skeptical at first because my family is from Louisiana so I wasn't sure about trying a gumbo this far away from Louisiana but I get it every time I'm there. It is delicious and it would definitely be a successful gumbo in Louisiana. Only down side is this place is cash only, no cards. Otherwise I definitely recommend it. read more

Duncan's is the real deal. At first the owners didn't know what to think of us but we talked a little small town football and then they warmed up to us. I got the ribs and the pulled pork with a side of beans and gumbo. My husband had the pork and the sliced beef with beans and cole slaw. We both agreed that the ribs were the winner of both plates. The beef was a bit dry and the pork was good but lacked a little flavor. After some more friendly chatting Greg and Catherine gave us a cobbler since we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. You could tell that it was home made but I missed the ice cream. There isn't much room inside and while we were there several local people came in and got food to go. The place has been there since 1949 and I like to support who are invested in their businesses and communities. I am very glad that we stopped in. read more

Very solid bbq place right off the highway. very cheap prices too. we ordered the hot link, beef and rub sandwiches. $4 a pop. the beef was our favourite, having a lot of flavour like jerry and great texture. the bbq sauce was also topnotch and they were all on a toasted bun. the service was exceptionally good. First impression was when we arrive we know the restaurant was fairly small but I read the reviews and decided to stop anyways. The people are very nice and the pork sandwiches were good but not great. However, the potato salad was definitely delicious and the PEACH COBBLER might be the best thing you've never had. read more

This is a gem of a place--delicious food, really nice owner and staff. It's a small place--the kitchen is incredibly clean. "We might not be the biggest or the busiest, but we're the cleanest." It's cash/check only but the drive-up ATM at Herring Bank is only a couple of blocks away. The pinto beans are delicious, especially. Homemade cobblers: blackberry, blueberry and peach today. They have the best hot links I have ever had hands down, and the owners are the nicest people in the world. Got there 20 minutes before closing for the afternoon and they couldn't have been more friendly. 1/2 lb of meats (I chose the sliced briskets and a couple of ribs), 2 sides and a drink for under $8. They offered two types of BBQ sauce (original & sweet) and asked me afterwards which one I preferred (sweet). Greg the owner didn't mind talking about Bar B Que and shared how they prepared their meats which is always a great conversation. We went here for lunch because of the good reviews and we were very disappointed.. I got the chopped pork sandwich and it had no flavor other then the bbq sauce.. My husband had the 2 meat combo with ribs and sliced brisket and the ribs were boiled and neither meat had any taste.. We both got some of the homemade cobbler.. He got the pineapple and I got the blueberry and they were both good.. It is a very clean restaurant and the service was good but I don't like to see my bbq coming out of a Tupperware container then piped in the microwave. read more

Salt is their primary ingredient. I bought ribs, beans and potato salad. I threw out the sauce and the beans. Too much salt! Half the ribs were fat. Yes, I threw that out, too! My husband asked me how I could determine it was one and done, if I threw everything in the trash? Very nice people. He gave me a taste of his gumbo and I recoiled from that, as well.
