This was our first visit to this restaurant. It is a large metal barn-type building with a country themed interior. Through the main entrance is a covered outside dining area, suitable for a large group of diners. A second door goes in to the main restaurant. The waitress welcomed us to choose a table and took our drink order. Beer is available here, but we had iced tea. The tables and chairs were clean but some of the bench seats were in need of repair. The restaurant was a little dark but had nice background C&W music. I ordered a shredded beef barbecue wrap. My spouse ordered a Turkey sandwich. My wrap was very good. My only suggestion would be to warm the tortilla instead of serving it cold. My spouse stated that the Turkey was very tender and the sandwich was great. We appreciated regular tea fill-ups on this hot day. The staff were dressed very casually which was okay but perhaps jeans and a shirt or Logo T-shirt would have been more appropriate. The parking outside was great. Plenty of room for trucks and RV's. Overall, a good place to eat. The restaurant needs a little upgrading. We will eat there again. read more

I was on my way to Lubbock and decided to stop here to get chopped beef and sausage sandwich with a side of fries and it took 30 minutes to get it. The waitress was really nice and you could tell that they were short handed in the back. I will give another try some time next year. read more

I wouldn't waste your time coming here... people must be doing drugs, walked in and absolutely no one in sight not even a peep... lots of dirty tables not cleaned. Who ever must be working shouldn't be working there anymore. read more

The Big Empty is the best BBQ place in Seymour, TX. They took over another restaurant which was OK and really made it great. The building is remodeled and fixed up nicely. It has a rustic Texas feel and excellent BBQ. I have been here before and will certainly go again when in the area. Seymour is a small town, and there's not a lot of choices. But if you are anywhere in the area and are hungry The Big Empty is a no brainer. You certainly won't leave empty! There is a covered and screened porch dining area as well as indoor dining. Both are pleasant, and it's obvious it's a hit with the locals. The service is friendly and efficient. I had the BBQ turkey sandwich and it was both tender and tasty. The BBQ sauce was great, not overly spicy. Be sure to taste their famous BBQ beans. The salad bar is not very extensive, but who goes to a BBQ place for salad? Just sayin'! You can get the salad with some meat or chicken on it and it would be more of a meal. The restrooms were clean. The owners are still expanding and anticipate fixing the place up even more. They even plan to include a dog walk park for those traveling with pets. It's worth the short drive off the main highway to stop here. I look forward to returning. read more

Ordered a small sandwich with Mac and cheese and a fried pickles Appetizer. The sandwich was good, wish they gave a little more sauce with it. I ordered to go and the cup was only like half full. The mac and cheese wasn't really that great. And the fried pickles were terrible. It was like they just grabbed a handful from the jar tossed them in catfish breading and fried them. They were super soggy and the breading didn't even stick. However, the prices were fair and their $7 small sandwich is a really good value for the size. read more

Do not stop in if you're in a hurry! We waited an hour after we ordered to get our brisket and sausage! After 45 minutes we asked the waitress when we would get our food- she said well another table had been waiting an hour- not a helpful response. She said they had been slammed- umm it's BBQ it's already cooked and they had 2 large tables of 10 people that were served before we ordered. Firstly the decor and feel is rustic. I think that fits the areas feeling very well. A beautiful smile and excellent service is what I'd describe what I got! Very welcoming and friendly. Now the sweet tea I got was a tad sweet but I'm more of a lesser sweat and more tea kind of guy so no fault there! My appetizer... fried pickles...I didn't enjoy them.. to salty for me and no pickle just dried out bites so I'll pass on that one! My main course was delicious! The turkey tender and flavorful!! I always order the sliced turkey breast because it's delicious! The brisket had a good amount of fatty bites and was flavorful! Is it the best I've had... no but it's definitely worth the try! Bbq sauce is a bit sweet but compliments the food well. The potato salad was very good and the Mac and cheese a tad dry but very nice flavors! Friendly and welcoming as soon as I stepped in. Great atmosphere for a nice lunchtime family bbq place. Not empty but not overly crowded. Servers were very attentive and efficient with everything coming out hot and freshly made. We'll definitely come back. Brisket was tender juicy and delicious. We stopped in to try the BBQ and pleased with the food. My wife ordered the sliced brisket sandwich and said it was good. I had the double meat plate (ribs and turkey), creamed corn and red beans. The ribs and turkey were excellent. The turkey was some off the best I have eaten. The sides were fair. The beans need bacon, ham or brisket in them. Ordered the three meat special for lunch. They missed the mark with the brisket. Room temperature tough and little smoke flavor. Jalapeño sausage had a good taste but was dry. And finally the pork ribs no smoke flavor but the dry rub was good and the ribs were lean. They didn't need any sauce good just the way they are served. read more

Probably one of the best places I've ever gone to get like a burger or sausage. My family loves it and we eat it often because it's so close to our house. I only gave it a four star rating because sometimes I find hairs in my food or I chomp down on something tiny. Almost like a piece of metal or possibly a rock. But I'm sure the employees don't mean for that to happen. The high spirits of The Big Empty is definitely when live music comes in. I can hear it from my backyard, we're so close!! Amazing! Stopped in on the way home from Lubbock with a group and this place was legit! We had a group of 16, kids included and everything we had from salad bar to dessert had practically licking the bowls. The salad bar was fresh with nice selection of vegetables and even a few pasta salads were a nice surprise. BBQ sandwich was melt in your mouth good. The pecan cobbler, banana pudding and peach cobbler highly recommended. The service was friendly and quick even for our big group. We just made this a go to place to stop every time! read more

Big Empty Beer and BBQ is one of the best road trip finds I've been lucky enough to stumble on. We had a seat on the screened in patio, perfect breeze but protected from the summer heat. The food was fantastic!!! Brisket was tender, ribs perfectly seasoned and the jalapeno sausage was my favorite!. The food alone deserves a great review. But the service and consideration was also top notch. We left a jacket behind after we ate and didn't realize it until we were many miles away. Got their 3 meat plate with a side salad and green beans. Sliced brisket was dry (other places have a similar challenge) but had good flavor. Smoked sausage was on point. I ordered bacon wrapped jalapenos. They were about 1 1/2" long. Uoon trying one, I found it was so salty that i could not eat it. Had a co-worker try one just to make sure. She agreed and I sent them back. When I received the bill, the waiter said he gave me a discount! So, I paid. $7.00 for 2 tiny poppers and a drink. Never going back again. Had good reviews on the actual food, but the wait staff was terribly slow. Empty tables were all dirty and needed clearing. It took 15 minutes for drink orders and 45 minutes to get food. Two groups came in 20 minutes after us and their food was delivered before ours. Made no sense. It's BBQ - should be served within 15 minutes of ordering. Everything is ALL made! Waitress was not that sympathetic at all. If you are traveling to and from Lubbock - don't waste valuable road time by stopping here. read more

Was thrown off upon entering as we were unsure whether or not to seat ourselves (we did) and the entirety of the diners inside turned to watch us. Service was slow for an average Sunday lunch but service was VERY kind and apologetic. The brisket and turkey both were delicious (but not smoked) aand the creamed corn & green beans hot and fresh. We were hungry in the middle of nowhere and I found this place on Yelp. It was packed. The only negative thing I have to say is that we didn't know if we should wait to be seated or seat ourselves.
