The service is stellar. We saw good reviews and we were missing Texas barbecue so thought timing-wise, it seemed like the perfect place to stop on our way out of Texas. The interior is cute, stereotypical Texan. Military gear, game trophies on the walls, etc. Sadly the food did not stack up. What they called chopped brisket was really just shredded meat with zero flavor. In Texas, we're all about the dry rub and not needing sauce. The meat was so dry, if you didn't add sauce your tongue might turn into sandpaper. The sausage just tasted like someone heated up a plain ole Eckrich sausage. It was fine just nothing special. And the baked potato only had meat and a bare sprinkling of cheese. No butter. No salt and pepper. VERY bare bones. It was all fine, I just expect a lot more from Texas barbecue.

Wanted BBQ while driving from Amarillo's to Tyler and Iowa Park has a little roadside BBQ joint that lured us in. There isn't much to look at on the outside but the inside is full of memorablia and old pictures. They were very busy on a Sunday afternoon but it was still fairly quick. I ordered the one meat plate with ribs and the hubs had the two meat plate. The only reason for the 1 star deduction is my brisket was considerably less than my hubs 1 meat brisket. He got 6 slices I got 3. He also got chopped brisket and had a considerable amount of that as well. The brisket was good and flavorful but slightly harder to cut. The ribs were absolutely mouth watering and fall off the bone. WOULD DEFINITELY eat here again!!! Wait staff was also accommodating and prompt.

The vibe is perfect. Loved the decor and the smiling faces. Our waitress was happy, sweet and efficient. The owner came by to greet us as well. The bartender came by with drinks and was friendly too! Now for the best part....the food was delicious. My personal favorite is the brisket and the baked potato. In our group of seven we had pulled pork, sausage, beans and rice, a classic potato, fried okra, chicken, cheddar jalapeño sausage, a sampler platter, crab jalapeño appetizer, gator balls and a roadkill sandwich. Everything was great! Happy to have had some good bbq! Thank you Rafter J's.

Stopped at this restaurant while on a trip from Dallas to Santa Fe. Barbecue and Cajun seemed like an interesting combination so I stopped by. The restaurant itself has a small town vibe to it. Very cozy and sports oriented. The service was immediate and very friendly. I don't know if I've ever been served as quickly or taken care of. I ordered the one meat plate with brisket as the main, and gumbo and potato salad as the sides with toast. Potato salad is kitchen made but nothing special. The gumbo however is very authentic and had a nice kick to it. The brisket had very good bark and fat too it, and paired well with the smoky sweet bbq sauce they had. Had apple cobbler with ice cream for desert. Delightful. My only suggestion is I wish they had more Cajun options, because I think the gumbo was the all star of the meal.

Really good bbq! My husband and I had a sampler platter, and it was seriously good. I don't usually like ribs, but these were fall-off-the-bone good. We ate our fill and brought the rest home with us. We'll be back again! We also had a great waitress~ she was attentive without being annoying.

I honestly have no recollection of eating at this restaurant I think years ago. But here we go. This time around I came with a group of ladies who have never been here at this location before I will try this barbecue in town. We got it seated pretty quickly and had a party of seven. The area and decorations are interesting. The animals and various shirts/uniform tops hanging from the ceiling and on the walls. We ordered fairly quickly, not knowing how long it would take to get the food. I got a three meat plate with turkey, sliced brisket, sausage, gumbo and loaded potato. With sweet tea. The sweet tea was good not too sweet. My turkey was nice sausage OK, my brisket was dry. Had hardly no flavor and needed sauce to be eaten. My baked potato head fatty bacon in it which I wasn't a fan of but the gumbo was nice spicy and good. Definitely recommend you try it. My friend ordered a two meat plate with ribs, sausage, beans, and potato salad. You definitely get good portion of this restaurant. She said the beans could use salt. Everybody agreed at the table that the ribs had absolutely no flavor. Definitely a wasted meat to purchase here. Save your money and it cost an over charge just to have them. Definitely not worth your money. We came because we saw a commercial/video review made by a young African-American young man where the ribs fell off the bone, and he said the food was absolutely great. This video will definitely get more people through the door of different races, and from different areas but the ribs are not good and don't fall off the bone like the video. I ordered a kids meal to go and they over fried it. One of the ladies asked our table. What did we think after we had ate lunch about the meal, and then began to get upset because we said that the ribs had no flavor. At this point, the waitress stop helping us for the most part. She was an earshot of our table, but Didn't really assistance any longer, no refills after giving us to go boxes and we were waiting for the check. I had to get another young lady working in a different section to assist us sense. Our waitressing to have been finished assisting us. This restaurant does not have many clients with melanin so you may want to bring a buddy with you if that is one of those things that make you feel awkward or uncomfortable. The bathrooms are clean and my bill with two tacos and my three meat plate was about $60. I did order a peach cobbler but they ran out and only had cherry cobbler. It was OK but had lots of harder crust instead of filling. All in all I would say, give it a try especially if you have a group of people who you can pick off each other plate and try new things. It definitely wasn't a place that I could say had a great barbecue. The sausage will do, the gumbo was great, thanks for military discount with a valid ID and you can get 10% off. The brisket was dry , required sauce, and the ribs just don't order them, or try it for yourself. This is not a bad option to try with.

    Dry sliced brisket and sides.

The food is consistent and not bad. Not that great either. Staff is usually friendly but occasionally one will be less so.
