This place used to have great variety when it came to the Hot Smoke Saturday and the Dundor dish. Lately it seems like they have gotten lazy. The hot smoke Saturday has been the same thing for over a month! The dundor dish is also uninspired and repetitive. The sandwiches were chock full of meat with a sharp provolone cheese and some kind of spicy green peppers. The beef broth dip was dark and superb! The sandwich had an excellent balance of tastes (complexity) and was extremely satisfying! A must go to place for a quick bite or to buy dinner to prepare or even quickly heat up at home! Not sure what happened to this place when they first opened up this place was great. Not sure if they got rid of the cook but ate here several times the last couple times the food really went downhill for the price you pay for a burger and fries it should be perfect the burger I had the other daywas so raw took one bite of it and threw it away and the french fries were so soggy from the boxes they use and it's not like we're an hour away. We ate the food right away when we got it back to the dealership that we work at, hopefully they change things up and go back to the way it was when they first opened not sure if I will ever try this place again read more

I was looking for lunch while passing through Reading and found this place on Yelp. This is the first review I have ever posted and I have been using Yelp for years! I was motivated to post this review because I am so impressed with this place. I learned they have a rotating menu so I was at first disappointed I couldn't get the beef sandwich I saw here on Yelp. However, the current menu had a Crispy Chicken Sandwich I "settled on" instead. To say this was the single most amazing chicken sandwich I have EVER had in my life would be an understatement!! Perfectly crispy and juicy chicken on a nice roll w great pickles and a garlic aïoli, I love finding these small places along the way. I ended up having a fantastic chat with the the head butcher while I waited. He was very engaging and knowledgeable after attending culinary school. We were looking for an interesting breakfast and Dundore & Heister offered that, so we gave them a try. *Excellent* They served us a breakfast sandwich filled with the most unctuous and tasty eggs I've eaten, bacon and cheese. I'm a bacon fan, but I have to say that the bacon was a distraction! After breakfast, we picked up a variety of take-out food and meats, all of which we excellent. The one downside -- which was not clear to us before we went there -- is that they have no indoor seating and only two small tables outdoors. Better plan on eating in your car. (We liked it enough that the next time we're in Reading at breakfast time, we'll do just that.) read more

I have driven past this butcher shop+ a hundred times and finally stopped in. So glad I did. The prices for their meats are what you would expect for a private butcher, more than a grocery store but the quality is well worth it! I was hungry so I went with the idea of getting one of their burgers. I also decided after looking at the menu that I was just going with the idea of "Go big or go home!" I got the D&H Smash Royale. OMG! This is one of the most delicious, burgers of gluttony I have ever eaten! Freshly ground beef, pastrami and ham, a local sesame bun, possibly house made pickles, bacon jam and a house sauce (hope Indid it justice!). Oh, and it is two, huge smash burgers on it, not some flat flavorless patty you might find elsewhere. It is big! It is worth the price, it could legitimately be two sandwiches (or three) in the same bun! I would have taken a pic but I didn't think about it until devouring it. Great place to have in the commuinty. Local fresh meats and cheese. They have deli meats as well and even make sandwiches. They have a few pre made sides as in roasted beets, carrots, chicken salad etc. They make their own bone broth and even have it on tap! Also carry Kombucha and other fermented foods which I love. Based on the butchers recommendation, I purchased flank steak and their house made bone broth. I was pleasantly surprised by their selection and quality. Very expensive and unusual cuts of meat other than rib eye or sirloin. The Denver steaks that they recommended were not only expensive but were a tough cut of meat. Go to Sam's or Costco for great meats at a reasonable price. Costco and Sam's ribeyes are better than most restaurants offer. read more
